  1. Slayer has been tearing it up in the College World Series fyi. He's got a 14 game hitting streak going.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 04:30 PM) This is where you have to have good relations with a scout of an organization. It happened to be where we played there was an area scout who worked for the Braves (former Giants player) and because of it there were a few guys drafted into the Braves organization (as well as a few undrafted signings). So the opportunity is obviously greater in an area where there is significant major league talent (as it means you'll get familiar with some of the scouts who you'll have brief conversations with). In our case, the scout happened to attend some non-high school games (more the summer league type of games where you'd be on a traveling team). But based on those relationships you may tell the scout or indicate to him your desire to play at the professional level and given a good rappore something might happen. Gageroo, I'm going to have to talk to you about this more in-depth pretty soon.
  3. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) The Elias A ranking is looking pretty good. I'm thinking if he keeps this up, he could be on the South Side for a couple more years. I can't say I'd argue with a middle-infield of Cabrera and Ramirez.
  4. The fact that Cabrera has gotten his average up to .276 is pretty awesome. .356 average in June.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) I think this team will still win the gold. American's say that every year about their basketball team. It's easy to go undefeated in qualifiers when you play Costa Rica and Barbados. Let me also just say I'm dissapointed in the selections of my Serbian team. Stojakovic left off again, as well as Rakocevic and Jaric. We'll have to rely on the bigs again with Milicic and Krstic down low.
  6. Wow, totally passed over Chappelle's Show. That would have been top 5 for me.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 08:06 AM) The referee in the Italy-Spain game yesterday was awful. I'm glad Spain won on PK's b/c there is no way Italy deserved to win that game. Spain is fun to watch in the middle and up front. Hopefully they start Fabregas next game for someone in the midfield (someone other than Silva or Senna that is, I thought they had good games) Fabregas is a playmaker, and substituting Senna for him hurts their defense, especially in the midfield. Silva did a lot of good things for Spain against Italy, but just they just couldn't convert it into a goal. Fabregas for Silva might not be bad, but apparently David Villa and David Silva have a really good relationship on the field, so thats why Aragones has gone with them. I think if anyone, he should switch out Iniesta for Cesc.
  8. Paul - Bryant - James - Bosh - Howard is probably the best team USA has put out sine 96, but still not comparable.
  9. Well if there are this many ties, we'll have a list of 75, not 40.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 07:34 PM) I rented it and didnt even wait it out. I turned it off within 15 minutes. The 1st 15 minutes were the worst of the movie.

With lowered expectations, Semi-Pro was actually pretty damn funny. The beginning was pretty slow, but there were definitely some laugh-out-loud moments.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 04:32 PM) I think it's a crucial series when it's Sox vs. Cubs and 2/3 of the city are mocking us right now. I truly believe we could and should have won game one; do you? I was on an airplane so I didn't get a chance to watch. Seems like our bullpen blew the game. It's nowhere near as crushing as losing a game in the World Series. It was simply a bad comparison.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 04:27 PM) Carlos Zambrano has an interesting take on the Sox/Cubs rivalry from Chicagosports.com: I don’t like to pitch in American League ballparks,” he said. “I feel bored. The games are too long. I like the National League. You’re competing and you do something for yourself. No one has to come in for me and do the DH part. I like to compete and play against the White Sox. It’s good. Every time I go to U.S. Cellular, or Comiskey, or whatever is the name of the ballpark, people starts screaming at you and saying all kinds of things, calling you all kind of things. “That’s good. They say something like ‘Homosexual.’ Sometimes I’m in the outfield and they say bad words. ‘You’re a homosexual.’ I say ‘I’m going to show him I’m (not) a homosexual on the mound.’ That’s kind of like a good feeling between the Cubs and the Sox.” And Cubs fans call our pitchers "kind, hard-working gentlemen" down the right field line, right?
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 04:28 PM) Why couldn't we play the first game of a crucial series like game four of the WS? Uh as a fan I'd have preferred that, because if we didn't stop playing baseball in the middle innings yesterday we'd have blown that game open, won the f***ing game, kept the Cubs in their Devil Rays' funk and might have won today also. Instead we're going to get swept. You are saying we couldn't have played that huge game with WS intensity?? Because it's NOT a World Series, and I have a hard time calling it a crucial series when we're playing a team in a different league.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) Wish we would have played Game One like the seventh game of the world series. I mean the fourth game of the WS. Please, don't ever compare playing the Cubs to playing in the World Series ever again...unless the Cubs are playing the Sox in the World Series.
  16. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) Guillen deserves a ton of blame for this loss. No way in hell Jose should have been out there to give up nine runs. As Flash mentioned, we've seen this with Guillen before. IMO it's his biggest weakness as a manager. So Jose gets shelled, Ozzie calls on the pen. What happens? HR by Edmonds against our best LHRP. s*** happens. Jose didn't have it.
  17. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) Kevin. But today was worse. Oh yeah, Kevin. My bad. I think the main difference is that Slowey was getting hit hard, where as the Cubs just 1st-and-3rd'ed Jose to death. The wind plays a huge factor into the HR's as well. Ramirez's ball barely cleared that stupid f***ing basket.
  18. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) Why didn't a coach trot out to give him a breather instead of just watch him get wrecked. I haven't seen where a pitcher just gets mowed over for all those runs, and a pitching coach doesnt come out. See: Slowey, Kevin
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) We'll lose 3-2. Bank it. You wanna place a wager on this prediction?
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Nice job, Jose. Don't worry, get 'em next time. It's just a loss, no big deal. Nothin' like prayin' that the D-Backs will take care of the Twins tonight because we couldn't get the job done on our own. And no matter what you believe, the Sox are STILL in 1st place and it STILL only counts as 1 loss. Ridiculous.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) Dude, it's cool. It's only 1 loss. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) 1. The Cubs might score 100 this series- maybe 100 this game. 2. We are too inconsistent to be the best team in baseball. No, we're not- we beat the teams we should and get demolished by the team's we shouldn't. 3. The Cubs are damn good. You're totally right. Each loss to the Cubs should count as 5 losses on our official record. We blow.
  22. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) Especially when u hav Turkey in a sweep. Gotta feel sorry for Croatia though. Hardly.
