QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) You'll note, they also casually took revenge on that "Postcards from Buster" show, which had the audacity to actually show a same-sex couple on it that wasn't immediately on its way to Hell. It lost all its funding too. Seriously, I've always wondered why some of the shows on that network (notably Sesame Street) can't raise enough money to pay for itself solely by selling merchandise. Some of their other programs are worth a little bit of public funds because they're educational, but Sesame Street is such a nationwide icon that it should be able to fund itself. Who would have thought a Vermont lesbian couple on a kids show could bring down such wrath? As for the Sesame merchandising thing, I suppose it can be done if the tax status of CTW is reworked and if they buy out the licensing contracts to Mattel and other licensees. As the father of two young children, I can tell you that the PBS childrens programing lineup is probably stronger and better produced than it ever has been – no thanks to the repeated cuts in federal funding it has endured over the years. The bottom line is that PBS is evil, NPR is evil, the NEA is evil, and they all need to be starved to death before everybody figures out that they too can be free thinkers.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) Do they remove parts of your brain? Hard to tell what came first, the religion or the cluelessness, but here's a smattering from the Scientology brain trust. Tom Cruise.... John Travolta...Courtney Love...Charles Manson...Lisa Marie Presley....Patrick Swayze

I'm looking for Kalapse to collapse pretty soon here. The pressure is, no doubt, unbearable.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) I was flipping through the dial over the weekend and I saw that clown (Cruise) on the MTV movie awards just smiling and laughing at all the wrong times during a brief interview. WTF is wrong with that guy? Uhhmmm... Scientology?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) Well said Jim. I lurked and read for a while, and even when I made my first post, it was a question for someone who had written an article. It would be nice if people laid back and learned what the style of the board was like, but there is no way we want to mandate anything like that. I was just going to make some snarky remark about what it must have been like posting waaay back then, until I looked and realized that my registration is only 5 people behind you. Like Indiana Jones says, it's not the years, it's the milage.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) So, Gage is off the hook? Certainly Not. If you bring technology to a grinding halt merely by staring at it, you're still Gaging the system.

QUOTE(rudylaw @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) Don't feel bad Jake it happens to the best of us. Yes, but that won't stop us all from referring to similar gaffes in the future as "pulling a Jake" or "Jaking it bigtime." I Kid Because I Care.®

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) I think the key to successful posting is to lay back and learn before you try to teach. I think a lot of admins, Mods, and veteran members agree with that, but do not like the idea of setting some mandatory minimum number of posts before a newer member can start threads, etc. Most members have doen a good job of self-moderating, and most lurked for several weeks or more before diving in. But each member has to be allowed to decide when he/she is ready to begon posting, start threads, enter into heated debates with some of the old guard, etc. Not a perfect system, perhaps, but I don't think it's broken by any means.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) I received the Mariah Carey christmas album from my parents for some odd, godforsaken reason when I was like 12. Obviously, they hate you.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:49 AM) Jim, let that be the last time you compare that garbage to the Crowes or Chris Robinson. I'll not speak of it again. Edit: It's gotta count for something that the Spin Doctors did a guest appearance on Sesame Street, right? Right? Anybody...?

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) that's the one!! "Pocket full.........LMAO. Hey! I still like that album, even if it ushered in the bad jam band era. Very tasty double stop guitar riffs throughout, and I thought the vocalist was quite good – like a non-threatening, ugly albino version of Chris Robinson.

I have learned jokes that come with their own set of instructions are often best avoided.

The first two pieces of music I owned were Three Dog Night's Greatest Hits (on 8-track), and the 45's of Macho Man and YMCA by the Village People. A dubious start to my record collection I'd say.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:15 AM) I had my 2 finals today, 2 down, 2 to go. And then 40 degree weather for 3 weeks. You're talking to a Farenheit crowd here – people will think you're bundling up for an Alaskan vacation.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 07:40 AM) Jesus his ankle is still swelling up? That can't be good. Peripheral edema (swelling of the face, hands and feet) at altitude is a common syndrome in people not used to being that high up. Frank probably only noticed discomfort because it exacerbated a preexisting condition in a tender part of his body.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 09:16 AM) Neither was I - I was out helping get a car from Minooka to Alsip lol. Minooka... isn't that a small Mediterranean island off of eastern Spain? That's a heckuva drive to Alsip.

It would have been a downer to be in attendance at the game yesterday, for sure. But I have never, never left a game until the last out no matter how big a blowout it is and no matter what kind of traffic/transit nightmare awaits outside. I've seen a couple great come-from-behind wins that friends/family who left the same game early have kicked themselves about years later. Granted, you could tell the Kids didn't have it in them last night, but it happens. Taking the good with the bad, decent outings by Viz and Shingo were good to see. If the injuries to Frank and Jermaine are minor, as suspected, then it's still just one loss and today is another day.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 08:07 AM) This is what happens when the governmental power is shifted too much to the Republican side. Of course, if it was the Democrats, there'd be a whole nest of other issues getting rammed down our throats. Ain't the two party system a grand thing?

That is too cool for words. I'm working on a proposal to build an oceans/water-themed interactive museum to be housed at the instituttion I work at –– I'm sure I could just completely blow my budget on some of these diplays.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 04:17 AM) Legalized thievery. Expect, at some point, some of the victums of this kind of crap to go into the market for RPG launchers. What is most troubling is that at the same time the government is making it easier for big busines to default on their promises in bankruptcy scenarios, they are making it much harder for individuals to seek bankruptcy protection. This will be an incredibly painful irony for all the individuals whose retirement savings are wiped out by irresponsible big businesses that are given a free pass when the restrictions are tightened up and the individuals can't file for protection. Why the country is not up in arms about this double standard I can't even fathom.
