QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) Thats interesting to me that you find The Last Crusade to be the worst. Most of my friends find Temple of Doom to be the worst. I dont know, I appreciate them all in a different way(keep in mind I havent seen the new one yet). Raiders of the Lost Ark is more of a drama, thr Temple of Doom is more light hearted and fun, and the Last Crusade actually gives a little background on Indy and what he is about and why. I like them all, i hope I like the new one. I know I'm in the minority on thinking Temple of Doom was better than the Last Crusade. I can't help it that so many people are misinformed. The truth is that the first film was just so much better than any of the others, that it's splitting hairs to spend much time ranking the also-rans. I dunno. In last Crusade, I disliked how tidy they made the River Phoenix prequel segment. In this one event, Indy manages to develope his fondness for bullwhips, his fear of snakes, get his trademark scarred chin, and obtain his iconic hat?? Almost as convenient as if a young Darth Vader was to be the one to fashion C-3PO and have R2D2 as a buddy. . . oh. wait. . . [And of course the commonality there is that Lucas is responsible for both of those too-tidy-to-be-believed backstories.] The 1000-year old Crusader guarding the Grail also bugged me – I don't really know why. Maybe it was the obnoxious "choose wisely" Pepsi ad tie-in that they did to death at the time of the movie release, but I just never liked that story element.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 12:02 PM) The Iraq uranium lies, and the repeated Sunni/Shia misunderstandings, are not gaffes in my view. One was a fabrication, the other is a lack of knowledge. That's not the stuff I am referring to here. And that distinction is where I have a hard time answering this poll. So much of what McCain says is not verbal gaffe – it’s just flat out wrong. Repeated unsubstantiated assertions that Iran is arming al-Qaeda (Shiaa? Sunni? What’s the difference?) are not verbal gaffes. Just a couple of weeks ago McCain berated Joe Klein when Klein suggested that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is the ultimate political authority in Iran and not Ahmadinejad. Of course, Klein was right and McCain was wrong. Not a gaffe, he had his facts wrong. Back in April I think, McCain had his facts wrong on whether it was Maliki or Sadr making the first call for a basra ceasefire. Before that he made repeated incorrect claims that Iranian operatives were training al-Qaeda fighters in Iran. When corrected, he tried to pass it off as a verbal gaffe, but that doesn’t hold water when the false claims are repeated multiple times. Steve Benen summed it up nicely a while back; “Reporters have already made up their minds — McCain knows his stuff, even when he doesn’t, and all reporting on the senator’s campaign will be refracted through that agreed upon prism.”
  3. QUOTE (mreye @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 08:02 AM) Nope, but we did play Stratomatic Baseball. Absolutely loved Strat-O-Matic Baseball as a kid growing up. Never played dice baseball.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 11:15 PM) yeah I saw indiana jones two weeks ago. Man it was bad. Really Really bad. I saw it yesterday and I'm cutting it some slack – probably more than I should – out of sentimentality. Certainly the last half-hour was way over the top, predictable, pretty bad etc., and it was more like than an Indy movie. But I thought the film looked like a Indy film should, moreso even than Last Crusade. last Crusade is still my least favorite of all of them, including the new one. I'll forgive most of the beyond-belief excesses of the action sequences with the exception of Everything else for me fell within the realm of suspendable disbelief for the sake of letting the story flow. I thought that they did handle the updating to the more contemporary setting well, maybe a tad heavy-handed with the McCarthy era red scare stuff and the nuclear age/Cold war imagery, but the whole franchise is modeled after pulp fiction/Saturday matinee storytelling as it is, so subtlety isn't to be expected. Not a great film, but not as bad as I figured it was going to be when I first heard they were doing a new film which I thought was a bad idea after so many years and after Last Crusde being as inferior as it was.
  5. QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 02:56 AM) Teddy? Kerry? Hil? Who are you getting at? Biden is who I figured.
  6. "Gotta Give Up the Toad Now" "That's your butt-hole!"
  7. Aww, cr@p. . . I left Odd Couple off my list.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) That would be foolish in my opinion. Lose 2 Senate seats? Nah. It should be a former or current Governor or someone else not currently in office (i.e., Wesley Clark, Edwards, Daschle). And it should be someone that will help him with a key swing state. A northeastern Senator would do little in that capacity. Out of people who probably want the gig, though, I think Biden is the best person for the job. You're right about it not delivering a state, but I'm really thinking about VP performance after the election and not performance as a running mate.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) What, have I ever blamed this on speculators? I've been the one blaming this on the planet running out of oil! Fµ*king planet. . .
