  1. Obama moves the last day of the Democratic Convention to Mile High Stadium. 75,000 people will be there to watch his acceptance speech. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0708/11558.html Last time a candidate did this was when JFK did the same in 1960 at the LA Memorial Colosseum.
  2. I just wish A&E would bring King of Cars back.
  3. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) I believe the speculation that has driven up oil in the last month has been from trapped shorts. Who knew the damage wedgies could cause.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 08:38 AM) If food shortages, political witchhunts, and one million percent inflation haven't done that, I don't know what will. I think this election was Zimbabwe's last good chance for a while. I think they are pretty much stuck until the guy dies now. Dude is almost 80 so... that might not be too long from now.
  5. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) . . . where the smart people hang out. Except for the ones that went over to Bob Edwards' mornings on XM.
  6. I celebrated Independence Day with a 50 mile bike ride. It was a lot of fun, except for the part where I almost threw up 45 miles in. On the whole though, my training is going pretty well. This Thursday, I'm planning a 60 mile bike ride. Not only is getting ready for the ride helping me raise cash to help fight HIV/AIDS. It's also giving me some kind of good definition on my legs! Regardless, I'm still looking to raise money for the ride. Looking for $30 donations per friend, however if you can do more or less, it's still greatly appreciated. Click here to donate securely And thanks!
  7. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) True, but do you think any would be paying "Rush Limbaugh" money for Rush's Spirit of the Radio? The Beatles catalog = zero value. Rush = $400,000,000. Thanks to ASCAP/BMI licenses (which in 2000, cost a small commercial station in a market of less than 50,000 people somewhere in the neighborhood of $12,000), Beatles catalogs are already valued and paid for. Here's something to consider: Rush Limbaugh's show comes with fees from over 600 stations, and sells commercials that play on over 600 stations every weekday - and establishes a radio listening audience that is eclipsed only by Morning Edition on NPR.
  8. Not to mention the danger from vultures, infections and humans when they are eggs. About half the eggs laid ever actually half, the other half of the nests are contaminated by vultures, disease, humans or other turtles mixing their eggs. Of the eggs that hatch, only one percent of them reach sexual maturity. I got to participate in a release of Ridley turtles when I was in Nicaragua. If the turtles hatch during the day, the sand will be so hot as to fry them on the way to the water. The people overseeing the beach where the turtles lay their eggs had saved about 150 for release in the evening. By evening, about 20% of them had already died.
  9. I think we should be extremely happy with our candidates if the biggest thing worth worrying about is if they received a mortgage with a relatively low interest rate.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) Guess who got his own sweetheart loan? http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/07/the...mortgage_1.html http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/pos...2FiOTI4MzM1ZDc= The average rate was all of 30 basis points higher than the rate than what Obama got. Having a better than average FICO score and a secure job history gets you that.
  11. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 05:52 PM) that they don't control talk radio i suppose Clear Channel owns a lot of radio stations. A lot of them Over 1000 of them actually. They also have a stake in XM. They also until this year owned 40 television stations. And the people that run Clear Channel are very strong GOP proponents. They actually are "mainstream media." As much as they don't want to admit it. They also gave Air America a shot, running them in 25 markets or so, with not much success.
  12. If I was Premiere, I'd easily make that deal. Rush Limbaugh is ridiculous. But he makes a hell of a lot of money... This is actually a pretty good deal for Premiere/CC.
  13. Obama/Sebelius I think McCain should take Joe Lieberman. Mostly because I don't want McCain to win, so what's more appropriate than some Joe-mentum?
  14. Part 87 of I don't understand why the oil shock is fundamentally based. Oil is expensive to store and oil stockpiles remain relatively static historically. If as I read in Slate yesterday, we can really only store about 55 days worth of oil, and the supply of oil hasn't diminished, why is there a fundamental reason for such a large shock in oil?
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) Its all a part of the master plan... We are taking down China's economy, and we are all witnesses to it. And seriously hurting ours in the process, no?
  16. If radio airplay was "piracy," why do record labels send stations all that free product.
  17. If he leaves WABC, it might hurt him. WOR doesn't want him, WFAN is doing alright without him. Might actually mean he moves out of the market completely. But Farid Suleman has no intention of letting Imus go I'd wager. This is the kind of radio he wants for this station, its why Kuby got the boot.
  18. Most commercial radio stations have ASCAP AND BMI licenses IIRC. In major markets digital monitoring by ASCAP and BMI helps ensure artists get the proper royalties as well. When times were good for the RIAA, labels were paying commercial rates to air songs on radio stations. Most notably, Limp Bizkit did this in 1997.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 08:07 AM) So they didn't check the names before they put them on the mailing list when it is much easier and less messy to eliminate them, but they are going to give the money back after they receive it and have to report it, thus opening the door to the GOP and the media to prove Obama broke another campaign promise, complete with the Obama teary eyed apology and explanation including the blame and firing of someone insignificant? Sounds about par for the course. Having worked on large campaigns, that probably is how it works believe it or not. In fact, I'm willing to bet that the campaign didn't actually send the fundraiser letters but rather had its friends who control those lists send them out, at least initially. Obama has been well funded, but is far behind on general election cash. As of last month, he only had 10 million on hand for post convention election procedures which kind of puts them in money vacuum mode. Does the fact that letters got in the hands of lobbyists mean anything? No. They could sign up for the Obama campaign on the website and get a fundraising letter. Will it mean something if that check actually was accepted and not vetted? Yes.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) And another campaign promise bites the dust... http://www.suntimes.com/news/novak/1016477...novak22.article Maybe. It sounds like these people got a form letter because they were on a list. The real question is if they gave donations and if they would be accepted.
  21. I don't really hate the Cubs. I am a White Sox fan. All I needed was to get our ring first. We did, great. They can get theirs now, unless its our turn again. Cubs fans, however, are not fun. The "shrine" is also not fun. It's funny, they're going to tear the old Yankee Stadium down this year. Nobody in NYC is mad. Sure there's history there, but the place is a dump. I feel the same way about Wrigley Field. History is great and all, but the truth is that if it's not a comfortable place to watch a game, I don't want to have to spend ridiculous amounts of money to watch it.
  22. People who complain about the Fairness Doctrine have no idea about how it actually works or rather worked.
  23. So I took the plunge and got a new bike for the tour. I am totally an aerodynamic fattie on this ride. Still looking for donations too. I just need another 85 friends to support me with a $30 donation to help me reach my fundraising goal. Together we can end HIV/AIDS in our lifetime. Can you help? Click here to donate securely.
  24. Most gas stations in the midwest are making less than five cents per gallon on gas. Many stations are actually taking a small loss of one or two cents per gallon of gas to be competitive. When I worked in radio in northern Michigan, we had independent gas stations as clients. Our best one was the most expensive. The reason? He refused to make less than two cents per gallon of gas. Any gouging that might be done, is not done at the retail level. And, just to let you know at a 2 cent per gallon markup, for every ten gallons of gas stolen in a drive-off at $4.00 a gallon means that to make up the loss, your neighborhood gas station would have to sell an additional 2000 gallons of gas.
