Obama/Sebelius does have a nice ring to it.

That's a great idea. If we could clearly define where those people go and how many jobs. The problem with these plans is that they're so complicated. The reason a lot of this "reinventing government" stuff comes with so many strings is because it affects so many people so personally, in a way that Angry Joe Voter might not realize. Because when you play with the scope of the federal government, especially when it comes to reducing and eliminating departments, you're putting the careers of thousands and thousands of people on the line. This doesn't mean that reducing the scope of government isn't a good idea, it just means that it's a complicated one and the answer is a lot less clear than a (not so)"Fair Tax" initiative.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 27, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) Exactly. The whole idea is to go into your respective conventions like you own the world, and build momentum for the general election. No one will let it be splintered. I wouldn't say noone will let that happen. It is entirely possible. This is, after all, the Democratic Party. -
So you advocate a phased reduction of workforce? Or do you advocate a phased elimination of safety net programs?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) In this case, both the dealer AND the driver's manual say 3k, then 10k. But I suppose part of that may be the fact that this is a hybrid - the gas engine only runs some of the time. My Scion xB recommends between 5 and 8 thousand miles for oil changes. Bought it new, and at 81000 miles, its still running wonderfully.

QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 09:00 AM) I like the Mazda 3, but if my current Mitsubishi dies or gets replaced, i am getting an HHR like I have for my work car. Bright orange with flames, good MPG and fun to drive. And huuuuuge blind spots and horrible rear visibility. The more I drove that car on my vacation, the less I liked it.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 27, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) You think so? Assuming that the race is still to be had (no nominee with significantly more than 50% of delegates) before Denver, what is the motivation to do that earlier? Just curious. The candidates will do anything to line up enough delegates to have that deal made before Denver. Nobody wants a multi ballot nomination process. Nobody. -
QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 27, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) Conflicted... I like Obama, HATE Kennedy. What to do? You vote for the candidate. You don't vote for his supporters.

But who absorbs them? How do we suddenly handle the shock of hundreds of thousands of people without work? Oh no problem, the state handles Unemployment Insurance. All these mandates that the Federal government requires of individual states... wouldn't those end up unfunded? Wouldn't that basically mean a higher state income tax rate?

The Gay Blades. Amazing live show. Saw them for the dozenth time this weekend.
-
That's great. What do you then do with the hundreds of thousands of people that make up your human waste? If you dismantle the IRS, and basically force a grand shrinking of the federal government, there are suddenly hundreds of thousands of newly unemployed. What do you do with them?

Because he's Ron Paul and you should check him out. Unless you actually do, then ignore that part.

Clinton winning NY, NJ, CT but getting under 50% there will be very problematic for Hillary with the delegate count.

If Edwards can crown the nominee, it happens before the convention. -

It's wide open and the truth is, the Democrats are much more likely to head into the convention without a nominee at this point than the GOP is. -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 26, 2008 -> 10:34 PM) It was all over the press two days ago that Billy had already conceded SC to Obama. I think that's enough to continue my Hillarity kills Obama theory. As I have said over and over, I hope that it's not the case, but I doubt it. Rasmussen might be able to burst your bubble. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_con...l_tracking_poll -
Actually, its her trying to save face. She hardly mentioned tonight's contest. She spent a lot of resources and couldn't even score half the votes Obama got. Hillary's support is actually pretty soft.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 26, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) Oh yea. You have to understand that the media is creaming their pants for Hillary. After Obama "HAD A GIGANTIC WIN" and Hillary won, she got the "comeback kid" label Billy had. They got their wish, and you have to understand that the media has already WAAAAAAAAAY factored in an Obama win in SC purely because of the race factor, which is sad. That's not the reaction I heard on the news tonight. -

The turnout in the SC Dem Primary as well as the NV caucus makes me wonder if, regardless of nominee, a lot of these so called safe states will still be safe for the GOP come November. -

Rasmussen tracking poll has the national difference down to 3 or four points between Clinton and Obama. As I said before Iowa, attacking Obama backfires. -

If they called it as the polls close, I'd wager that Obama got close to 50%. 81% of black votes went for Obama. 24-27% of the white vote went for obama. If that splits evenly - 50% AA turnout, 50% white turnout, we're looking at 52-55% of the total vote for Obama. -
Funny how nobody seems to mention the human cost in this. We all talk about government bloat and all that, but how do you think the economy would handle suddenly having to absorb hundreds of thousands of jobless people? Everybody seems to think that this wouldn't have an effect on the economy.
-
My head isn't in the sand. But a strong win for Obama in SC changes the press narrative. And that changes the polls. The truth is, Super Tuesday polls are pretty meaningless at this point.

QUOTE(farmteam @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 08:16 PM) I visited Minneapolis recently, and absolutely loved it. I like Chicago, but whenever I go downtown, it's a nice place, but I don't feel too comfortable there. Minneapolis was just fantastic, though, and I loved it. St. Louis is a nice city, they really like their sports teams and have great BBQ, but it's way too humid in the summer. Cities I'd love to go to: San Diego New York LA Seattle Austin Dallas Houston Philadelphia Boston Great Falls Billings London Berlin Amsterdam Copenhagen Philly is interesting as of late, but the people there are generally horrible and the city is old and difficult to navigate if you aren't taking public transportation. I love Copenhagen, its a very very relaxed city and I could see myself spending a long time there.

We thought the same thing before Iowa. We thought that it was over before NH. Except it wasn't. If Obama wins by 6 or 7 points in SC, suddenly we see a new narrative here.
