Sheets and Eloy are pretty much sharing the same glove. They are both awful. Sheets lack of range might actually make him worse. As for return, again the Twins are about to lose Cruz for nothing. It won't take much.
-
But is Cruz's bat or Engel's glove in the OF going to generate a better return for the Sox?

The whole coming in mid-season thing really seemed to be the problem with him. Once he got back to normal, so did his performance.
-
It isn't about spending resources on a DH. By bringing Cruz in you actually upgrade two positions. You get a better DH AND you get a better RF by sliding Andrew Vaughn over there. You are also not giving up much to get the guy.
-
It is two different and distinct thoughts. #1, I think he is struggling mentally, and having a tough time with something going on between him and the organization. #2, If someone has a problem with the way something is, they don't need to just accept it because that is the way it has been. They can actually do something about it and fight for a change.

This point of view is just unreal. With generations of history showing that if people don't like society or situations, they don't have to take it like a B, and that they can actually do something to try and do better. Civil, Gay, and Womens rights didn't "translate to the real world" generations ago, and people fixed that. Obviously this isn't on that level, but there is no reason to just roll over and play dead.

100% accurate.

A move like this isn't going to stop you from getting bullpen help, or anything else.

Typically the reason you wouldn't claim a guy is if you don't want to pay his original contract, but in a case like this, I can't imagine he is making enough that it would have mattered. I get the feeling by not claiming him, the Sox are happier with what they have.

Correct, which means they did not.

Probably, yes. They will just press release one day that all 20 guys are signed. -
Honestly, I don't think this is that crazy. #1 the Sox do seem to be letting Eloy play LF for some dumb reason. They had previously said he would be mostly a DH, but maybe that has changed? #2, He will be cheap to acquire, especially if the team pays his $$$ #3, Nelson Cruz is a really, really good hitter, no matter what you think of how he got to be that way #4, the Sox seem to really believe in having an actual DH, and seem to have too many DHs at many points in recent years. #5, The Twins don't care about who they trade him too, as he will be a FA in three months. They care about return. They obviously aren't going to offer QO, so something is better than nothing. #6, Eloy in LF, Vaughn in RF, and Cruz at DH is a defensive nightmare, but probably the best offensive line up in baseball. Combine that with our starting pitching, and that is tough to beat four times in the post season. #7, by trading for Cruz, you prevent him from going to a team you will face in October, and we all know what Cruz does to us.

SOMETHING in the organization set Yermin off. Obviously he doesn't specify what it was exactly, but it is there in his statement. It could be Tony, or it could be upper management telling him to work on something. Whatever it is he took is EXTREMELY personally. I just think in 2021, reading that statement, the guy is obviously in pain. I mean this shouldn't be General Patton in GI hospital slapping a troop suffering from what was then known as "shell shock" and was culturally thought of as just not being tough enough to handle war. Today we actually understand Post Traumatic Stress Disorder will mess up even the toughest of troops. Obviously none of us know what is going on in Yermin's head, but whatever it is, is real enough for him to be screaming for help. Just because YOU don't see it, doesn't mean that it isn't real to him. Again hopefully whatever the kid is going through gets fixed. Even if he doesn't go back to baseball, hopefully he gets fixed whatever is ailing him. He's got a whole life left to live.
