  1. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) lol since when have they sided with the Native Americans. Realistically though, most of our ancestors went through Ellis Island or another place like that where we registered. Sure it was probably a lot easier then, but the people coming through now aren't becoming citizens. I have no problem with them become legal citizens. The poster specifies the North American continent, not the United States. Modern Mexicans are descended from indiginous North American lines, albeit with 500 years of outcrossing with invading Europeans. The point of that protest poster is that there were inhabitants of North America prior to 1492. Not that it mattered much to the Europeans who came, saw, and conquered.
  2. Damn. There goes a year+ in first place. . .
  3. QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) Full steel mesh lid across the entire top of the tank. I scoured the gravel, looked in the pump intake, looked at every square inch of the tank. There would be no place to go for Goldy if she got out of the tank anyway - it's on a countertop and there are no gaps or cracks or anything. We've looked all over the floor a bunch of times. There were fairly large chunks of scales on the gravel, which Jack Ruby was picking at in the morning. And I'm certain they were scales - they looked nothing like the fish food, which we put in the tank 12 hours previously. I have no other possible explanation for Goldy's complete disappearance. I hope you're right, because that would make more sense than Jack Ruby eating her, but I see no remains of any kind. Well, if you found some remains (scale chunks) then it makes more sense that she could have been killed and then pulled apart. Maybe some of her ended up in the filter and some in a betta's belly. It's an impossibility, however that the jaw morphology of a betta won't accomodate eating a goldfish. In the wild, B. splendens feeds on zooplankton mosquito larvae and the like - they are not piscivores.
  4. QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Sit down, kids - I have a NEW fish story to share with you!!!! So we went to the pet store to get a replacement for Fishy, the dead betta. So we get a nice reddish betta, and we're asking the TRAINEE at the pet store what fish, if any, can live with a betta........ ( can ya feel what's comin'? ) ......so the TRAINEE tells us that bettas get along with Goldfish pretty well..... ( how 'bout now? any guesses what's comin' yet??? ) so we buy Ruby ( the red betta ) and Goldy ( the goldfish ) and we put them in the same tank..... ( oh, I KNOW you can tell what's about to happen ) ....we go to sleep, there are two fish in the tank, swimming around, looking to all the world to be the BEST of friends.... ....we wake up.....there is ONE fish in the tank. Ruby has EATEN Goldy. So now we have to explain the damn FOOD CHAIN to my daughter!!! She took it pretty well, actually - we're moving (Jack) Ruby, the Goldfish Murderer, to the old small tank and getting her two goldfish for the bigger tank. And I'm putting the tanks RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER so that murderous betta can LOOK at the two goldfish every day and salivate!!!! Never trust a trainee, is the moral of this story..... No way, Critic. A betta CAN'T eat a goldfish unless it a fry. Not possible. It could harass and beat it to death, but not eat it. If you didn't have a lid on that bowl, then Goldy jumped (yes, she could have been spooked by Ruby and that made her jump). She may have flopped around and under a table or something, but I'm pretty sure you're gonna find a dried up ex goldfish lying on the floor in the next week or so.
  5. The Rally Crede That about explains it all, I think.
  6. As far as I know, the verdict is still out on circumcision and HIV transmission. A search of the literature reveals recognized experts saying circumcision lowers transmission rates and then there are other wqually respected individuals saying circumcision may actually increase transmission rates. I'm not up on the latest opinion but I know it's not been conclusively shown one way or the other.
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) Courtesy of Michelle Malkin... As she asks, why is this not on the cover of the NY Times? How about this one instead?
  8. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:35 AM) Dogs. Italian beef or Gyro? CHICAGO-style Italian beef chili dog or Chicago dog?
  9. I lucked into a pair of tix for the game but couldn't swing the trip in. My Dad and Bro got to use the tix on the condition that they both got thier asses in the gates early and at least one of them threw their ring my way. Talked to my Dad this evening and he lost the coin toss, so my ring and a spanking new 2006 Media Guide are heading my way.
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) abstain masterbate or soxtalk? Sorry, Tex. I never realized you only had one hand. Er, I mean SoxTalk. Night at the Opera of Day at the Races?
  11. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) inny flammable or inflammable catchonfireable ZigZag or Top?
  12. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) On a related note: Anybody listen to the new Suzi Quatro CD, "Back To The Drive"? By far her best since her best material of the early 70's. I haven't, but somebody else told me it was worth listening to. Does she get back to the three chord song structures and rough rocker vocals, or is it more along the lines of her later, more melodic (=boring) stuff?
  13. QUOTE(chisoxdavid @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) they will get better but right now Singleton makes DJ sound like Rooney Maybe that was the plan - to Make Ed sound good by comparing him to Chris. I agree it's going too take time for them to gel. But I also agree it was a tough broadcast to listen to today. I particularly get the feeling Chris doesn't like Ffarmer riding him about semantics issues – 'how could I have left you if you got to the boot first?', and 'is all memorabelia unique?' are two that come to mind from this afternoon. Also I think he rubbed Chris (an ordained minister, iirc) the wrong way when he asked him why some players point to the sky after hitting a homerun. I think Chris already wants to punch Ed out.
  14. QUOTE(chisoxdavid @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 04:24 PM) abstain Thome or Thomas For 2006, Thome The pancreas or the gall bladder?
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) Yup. From the WaPo piece I linked to in that last post: Wow. Yeah, better to bow out now rather than later in that case. I also see DeLay is going to push the TX legislature to try to get Ronnie Earle ousted as DA in the next legislative session. I Guess the best legal defense is to continue to be thoroughly offensive.
  16. And just WHO THE HELL does this unpatriotic ass think he is waving a Mexican flag??!!
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) You know, I would very much bet This has to play into the timing of this. Over the last 5 years or so, Tom Delay's defense fund has raised over $1.5 million...much of which has been spent. Tom Delay's campaign for 2006 has raised $1.2 million...all of which can now be moved to Delay's defense fund. I think it's also worth noting that in a masterful display of, well, something...in order to make sure that there's no Special Election and there's a Republican name on the ticket in October...instead of resigning, Delay is going to register himself as a citizen of Virginia, because if he moves out of the state the Republicans will be allowed to name a candidate to replace him on the ticket, while if he just dropped out...because the filing deadline has passed in Texas, the Republicans wouldn't be able to field anything but a write-in candidate. Can he legally just move the campaign money into a legal defense fund?!?
  18. Vanity Fair mercilessly (if rightly) skewers Scotty Mac. Long but a very good read. http://www.vanityfair.com/features/general/060404fege01 And that's just the first paragraph.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showforum=51 Ah, hiding right in front of my face. Just missed the window.
  20. Hey, is there no PTC contest here this yeear? I couldn't find one.
