You know, I've been thinking about the question, and I think I may have a plausible answer in Jimmy Carter. For trhose too young to remember, carter was crucified for admitting that he had "lusted in his heart" for women other than his wife in a 1976 Playboy interview. I can concede that his Presidency left a lot to be desired, but the guy had integrity and pretty much did nothing more than admit to what we all know everybody does. It's simple human nature to have sexual fantasies. In the interview he evenwent as far as saying that he didn't consider himslf any better than an actual adulturer because the sins were no different in the eyes of his God. It didn't save him from being publicly skewered however. So, basically, he admitted a wrongdoing (at least in the eyes to his God) that he didn't have to - and got a lot of grief for his trouble. Here's the Playboy synopsis:

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) I thought it was pretty clear that he was making a joke of the assassination remark.... You'd think so, wouldn't you?

QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) Did Pat O'Brien make any public apologies? I hope not, because no one need be sorry for providing that level of comedy. How about hypocritical televangelist Jimmy Swaggart's blubbering after the thing with, hmm, who was it? not Jessica Hahn, not Fawn Hall, what was her name? But he said he 'only stuck the tip in.'

QUOTE(Chi Town Sox @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) Sorry I guess i phrased it wrong, from what i know kobe and irvin were caught in their acts. i guess what i wanted to say was that the public figure came "out of the blue" and apologized when noone knew about it or wouldve found out. Thanks alot Public figures so that ALL THE TIME. Honestly, no public figure is going to come out with dirt on himself unless he knows the s*** is about to hit the fan. That's human nature.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) Michael Irvin apologizing for having a suitcase full of coke and hookers in a Dallas hotel room. edit: Steffs reply threw me off Irvin shouldnt have apologized, he should have been thrown in the pokey. How many hookers did he have stuffed into the suitcase?

whitesoxfan101., try this lin k i posted earlier. It has breaking web stories and good live streams as well. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) This news channel is streaming some pretty good live video from New orleans. http://www.wdsu.com/index.html Absolutely, if they cannot fix the existing breaches, reinforce the levee system, and get the levee pumps running on emergency power, then they haven't seen the worst of the flooding.

And of course now the looting has begun.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) Not really...Boyle was in Young Frankenstein, thereby making him uber-cool, and he was brilliant as Frank Barone. But Brenner's character from Westworld waaay trumps Peter's Monster on the cool scale. And that from someone who puts Young Frank in his top 5 favorite films list.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) Exactly, all of my comparisons have been hair based. Next up os friggin' Yul Brenner. Well, better Yul Brenner than Peter Boyle.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) There is a 200 foot breach in the main levee holding back Lake Ponchitrain and water is pouring out of it. http://www.wwltv.com/ Mayor Nagin (who I'm beginning to think is a pretty good leader, and will be the Rudy Guliani of the Katrina recovery effort) said today that some parts of the city are under 20 feet of water. Hopefully they can get the levee breaches closed without additional parts of the system failing or else the flooding is going to get even worse.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) But he is always sleeping man. Funny story I have heard. I guess Jeff has had to move his house numerous times in Australia. I guess people have been driving into his driveway at 2 in thr morning, honking the horn, and screaming "WAKE UP JEFF"!!! LOL! My kids scream "WAKE UP JEFF!!!" whenever I pretend to be asleep when I'm playing with them. The funny thing is that they have been doing this for a couple of years and really have been out of the Wiggles for a while, so they really have to think back to even remember where the reference came from.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) I wouldn't know that. He is the red shirt. I would guess that Greg is the one most called "hot". The blue shirt guy. Nah, Jeff (purple shirt) is definitely the hottie of the group. Aside from the fact that he has the facial features of a fetus in formaldehyde, that is.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) You should have gone to The Wiggles show at the All-State a few weeks ago! THAT was entertainment value for your dollar!!! Yep, your street cred is just going through the roof, Bro.

QUOTE(the southside tiger @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) I just got out of my first ever college course. Criminal justice. The teacher was pretty chill it seemed. I have another one, not nearly as interesting looking (Israeli history through archaeology), at one oclock. The archaeology course sounds more interesting than the criminal justice course to me.

Buehrle thinks Rangers might be cheating
FlaSoxxJim replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) If you feel like a team is cheating...you take advantage of this. If we honestly thought they were stealing signs, then you switch the signs around and try to trick them into believing the wrong pitch was coming. I remember in high school baseball when our coach would steal signs. It was good to know what was coming. However, if the other team switched their signs, and our coach relayed the wrong pitch....you were screwed. Sure, the team should have a strategy to deal with sign stealing. It;s not like it is a new phenomenon in the game. The thing that makes me doubt it actually was sign-stealing that got Mark into trouble (even if I'm not up in arms about his comments) is simply that it was Mark. As fast as he sets up and pitches, how realistic is is that someone with binoculars or a telescope behind CF is going to catch signs from AJ, get that relayed into a visible tipoff with some secret stadium light code, and have the guy at the plate see the light signal to be ready for the coming pitch? Not very, I'd suspect. -
Buehrle thinks Rangers might be cheating
FlaSoxxJim replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Capn12 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 01:45 AM) Lets just all agree that coming out right after the bad performance and making such comments was not a real smart thing to do by Buehrle, and leave it at that. It would have served him better to just tell his coaches and teammates to look out for it the next 2 days, tehn saying anything to the press. I would have agreed until I read Soxbadger's astute take on it. If they're not cheating, than it's a couple days of media heat on mark for his comments, which is nothing he or the team can't handle. If they were cheating, it is highly unlikely they will try to get away with it for the rest of this series with everybody looking for it, and the Sox are assured of a level playing field for the next 3 games. I agree with SB that if Mark felt the need to call the Rangers out on his suspicions, now is teh most beneficial time to do it from the White Sox perspective. -
For anybody who whent apes*** whan Dylan went electric in 1965, this bit of news should put them in their graves. http://abcnews.go.com/Business/Entertainme...=1066966&page=1 Personally, I'd be more incensed if it was a new studio release. But since it's an official release of long-available (as bootlegs) tracks, I guess I'm willing to see it as an experiment to see if he can make inroads with new audiences and/or reconnect with an old audience. Anybody else have an opinion on this?

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) I loathe MTV. I was told to turn it on during Kelly Clarkson's train wreck performance, and that's all i saw. I didn't see the performance in question, but I saw the new sound/new look Clarkson on an SNL appearance a few months back and Ifound it much more appealing than the American Idol bubblegum version.