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) Edwards brings absolutely nothing to the ticket anyway. I disagree. He'd be a good veep.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 09:50 AM) Dustin Hofman had a REALLY of color remark on Leno last night. It was a rip at McCain's age, but i dont feel comfortable repeating it. Leno had a good barb at Hillary in his monolog as well, saying that she and Bill were going to an Ikea Store because it would be the only chance she'd have of getting to put together her own cabinet. :lolhitting
  12. QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 12:37 PM) I have no idea, but I do know he was in Miami Vice as a Columbian drug lord. Of course, that's not an animated show, so it wasn't what you were thinking of Yeah, the Miami Vice appearance with Franl as Mario Fuente is a hoot. The animated cameo I was referring to was FZ as the Pope in a Powdered Toast Man (voiced by Gary Owens) cartoon on an episode of Ren and Stimpy. PTM: "Hold onto my buttocks!" FZ as the Pope: "Both of them?"
  13. QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 10:10 AM) Wasn't Dweezil also a voice in that show, or am I confused about that? Either way, I never really watched it, save for an episode or two Yep, Dweezil did the voice of Ajax, the oldest son (the one that didn't have two heads ) FZ music only featured in the first season. BUT . . . Todd Yvega, who co-wrote the original Duckman music, was the guy who transcribed Frank's Synclavier pieces for the Ensemble Modern for The Yellow Shark and Greggery Peccary & Other Persuasions. He also contributes vocals on Civilization – Phase III. So there's another Duckman-FZ connection. Now for the bonus question: What other animated offering did FZ actually voice a cameo character for, and what character was it?
  14. Somebody should have asked McCain who he voted for in each of those elections.
  15. Holey moley. I think I can see the hotel balcony where my second child was conceived. . . We had to make due with the the balcony, since child number one was asleep in the room. Yeah, that's right. I'm a SCREAMER! And let that be a lesson to all you highschoolers who have been told you can't get anybody pregnant if you're standing up.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 12:13 AM) I was going to make a no animation rule until I saw most of the lists. I'll allow it, but only prime time or late night. The Flintstones and the Jetsons started out in primetime, and the Flintstones at least has enough cultural significance to merit consideration. I also assume Duckman has been on every submitted list so far, for no other reason than it's brilliant use of Zappa music as the soundtrack. No?? cretins.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) The problem with that strategy though is that it can easily backfire. George W. Bush, on Rove's advice, spent the last couple days of the 2000 campaign in California, trying to give the impression that they were so confident they'd win that they could contest there. Had his brother not been colluding to steal the election in the governor of Florida, spending his time there instead of doing one or two more stops in Florida might well have cost him the election. It's a difficult balancing act. Edited for accuracy.
  18. Yep, studied, expert testimony concluding that the administration knowingly lied us into the war, and it will be barely a blip in the MSM or in the public perception. The BushCo imperial hubris is well into it's eighth year.
  19. QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 12:52 AM) I was at the game. Did Ramirez really not touch home plate? They replayed it about a dozen times. From one angle it looked like he brushed the plate with is lead foot, but from the other angle it looked like his toes missed by about an inch and the ump got the call right. That run sure would have saved us some wear and tear, that's for sure.
  20. :notworthy To the Big Boppers and the Bullpen! :headbang
  21. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) this is awesome news if for no other reaosn that I can wear my 2003 All-Star jersey again. Ha, same here, and mine is signed.
  22. QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) No, it doesn't actually matter (although I suppose that means I don't know if I did it correct or not, I did end up with 17 or 18, can't remember which). It was 17 or 18 though. Yeah, I get that it doesn't matter in the scheme of what was being demonstrated. But then someone in the thread asked who and still get the right cound, and I wondered how we would know if the right count (I got 16) was never revealed. And btw, seeing the tuttifruity cosmically empowered sorts of websites Chaos frequents, I think he's going to have to change his handle from ControlledChaos to MoonbeamCrystalpower or something like that.
  23. QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 4, 2008 -> 04:06 PM) Counted correctly. Did he say what the correct number was?
