The only power he has is having people notice them.

They have about 140 planes. 100 A320s and about 35 or 40 E-190s. They have been selling a few planes to cut down capacity.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) I also loved Barcelona. I promised myself to go back when the Cathedral is finished. Paris is nice. For me, I just went with no agenda or list of places to see--it's a great city to just wander around in. Make sure you visit a bunch of little bakeries. Yum. Paris. Ugh. It's a great place to visit for a few days, but its very difficult to live in.

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 03:53 AM) This one may surprise yall... 1) Columbus, OH 2) Chicago, IL Columbus doesn't surprise me at all. It's one of the few cities in the midwest that I think I could move back to and be happy. Thanks to having the largest University in the country in the middle of the place, there's a pretty vibrant cultural life. Plus High Street=Fun.

Balance sheet shows 5 Billion in Assets, 4 Billion in Liabilities. Their fleet of planes is worth roughly the same as their liabilities.

There are so many awesome places out there. So spill it, what city(ies) is/are your favorite and why? 1. Chicago - It's the universe I grew up around. Amazing skyline, really cosmopolitan, kick ass baseball team on the South Side. 2. Berlin - I grew up watching the city completely and fundamentally change over summers with family in the city. Warm and inviting, yet humungous. Always important. And a great city to cycle around. 3. New York - A lot of the people are annoying. The fans are horrible to be around. But the city has a little bit of everything. Including the best subway system in the world... and if you can't find it in New York, you probably won't find it anywhere.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 09:27 PM) It doesn't have to. This is what I don't get with everyone's view on this - people seem to be ignoring Edwards' presence in the election. For EITHER Clinton or Obama, all they have to do to be alive in Denver is make sure the other doesn't get 50%. And as long as Edwards is still pulling his 15% (which he has been, other than the NV caucus), then its pretty likely that neither will make that 50% level. Therefore, this race is nowhere near over. All these little things - debates, single state wins... have effect of course. But there is soooo much left to go. And frankly, I don't think the Dem establishment is behind Clinton anyway, for lots of reasons (her high negs and vulnerability in a national election for one). Now, if Edwards drops out before Denver and backs Clinton, then I agree - its over. Hillary Clinton IS the Dem establishment. If you want to say that Bill Clinton is out of the party mainstream, you're out of your gourd. The truth is that Howard Dean is representative of the next generation of the party, and Obama is pretty clearly that wing's candidate. Firm believers in the 50 state strategy, and he may paint himself as a moderate, he's only doing so by being inclusive and not parsing words when it comes to policy.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) Why don't you tell us who we should vote for then because the Pope isn't listed on the ballot. I wouldn't vote for the pope. Do you know what kind of activities he was involved with as a child?

George Bush did do some stumping for his son in 2000 but it was very limited. Then again we've never had a President in a position like Bill Clinton. He did, after all, get out of the Presidency at an exceedingly young age for most Presidents and has a wife running for the same position. He's a very popular figure and is still very politically active, something that most former Presidents generally aren't after leaving office. The last Presidents to leave office in a similar popular position as Clinton were Reagan and then before that, Eisenhower. The truth is, we can't really remember a situation where we've had a former President able to do the kind of campaigning that Clinton can do. That being said, he cheapens his Presidency every time he attacks Barack Obama.

By the way, on individual stocks.... does anyone else think JetBlue is currently a steal at 4.70 a share? I'm no economist and I know that airline stocks are generally not good performers... but Lufthansa just dumped 750 million into the airline for 19% and I wouldn't think that would happen for a short term deal.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) I don't know if a "token" is going to be enough. The WGA and SAG aren't going to go down lightly on the wave of the future. I think it will. I think the WGA and SAG can understand the idea of not getting a huge amount of residuals for broadband contact, especially given that the market has not matured and probably won't for a few years yet. Also, given the Director's contract allows for another 10 years for them, the WGA will have to concede somewhat. This strike seems very much about principle. If the studios concede the principle that writers should get residuals for broadband content, even if its based on an ROI circumstance, I think the strike ends within the week.

US Magazine was reporting at least for a while that he was found in the Olsen Twins' pad.
-
I wish he'd drop out now because he'd give the out of touch not white guy a chance at beating the out of touch white woman.
-
It helps now, but maybe not later.
-
All the studios have to do is agree to a token amount for online content, and the strike ends.

They will not get a waiver. The Oscars makes nearly as much money as the Superbowl for ABC.

Nevada Caucus and SC GOP Primary discussion thread
Rex Kickass replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
Clinton's NH operation had some of the best field ops in the country, and it was her firewall. I'm not surprised about what she managed to do in NH, actually. The NV showing was a bit surprising, and in this case, I'm willing to believe the ones crying foul about voter disenfranchisement were the ones more actively looking to disenfranchise voters. -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 02:47 PM) Seriously, was he ever really "in"? From his website, to his speeches, to his not quite finished position statements, it seemed like a half assed attempt without a real desire. I hope the taste got him excited enough to really run in 4 years. I think he adds a lot to the national debate. He added more on "Law and Order," actually. Just another out of touch old white guy running for power. Good riddance, Fred.

I thought bear was 10% reduction. So this would just be a Cub market? Nobody's winning, and nobody's losing enough to care?

La Vie en Rose at least deserved best foreign nod. In support of the Unions, I will picket my TV during this. Or just watch Celebrity Rehab on VH1. Either will be about the same.

MSNBC apparently reporting that he was found surrounded by pills.

Happy birthday Balta.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) Besides if you really want to believe the worst of a party, wouldn't it be much easier just to steal another election, and install another proxy President, instead of risking a HUGE public backlash? It's not out of the realm of possibility. Tight electoral vote count? Crazy electronic balloting? Some strange irregularities in a swing state like Florida or Ohio or Missouri? Stealing elections happens quite often. 1960, 2000, 2004 (although it probably didn't need to be stolen in the first place).

If renting was throwing your money away, very few people would rent. Here are some good reasons to rent, not buy. 1. Your future may be more uncertain. You got a new job, you aren't on a contract, you aren't sure about the area you live in. 2. Your market may be overpriced. Where I live, despite the fact that the housing market has been dead for a good year, I can rent for cheaper than a comparable place would cost in mortgage alone. I have a two bedroom apartment, to get a similar size condo, my mortgage payment would be approximately 100 dollars a month higher and that doesn't even factor in property taxes that I'm not responsible for. 3. Your house isn't a gold mine. Generally, you do make money from your house over time in the form of equity. But the superheated returns we saw over the first half of this decade is neither sustainable nor normal. Generally, you make equity slowly, and over a long period of time. Given the current state of the market, there may be better short to medium term investments. 4. You aren't responsible for maintenance of your property if you rent. If something just up and dies, like a furnace or a water heater or a roof, you aren't responsible for the cost of replacement. If you're looking at a tight budget to handle a house, would you be able to handle something going wrong too?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 09:04 AM) I wonder if he is having birth certificate problems? Purely speculation, but it makes sense why he can't get into the US, especially with the history Cubans have of quickly getting older. It's weird how that happens, who knew that baby Elian was actually 23?
