  1. When I got this emailed to me from chisox.com, I assumed the money was going to White Sox Charities, but it sure doesn't seem like it looking at that page. I guess this is the way Cub fans are used to buying tickets and maybe this is just the Sox org's way of making them feel right at home.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) Of course, given that many of them aren't actually terrorists...that most of the people who have been at Gitmo have never been charged or tried with a crime, and most importantly, that many of them were simply rounded up for rewards, it's slightly wrong to call them terrorists. What actually happened was that when the U.S. went into Afghanistan, we put up big rewards for anyone who would turn in an Al Qaeda suspect. So, the Afghan people started pointing fingers at each other in droves...entirely for the reward money. And since the U.S. had absolutely no way of filtering out which ones were AQ affiliates and which weren't, people were just rounded up and sent away to Gitmo. This was the conclusion of a 2002 CIA report that was leaked to the NYT in 2004. Yes, but as NUKE has repeatedly pointed out, once the suspects are determined to not be a threat or a source of information they are set free so no harm no foul, right Sure it's taken more than TWO YEARS in many cases to come to these conclusions, but what the hell are they whining about? I declined to use green in the above because it's nowhere near green enough to convey what I think of that off-hand dismissal of the situation.
  3. vodka flavor. Call me whacky.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 11:27 AM) Then again, if jet fuel can burn hot enough to melt steel girders then why wasn't it hot enough to melt a computer moniter sitting upon a filing cabinet at the edge of the hole in the Pentagon? Well, there are still a lot of wierd and unanswered aspects about the Pentagon attack. Talk about food for conspiracies. I do entirely concur with Wedge about the apalling lack of scrutiny and investigation post 9-11, compared to the level of investigation that Columbia got.
  5. Math is hard... Let's go SHOPPING!! OK, with that out of the way, I'm going to try to support the official, non-conspircy version as to what brought the towers down (whether anybody knew the attack was coming is a separate conspiracy issue). I don't know if the PhD guy's assertion that a jet fuel fire can't burn hot enough to melt steel is valid or not. If it's valid, why were the initial official explanations of the collapses not immediately brought under scrutiny? If the fuel fires did burn hot enough to slag the steel beam supports, then what you have to factor into all that physics is the instantaneous disappearance of the weight-bearing structural integrity of the buildings at the point that a critical threshold temperature was reached. At that point, all of the concrete and non-supportive steel is nothing but weight to be pulled fown by gravity in the 9-10 seconds you would expect it to take.
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) Hijacking jerks.. This thread was hijaked before it ever left the tarmac.
  7. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) Sweet! Tell me what I've won Jim! How about an aquaculture CD? Oh, crap! I knew there was something I was supposed to do.
  8. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) it's pretty apparent that marijuana is outlawed for pretty specious reasons, especially when you consider alcohol is still legal.... DING! DING! DING! We have a winner!
  9. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) How many people on this board do you think remembers that sketch? Not too many, which is why I didn't finish the line to see how many other old farts chimed in. [/basking in my increasing irrelevance]
  10. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 10:22 AM) ... it makes me sick to my stomach. That must be the weed.
  11. Well afterwards, when the reporters ask him how his day in court was, I know what his answer is going to be. wait for it... RUFF!! Damn, but I could slay 'em back in the third grade.
  12. So anyway... there's this runaway bride chick whose crazy, and I though maybe it would be cool if someone started a thread about her...
  13. And it all begs the question of what Durbin's detractors here think the answer to his hypothetical should be. If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly think to yourself, 'Hell yeah! That's the way to do it. Boy why can't Americans take care of business like that?'. Because there's nothing alarming about the message. It's only the messengers causing the problems. Obviously it is only important to say we're better than the rest of the world. We don't actually have to be better than the rest of the world.
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq. Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it's worked for over 200 years and we're not using it anymore.
  15. QUOTE(winodj @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 09:31 AM) Just cause doing something makes you a douchebag, doesn't mean it should be against the law to do it. Presenting...
  16. Getting away from the nuances of NBA style of play for a moment... The runaway bride selling the rights to her life and getting a fat payday out of it is so pathetic and so predictable. Being a f*** up is the best thing the Butafuccos (sp?), Tanya Hardings, and Monica Lewinskis ever did for themselves from a payday perspective. Lack of any integrity, pride or dignity and an extreme willingness to whore themselves for a buck is also a common denominator.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 07:30 AM) Of course he is being misinterpreted. :rolly Of course he is. Read what he said.
  18. It's Taranto's sensationalist reporting (or whoever it origianetd from) that is putting words in his mouth. Durbin's actual quote: "If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime--Pol Pot or others--that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners."" And again, it is the messenger being skewered, but nevermind the message.

  20. What quality of life??? I understand them being in denial of the scientific findings, as it invalidates 15 years of claims that there was at least some level of cognition. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/a...schiavo_autopsy
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 12:03 AM) And with my 3,000th post I have decided to become the Roberto Clemente of Soxtalk. Farewell forever, for this is my final post. Don't get on any airplanes. Everybody leaves SoxTalk..... at least once.
  22. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) PBS Updates Editorial Standards http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/a...pbs_standards_2 Seems the smart thing to do.
  23. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 04:03 AM) Do not let those crooked bastards have access to the constitution unless it is something very f***ing important. An anti-flag burning amendment does not qualify. Not even close. Ditto for the gay marriage amendment we were previously threatened with. The constitution is much more the living embodiment of America than the flag. Letting lawmakers wipe their ass with the constitution to make flags safe from protesters is :headshake
  24. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 04:52 AM) Am I missing something here? They removed a TC monument to pacify this idiot? Nope, they removed it so he couldn't claim that there was already a precident of religious free speech in that public place and use it as a reason his monument should be allowed as well.
  25. Per Jay Leno: The good news is that they found Michael Jackson not guilty. The bad news is that to celebrate... HE'S GOING TO DISNEYLAND!
