Its a Nice Win, But There are still a few Problems
Rex Kickass replied to Butter Parque's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I mean, really. we actually got our fifth starter past three innings. That's progress in my books. -
The staff report says that Qaeda and Iraq had no active relationship. Had their been contacts? Probably. It seems that Qaeda had contacts and still does in many states, including Iran, Syria, and our allies Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Knowledge of specific people does not necessarily denote an active relationship. I heard a bunch of comission members on a radio interview respond to the administration's disagreements. "I think our staffers would disagree with the Vice President's position." The Russian intelligence report was pretty much, "we heard that they might be planning attacks in the US sometime at some point with something." I think the phrase purple monkey dishwasher might have been in there too but im not sure. Listen dude, the administration hurts itself when it gets caught in such ridiculous lies. Cheney claiming he never said what White House transcripts say he said, Wolfowitz not knowing an approximation of how many people died in Afghanistan. Bush saying he hardly knew Chalabi when he was sitting directly behind Laura Bush at the State of the Union - what did he win a contest or something? Cheney is out and out lying, but what Bush is doing isn't a lie, just a mislead... I read a recent article by Fred Kaplan where he compares it to what Clinton did. "It depends on what your meaning of relationship is." "It depends on what your meaning of prisoner of war is." "It depends on what your meaning of meeting in Prague with an Iraqi official is." Notice a pattern here? Finally, public criticism of a policy does not hurt the policy when it isn't coming from a government official carrying out said policy. We live in a democratic state where an open exchange of ideas is vital to shaping our future. Nobody here is saying that this Bin Laden dude is an alright guy here. What people are saying is that we are running the risk of changing our way of political life to fight terrorism... and if we do that, they win.

That settles it. INVADE FLORIDA!!!!

So what you're saying is that because he is attempting to show a line of poor choices in Foreign Policy that dates back over a decade, he hates America. Oh, I see. If you think that there are parts of our history that aren't worth repeating, than you hate America. By that logic, why don't we just take back women's right to vote, bring back segregation, and slavery. Oh and btw, the Bush administration in 2001, did spearhead efforts to aid Afghanistan in their fight against poppy (heroin) traffic.... by giving them money.

Christopher Hitchens is as much of a bloated assbag intellectually as Michael Moore is physically. His positions change with the wind so that he can be a contrarian more of the time, all the time. Michael Moore and Chris Hitchens never let the facts get in the way of telling their stories. Neither do a lot of conservatives. Polemics are always unfair. Duh.

Nice to see you taking the intellectual approach.

I love how when they were 17, it was all like "They're so well adjusted, and have their heads on straight and blah blah blah." Now they're super rich, but and in rehab because the parents worked them to death by the time they were 16.

What's funny is that Ryan spent over a month paying an aide to follow Obama everywhere with a video camera and get anything that might be worth a negative ad. All Obama had to do was go look at a divorce report. And he probably didn't. He won't even make any kind of statement on the issue other than, its not appropriate for me to comment on. That's rare. A politician with class.

Ummm. I'm French. Not that I'm proud of it or anything. There is one reason that makes me vote for anyone but Bush. SUPREME COURT VACANCIES. The next four years will shape the Supreme Court for the next 20 to 30 years. As many as three justices may be retiring before 2008. The question is: If you care about social issues that Bush disagrees with, reproductive rights, civil rights for gay people (including the right to fair housing and employment), stem cell research, treatment of non-citizen prisoners... then you can not in good conscience vote for George Bush in November.

