Since January, he's become an annoying tool.

What is the price of gasoline near you?
I'm getting off lucky at 2.19 a gallon. But it isn't so much about the relative price of gas as much as the jump. In early June, I was paying 1.85 a gallon.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) Granted I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it, but these guys (the media) are like sharks with EXTREME blood in the water. They want to devour this so bad they can taste it. They are wanting revenge for Clinton. Why would the media want revenge? The media benefitted from Clinton's sex scandal. If you said the Dems want revenge, you'd be on to something. But, at the same time, knowingly or unknowingly leaking an undercover CIA operative should be a firing offense.

Evan Bayh sounding Presidential
Warner/Bayh 08. Warner sweeps Virginia and brings WV back blue. Makes Ohio a very very very tough state to win for the GOP. Indiana stays red but the GOP is forced to take resources away from other states to defend those electoral votes.

Happy Birthday Mr. President!!
That's awesome. Me and the President apparently celebrate our birthdays the same way then!

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 07:01 PM) For a hundred grand a year I think they can suck it up. This is bulls***. Try 65-70 Grand a year to be more realistic. And try paying back huge student loan bills every month that amount to bills larger than most mortgages in Indiana. Where I live, and with my modest means - I need almost 40K a year to break even at the end of the day. And I don't have student loan payments to deal with. If they think conditions are unbearable, or inappropriate, or god forbid, put the people they serve at risk (by perhaps not being conscious enough to realize they're giving one drug instead of another) - then they have every right to organize and try to make their conditions better. If it works, more power to them.

Offshoot of the London Thread
That's really not such an outrageous statement. Sadly, because our leaders are too often willing to make cosmetic changes rather than real ones to appear like problems are actually being fixed, it takes tragedy for real change to occur. This attack in London could have been far, far worse. A part of me feels that there's a real opportunity for leaders in the Western world come to grips with what they can and can't do to protect its citizens from terror attacks without undermining the freedom and liberty that its subjects enjoy. I guess I have my optimist hat on today. I feel that there is opportunity for betterment everywhere, even in tragedy. We can become a stronger better world because of the terrible actions of a few. Sadly - because at heart I am not an optimist, I think that rather than asking for the real changes that need to happen on a governmental level to make us safer, we'll get more color coding.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) If I could afford the $$ I would. I instead put that commie pinko money into my annual NPR pledge, so it all works out I guess. I also get a subscription to Wired and US News with it.

It's odd because at my job, I HAVE to wear Capri pants. Or is that drink Capri Sun? I can never remember...

Activist Justices?
Or maybe the point that was being made is simply that the term is being thrown around with multiple definitions... and either side could very well be seen as activist.

Happy Birthday Mr. President!!
You could just pay 30 dollars a year. I will again when I start making the cash enough to afford it.

I worked in a Revco. Pharmacists were expected to work 60 hour weeks. Usually with no breaks at all during the day (and they weren't supposed to have food in the pharmacy area which they weren't supposed to leave.)

Hey, let's leave Salon out of this. I happen to like them a lot - as biased as they are. Used to like National Review too.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) Just to clarify. The Supreme Court ruled that as a private organization the Boy Scouts are free to establish their own membership standards. It did not specify what those membership standards are. The Supreme Court ruling thus continued to keep legal things like the Knights of Columbus being limited to Catholic Men, Daughters of the American Revolution, can be daughters, etc. To have ruled otherwise, the NAACP would have had to allow non colored equal access, etc. This is why the BSA position was supported by so many civic groups. I'm not certain about freebees to the BSA. I cannot think of one that BSA receives that other non profit, civic groups also receive. We stay at several bases, when allowed, but always pay the rack rate and for meals when offered. We have crossed paths with YMCA groups, school groups, Girl Scouts USA, baseball teams, etc. Eagle Scouts receive a higher level of pay in the military. Boy Scouts CAN be called up during a time of war by the President. Fort AP Hill, Virginia holds the National Jamboree every four years without the BSA paying a dime. There are benefits that the US government affords the BSA at large.
