I guess my point is that there's no way any politician can win with a lot of people. Either they awful for pandering or awful for being blunt. There's nothing in between. Kap, I didn't say you were a McCain supporter, btw. I just said that every candidate panders. A lot. This scandal seems to be purely about the fact that Obama didn't.

You know what I hate about politics? When something is said awkwardly. Because words get twisted enough on their own, and then when someone is ham-handed in what's a valid comment and all of a sudden things blow up. You have someone who says, I think that people are angry and bitter that they haven't had good jobs where they live in 25 years. And because they don't believe that government can help them financially, they cling to social issues (often religious, or gun control, or immigration) when it comes to issues of voting. So Kap, MrGenius and the other GOP water carriers out there, I'd like to know what exactly is so wrong with that statement? Because having read what he said, that's the message I get. I guess I can understand if you think its because the insinuation is that Conservative politics has failed its constituents, and disagree on that basis. If you think it's wrong, why? But I did see someone here all but call Obama a Marxist by making an observation that has nothing to do with Marxism. And I guess the thing that bothers me the most of what I've read about this comes from you, Kap. You sit there and b****, piss and moan about politicians who pander all the time. McCain's done it when it comes to the Evangelicals that he has eschewed in 2000, actually going to Bob Jones University and welcoming the endorsement of John Hagee. Hillary did it in reaction to this comment too, by saying "I don't meet bitter Pennsylvanians, I meet resilient Pennsylvanians." Obama made a rather surprisingly candid observation about what he saw. And where he saw it. And he didn't pander to make the point. And this is a problem, why?

The Governor of Connecticut is a Republican. Joe Lieberman leaving the Senate would be akin to Joe Lieberman caucusing with the Republicans.

Would today be a good day to start Brian Anderson?
Rex Kickass replied to Bubba Philips's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(forrestg @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 11:28 PM) I'm sorry I started this thread.. Brian looked horrible at the plate! I think Uribe is Brian's hero. He's copied his wild swing. Only Brian's swing is a lot longer. It was a good time to play him with the sox leading by10... I actually thought he looked pretty good at the plate in his first appearance. His swing seemed much more natural than it did before and got robbed of a hit. His second at-bat, he did look tight and nervous though. -

I'm down with that too actually. And I think that BA will be fine with it, especially if the lines of communication are kept open with him about his future. That might have been more than half the problem before, I suspect. -
The truth is that if there is enough genuine cause for removal, and enough popular support to warrant it, impeachment happens in those cases. And it succeeds. (The best example of that was Nixon - because unlike Johnson in the 1860s and Clinton in the 1990s - the movement was grassroots based, and not insider politically motivated.)
-
Now, that is just silly. Just about every talking head was wanting him to cut the Reverend adrift. Every pundit, and plenty of whispers from the Clinton campaign, wanted him to repudiate his relationship with the Reverend.

I think that voter recalls are alright, as long as they are very difficult to do. California's recall process is a little too easy in my opinion.

Wasn't everyone talking about the new leaf that BA showed in Spring Training? It would be nice to see him get at least an at-bat today. People talk about BA's bad attitude last season - but I can kind of understand that. You're told that you have to play for your job in the spring and you do. You play well enough to deserve the spot and you're left to rot. For weeks, hardly getting more than a couple spot at-bats each week. It's like you know the cards are stacked against you before you get on the field, or at bat. I just hope that this time around there is good communication between BA and Oz about the plan for him this year, and the plan isn't just to let him rot. And if the plan is a BA trade come midseason, playing time might actually make him palatable to another team. -
I haven't even weighed myself. Im moving in 6 days and that's taking more of my time than anything else right now.

Historically there is some argument there, at least with the second atomic explosion as to whether that was actually necessary.

Gov. Spitzer (NY - Dem) netted in prostitution ring
Rex Kickass replied to sox4lifeinPA's topic in The Filibuster
Actually it came up in conversation with a Daily News reporter IIRC. I just don't care who politicians bang, as long as they don't break the law to do it. -

So why is that any of our business? He didn't break the law. -

What qualities do you look for in a gym/fitness center?
Rex Kickass replied to shipps's topic in SLaM
I look for one where I don't feel lost by weight machines everywhere. I also look for one where I see other fat people working out. The last place I want to do when I work out is feel like I might be stared at. -
I just read it, it's really good.

This story, and the Dem primaries, are now officially boring.
-
NPR said today that the Fed will be cutting interest rates a full percentage point tomorrow, or at least its expected to do so.
-
There were plenty of legitimate reasons to not vote for a candidate. What religion they are isn't one of them.
-
The California delegate counts were finalized last night, according to NPR, and Obama gained 5 more delegates, Clinton 2. For a net Obama gain of 3 delegates.
-
I think Michigan, because they didn't actually have a real primary, will have a re-vote. Florida will not. However, given that Clinton admitted on NPR this week that she reneged on her pledge to not participate in the Michigan and Florida primaries, I don't feel that her delegates should be seated from those states until a consensus candidate is reached. It isn't just Michigan or Florida that broke the rules, she did too and there should be sanctions for it.

Since the GOP Primaries have a winner, John McCain. I'm going to unpin this thread.

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 11:13 PM) absolutely true.. the biggest misconception in the automobile market is that of "Us automakers" After a long, somewhat calm arguement with a girl who bought her Saturn because it was made in the US and had to support those US automarkers, I calmly took her out to her car, opened up the drivers side door and pointed to the white sticker on the inside which clearly stated that 85% of the car was produced and assembled in Mexico. I think the other 15% was Canada too. I laughed, and laughed, and laughed. You want to support a US worker with your tax refund, go buy a Mitsubishi (Normal, IL), Toyota (I think KY) or a Honda (Ohio) Toyotas are also made in Ohio.