My reason for supporting Kerry is simple. He is capable of reassessing his positions.. and is a pragmatist, and can be a consensus builder. He is more likely to appoint Supreme Court Justices that would not be ideologically rigid. He has served his country honorably in a time of war and I feel can provide the necessary leadership to steer this country successfully out of such a terror threat that we face now.
-
I've noticed a disconnect with the views over Kerry and the rest of the Senate. Many, in good faith, voted to approve powers of war to give to the president - perhaps unwisely - because the President argued that Iraq posed a grave threat to National Security. Because the Iraq issue had been an issue for so long, conventional wisdom would be to think that your President would have adequate evidence to justify the accusations he made against another state. He apparently didn't and now many of the people who voted for this war are voicing their displeasure and withdrawing support of the administration's current policy. That isn't flip flopping, that's trying to stop a failed policy. Being a leader doesn't mean letting a leaky ship sink because you're too stubborn to plug the holes.
-
OK: if quotes aren't good enough for you, how about some flip flops... Republicans love flip flops right, after all John Kerry is a flip flopper right? Ok, check this out. George Bush 6/17 This administration never said that the 9/11 attacks were orchestrated between Saddam and al Qaeda. George Bush in a letter to Congress 3/18/03 [A]cting pursuant to the Constitution and [the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002] is consistent with the United States and other countries continuing to take the necessary actions against international terrorists and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001.

I liked it as well. I think its less a comment on Christianity than it is just illustrating an absurd scene.

Most Mom and Pop stores start workers out at higher rates than 5.15. I care about business, but there are people who have to live on Minimum Wage salaries. I care about them too.

I never dated a model... but I did date someone without eyebrows. It's sorta the same except not at all.
-
So let me get this straight, after three years of negative job growth and flat to negative wage growth, we're supposed to reward a guy for bringing us back to where we were when he elected him? The last time I checked - plant after plant in my state is closing with the jobs going out of this country. My business isn't replacing full time people who leave. If that's growth Bush style...
-
So what you're saying is that after four years... we'll be back to where we started when Bush takes office? Wow, thats quite an accomplishment. Vote Bush/Cheney: Net Gain - Nothing.
-
Wait... you mean Reagan died???

It's not about who specifically would be appointed, its about the likelihood that, as per previous appointees (a process which was summarily halted under Bush in the early 1990s and was not restarted by Clinton either) the appointments would not be made with litmus tests on being pro life or pro choice... etc. Kerry has gone so far to say that he wouldn't use a Pro Choice litmus test for his judicial nominees, and that he would consider Pro Life judges. I have to make a choice between the person I would rather have making nominations to the court. Bush has shown little willingness to compromise on his ideology for the good of the country... take into account the administration's attempts to fight Iraq rather than meaningful battles in the war on terror. Link. Somehow I think this tendency would carry over to the Supreme Court nomination process. Kerry has yet to prove to me that his nominees would be more ideologically rigid. Further, his ideology leans closer to mine than Bush's and so if it were, his supreme court would be one I prefer. Oh yeah, and I can't vote for a president who doesn't wanna see me married.
-
Kerry - if nothing else but for one thing. SUPREME COURT NOMINATIONS.

Not as cute as Bea Arthur though. Now THAT's attractive.

That would suck if Owasippe gets sold. I've never been there but I remember wanting to go there as a kid. The scout camp near Michigan City, To Pe Ne Bee almost got sold about 10 years ago. It was a summer camp that closed in 1973 when two councils merged.... I about grew up there - I remember doing a lot of work to keep up the camp when the council stopped funding upkeep.

It varies by state. Some states have an open primary where people from any party can vote to nominate a candidate for a specific party. In some Primaries, only party members can vote but Primaries are subject to similar policies as elections - although they can vary by state. In Primary elections, other issues of binding means can be determined - and states usually only offer one date for Primary voting. Some states have caucuses. These generally have lower turnout than primaries because only rank and file party members can participate (although being considered a party member is sometimes as simple as showing up). In a caucus you can be cajoled into swinging your vote by other party members, paraphenalia is often in the room, and it can be held in a town meeting style where supporters literally gather in a corner and are counted, like in Iowa, or like a traditional voting system - although you can talk and be pressured. These are generally more informal. Michigan has a voting style caucus but still will only attract 100,000 voters, in a state with over 15 million people.

There's nothing wrong with Beer Free zones, didn't the Cubs have Family Bleacher sections for a while in the 80s and 90s? So you have to walk a few minutes to get a freakin beer between innings, so what? Whats next, gonna complain because you can't smoke at your seat either? The Upper Deck restriction IS retarded though.

Ted Rall is a douchebag. He's the left's answer to Ann Coulter but without the following or the nice rack.
