16 Senators refuse to come out against lynching
QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 03:49 AM) No roll call, since it was a voice vote. I believe there were 84 sponsors and co-sponsors, so that's what the 16 "no" votes refer to. I think, under Senate rules, any of the 16 can add their names as co-sponsors for at least 5 days. Sneaky f***ing bastards. Balta was right on about this.

Not what I would call "heartwarming"..
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 06:59 AM) Which is why the American public never allows one party too much power for very long. However introducing a third strong party would make things worse. Imagine the grid lock with a third party wanting a taste :headshake That's why the whole place would be way better off if y'all just did things my way. Annual beer expenses would be tax deductable, that's for sure...

Microsoft Helping the Chinese
I saw this on Monday when it was first reported and it blew me away. Opinion columnist Mark Steyn of the UK hives his read on China's future, including the Microsoft issue. Well written, even if you don't agree with everything he writes: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jh...6/12/do1203.xml

Anybody won the chance to buy Sox-Cubs tickets?
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) It wouldn't be a bad deal if there was a section 325. Unfortunately there is not. D'oh! Maybe a leprechaun has been playing tricks and printing up Blarney tickets.

Suddenly, firefox is not working on this forum
Hideaway you are right – Firefox is still fragged. Earlier, IE, Firefox and Safari were all giving those errors, downloading thread links as php files, and a bunch of other wiggy s***. I PM'd Jason (who is probably at the heart of the problem) and told him we had ghosts in the machine.

Bears or Sox? Which gets you more juiced
I grew up cheering the Bears on and I spent several years as a hotdog and (when I was old enough) beer vender at Bears games, but I have come to care very little about them in the time that I have been away from Chicago. Partly it's their sucking, but it's also that I've realized I enjoy baseball much more than football. Now, when the NFL treaining camps and then preseason get going it's just a big distraction from the really important sport. But, Go Bears for those that do get jazzed by them.

The new world's fastest man
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) I understand, so for those 100 meters, he's moving at a speed of 23 MPH. You are correct.

Terry Boers rips Sox tradition
But it wouldn't be true unless the media decided to make it true. As easily as the BoSox and Cub curses are sold to the public by media spin, the media can and would develop compelling back story on the Sox not winning since 1917, throwing it in 1919, and finally making it back with a team whose style of play closely resembles that of the last Sox team to get to the WS in 1959. On top of that, you have one of a handful of marquis players that soend their entire career with one team and a coaching staff with a ton of history with the franchise as well. I may be a bit biased but WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE ABOUT THAT?

The new world's fastest man
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) Any math geeks here who can tell me how fast that is in MPH? Just curious. 100 m = 0.0621 miles, so if he was able to keep the pace up for an entire mile (unrealistic), that would be a mile in 157.33 seconds = almost a 2.5 minute mile (again, unrealistic). MPH-wise, that is 22.88 MPH.

16 Senators refuse to come out against lynching
It sounds like they don't feel there is a need to aploogize 140 years after the fact for not passing anti-lynching laws in the south after the Civil War. It would have been a meaningful symbolic gesture, but I guess it would have called the morality of white southerners of the time into question.

House Committee Screws PBS
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) You'll note, they also casually took revenge on that "Postcards from Buster" show, which had the audacity to actually show a same-sex couple on it that wasn't immediately on its way to Hell. It lost all its funding too. Seriously, I've always wondered why some of the shows on that network (notably Sesame Street) can't raise enough money to pay for itself solely by selling merchandise. Some of their other programs are worth a little bit of public funds because they're educational, but Sesame Street is such a nationwide icon that it should be able to fund itself. Who would have thought a Vermont lesbian couple on a kids show could bring down such wrath? As for the Sesame merchandising thing, I suppose it can be done if the tax status of CTW is reworked and if they buy out the licensing contracts to Mattel and other licensees. As the father of two young children, I can tell you that the PBS childrens programing lineup is probably stronger and better produced than it ever has been – no thanks to the repeated cuts in federal funding it has endured over the years. The bottom line is that PBS is evil, NPR is evil, the NEA is evil, and they all need to be starved to death before everybody figures out that they too can be free thinkers.
