Barbara Streisand actively and openly campaigned for Bill Clinton in 1992 and was one of his biggest fundraisers. She has been actively campaigning for Democratic candidates throughout the 1980s and even campaigned for Bella Abzug in 1970. She hosted a benefit for liberal Democrat Senators and Congressmen in 1986 that was broadcast live on HBO with the specific stated purpose of helping to maintain a Democratic Congressional Majority and protect the pro-choice movement. So much of what she's done professionally, she's tied into her politics. Since the early 1960s.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) You may be right. It could be just the specific polls I have seen. But it has seemed over the last couple months, in the polls I've watched, that its trending that way. We'll see. Its just guessing on my part anyway. Two polls in the last two weeks show it within a point, but even GOP internal polls released show Menendez getting a bump in the last week. Most polls show a 5-9 point edge for Menendez here. I don't think the GOP has the turnout abilities that the Dems have in NJ and that's what matters.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) Yeah, that's nice and all, but he DID insult them. He's toast. Just like he's been for the last 2+ years. Actually he meant to insult the President. He misspoke. It happens a lot. Kerry may be a douchebag but if you think he intentionally insulted soldiers... well... keep drinking the kool aid.

Any discussion of federal funded sex education is Filibuster worthy.

Actually, I'd argue Clinton is the most electable of the three.

Exactly, if you don't like the artist - for whatever reason - just don't support the artist.

You know what's funny? I remember talking to a few country PDs after the whole Dixie Chicks thing - and going after the President isn't what turned off a lot of country fans on the Dixie Chicks - it had a lot more to do with their feud with Toby Keith at the time actually. The "Boycott Dixie Chicks" movement didn't get the head of steam til they started fighting with TK.

I don't know why we don't allow the estate to posthumously appeal in cases like this.

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 06:50 PM) I'm sure this wont be the popular opinion, but while it sucks total behind for all those he screwed she didn't do it and I don't think she should be penalized. Maybe (hopefully) she will have a heart and still make good on some of the damages and only keep what she needs to live on. If his sentence wasn't vacated, she most likely would have had to live modestly. I don't see any reason why she shouldn't have to do the same now just because her crook husband is dead. She benefitted from his ill gains when he lived, she shouldn't get to benefit from them still, just because he's dead.

Internal Dem polls (grain of salt) show Ford beginning to open a lead in TN too. Democrats will win NJ, although it will be a lot closer than most people might think here. Right now it looks like the following seats could swing blue from red in order of possibility.... PA, OH, RI, MT, VA, TN.... AZ. Arizona Senate polls are quickly creeping back within the margin of error. That can't be a good sign for John Kyl. He'll probably win the race - but still the possibility is there for an 8 seat pickup! As of today, we're looking at 5 seats. Not enough to get a change in Senate leadership. PS: Here's what I see more likely than Lieberman bolting to the red side of the aisle. Lieberman taking a cabinet post. This enables Republican governor Jodi Rell to replace Lieberman with a Republican senator through 2008.

http://www.slate.com/id/2152518/entry/2152519/ Because he died before he could appeal his verdict, his punishment was vacated. The Lays will not have to offer any punitive compensation for the damage that Ken Lay has made.

Funny you should mention that, he's also supported both Menendez and Kean in New Jersey this year because they have both said they support stem cell research (although Kean has voted against stem cell research 6 out of 6 times.) It's actually part of the reason why MJF hasn't been seen in NJ - his organization supports both candidates. He's only gone out to support candidates and campaign for them when they run against other candidates who oppose stem cell research. By the way, you are right, Ben Cardin did vote against one stem cell research bill. Because two different versions of a bill were presented to the House of Representatives. The one that Cardin voted against was not a true embryonic stem cell research but rather exclusively allowed funding for creating stem cell lines without actually using embryonic stem cells. The next day, Ben Cardin voted for a different Stem Cell research bill which was not as restrictive to the science community about how the stem cells can be retrieved. Source: http://www.vote-smart.org/voting_category....x=8&go.y=10 Maybe he just thought that scientists did science better than Congress could.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Oct 29, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) Interestingly, it seems MJF has not read the entire bill, and was merely relying on what someone told him it would or would not do. Inhis interview withGeorgeStephanopolous, he said this: Stephanopoulos: In the ad now running in Missouri, Jim Caviezel speaks in Aramaic. It means, “You betray me with a kiss.” And his position, his point, is that actually even though down in Missouri they say the initiative is against cloning, it’s actually going to allow human cloning. Fox: Well, I don’t think that’s true. You know, I campaigned for Claire McCaskill. And so I have to qualify it by saying I’m not qualified to speak on the page-to-page content of the initiative. Although, I am quite sure that I’ll agree with it in spirit, I don’t know, I— On full disclosure, I haven’t read it, and that’s why I didn’t put myself up for it distinctly. Plus, he also did an ad for Ben Cardin, who actually voted against a stem cell research bill, while Steele admits that he is for the research. You did read that, right? He didn't campaign for the initiative. He campaigned for Claire McCaskill. The "answer ad" is about an initiative. Two separate campaigns.

Here's what I love about politics. Michael J Fox suffers from Parkinson's Disease and has a foundation dedicated to finding a cure for it. His foundation supports candidates who support embryonic stem cell research because they feel its the best hope to find a cure. As a result, he works with candidates who support funding for the program he wants and says in plain english, the candidate I support supports this and the one who doesn't, opposes this. His physical symptoms of his disease are plainly viewable. Somehow that's construed as negative advertising because the viewer is forced to see the effects of the disease. There's a difference between an effective ad and a negative ad.
-
Again, Michael J Fox's tremors and exaggerated movements are a symptom of the medication he's on.
-
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 26, 2006 -> 09:39 AM) Lets deconstruct that quote: Socialist: Check Anti-Family: Check Leave their Husbands: Check Kill their Children: Their support of Abortion as a means of contraception = Check Practice Witchcraft: That's too looney even for feminazis. NoGo on this one. Destroy Capitalism: Check Become Lesbians: Check Robertson was 6/7 on that one. So what you're basically saying is that the only difference between you and the mullah is a disagreement over a headcovering? Okay. It is, after all, just a matter of degrees at this point.
-
Except the symptoms that Michael J Fox is showing are symptoms of taking his medication, not being off his medication. Michael J Fox cut a similar ad for GOP Senator Arlen Specter in 2004. But I guess he wasn't acting then.

You should know first and foremost that I suffer a lack of both. So what do you have to lose?

Pat Robertson, Presidential candidate 1992.

So in other words.... the law doesn't work. Why keep it?
-
So, if they're getting past porn with this law in place... which is either unenforced, unenforceable or most likely both. What's wrong with overturning the law to ensure it isn't capriciously used for the wrong reasons?
