  1. Hawk mentioned something about the speed gun measuring soft tonight during the game. I don't think in 5 innings i saw a pitch over 91. I dunno if they were just bulls***ting though. He pitched relatively well tonight actually, that home run was muscled out, just like Mags was the inning before. Both good pitches and both just barely HR.
  2. Garland had a nice outing today. And some run support. So far, nice
  3. If only JM would have gotten pissed off. This really would have been a prime opportunity for an ejection to fire up his squad. Comiskey's always had rowdy fans... why does our skipper have to be so damn sleepy. Don't get me wrong, I actually like JM - but it'd be nice to see him not take the Sominex before a game once in a while.
  4. People say s*** they end up regretting all the time in public life. If the Dixie Chicks knew their audience, they would never make comments like that in public, ever. This whole nude thing is what will backfire. Are they trying to kill off their careers?
  5. I really hate to say this, but this North Korean mess is partially our fault. The agreed framework that the US government agreed to in the Clinton administration was never actually honored by our government. Although we delivered on the humanitarian aid, for the most part, this framework went without funds in the US Government. It was neglected. However, nuclear ambitions weren't really on the table until after the administration change in 2001. Perhaps it has to do with the shift in tone towards North Korea. Even though our policy didn't notably change, the tone did. Clinton spoke of "normalization" and bringing North Korea into the fold of the world community. Bush spoke of condemnation and isolation. Words do matter, and when the most powerful state in the world calls you an axis of evil, what are you going to do? The North Korean state is a terrible place, I hope and pray for liberation and a better life for their people. However, the Bush direction seems to be one towards further isolation, further anger and could be potentially disatrous for the North Korean people, the South Korean people and the 35,000 soldiers stationed near the DMZ.
  6. I think we panic too much. To be honest, I'm surprised we're doing as well as we are. We have s***ty ownership. This fish is rotten at the head. If the people up top knew what they were doing, maybe we could average 15,000 a night in April. But this organization seems to have a knack for making bad decisions on a regular basis. I wouldn't be surprised to see KW replaced by Selig when he steps down. But no matter what happens, at least we arent Tiger fans. Doomed to hell forever, they are.
  7. I'm talking 4-6 months, potentially longer. I have free stays lined up with family and friends of family in much of France, Berlin, Hamburg and Basel Switzerland. I can probably get about 2 months of couch surfing without too much problem. I'd like to find some work along the way to make it not such a big money loser. I'd actually like to break even on the trip.
  8. So, I've made plans to quit my job and apartment, sell my car and travel round the world... starting in Europe (where I know people and can couchsurf). I hope to do it in the next couple months... but I need help on ideas. Anyone know where I can get cheap airfare, free stays, etc? I'm doing this on the ultra cheap. I'm building a website for it. http://www.thisworldtraveler.com to chronicle my travels too... So, is this a good idea? Or am I just stupidly insane? Or both?
  9. Hasn't JM given us 4 straight 500 or better seasons? I realize, we only went to the playoffs once... got swept when we did... etc. But what's so bad about JM? In 2001, we firesaled way early. Before we were even close to out of contention for the playoffs. In 2002, we underacheived - but even after our team was eliminated from contention, the team played great ball down the stretch. Best in the majors, in fact. JM's Sox has faced the same problems that the As seemed to have faced in recent years. We dig ourselves into a hole early in the season. This year, so far so good. We haven't lost a series since the opening sweep by the Royals... we're the only team to beat the Royals more than once this year... and we're the only team in the Central not digging a huge hole to come out of, besides KC. So whats the big deal?
  10. So the bird killer's getting shipped off here? Great.
  11. That was nasty. I'm still not sure, was it actually intentional? Or was it an accident?
  12. Hasn't Los raised his BA from .060 to somewhere around .210 in the last 8 games?
  13. Apu, Donald Rumsfeld is not in the military. It's been generals from the military who have been the most cautious and the most honest about what they are finding. You need to separate those who are responsible for the war and those whose job it is to fight it.
  14. Apu, Yes we indeed liberated them. Don't say anything different... They were under a tyrannical regime - thats now gone because of us. Just because we violated the Geneva Convention by not protecting things like museums and libraries and we let days of violence run loose on the streets doesnt mean this still isnt a liberation.
  15. I took a politicking holiday for a while. But this flaming liberal is back. Ariana Huffington had an interesting column in Salon arguing that the ease of the war in Iraq is proof enough that the administration was wrong. That the threat wasn't nearly as real as thought. I dunno if I believe it, but an interesting point. I don't know about the rest of whats going on in the Mideast, but I did read that the same people who cheered the end of Saddam Hussein's regime in Baghdad are starting to protest the American military for a lack of protection and actual security. We guarded the oil ministry building but let the National Museum and Libraries burn. It seems to me that although the "shock and awe" is over, the matter gets insanely more difficult now. The US sends out a trial balloon about an invasion of Syria and everyone in the Coalition of the Willing says leave us out of it. Iran threatens to bring soldiers into cities along the border for stability. Kurdish troops are resented, and people seem genuinely pissed about American and Kurdish presence in Mosul and Kirkuk. Shiite muslims are getting hacked to death in Mosques. Personally, I think if they just hugged more...
  16. So now what the f*** do I do with all this duct tape. Hmmm.... where's that cat. :finger
  17. Baseball isn't a sprint, its a marathon. A few things to consider, the Sox are 8-6 so far. They've won 3 out of 4 series. In the last five games, KC has come from behind. Like the 2000 Sox, they are good and bringing in late game runs. And after what happened last night with fans on the field, didn't you think it lit a fire under the Royals' ass to hand us ours? Fact is, when s*** like that happens, the home team doesnt deserve to win.
  18. I think we really should thank Bocachica for helping us win this game. He dropped a lot of balls in CF and he couldn't hit the ball with a chance to tie. Thank you Bocachica. Its a shame I cant say your name for a while. Bocachica.
  19. You know, I dont think the Sox could have won this game without Bocachica for the Tigers. Every time there's a clutch at-bat, giving the Tigs a chance to add some runs, or a hit gets near him... Bocachica seems to not get the hit or drop the ball. He was having some serious probs in CF today. And his batting average has dropped to around 060. But mostly..... Bocachica. Bocachica. Bocachica.
  20. The Sox got two more this inning from bad bullpen management. It's been obvious that the dude pitching for the Tigs is tired, and is starting to have control problems. He had noone warming up until another run scored. He can't use German today because his control is s*** too and he threw 40 pitches yesterday. The Tigs have a very limited bullpen. They have 3 Rule 5 players in there...
  21. It'd be 3-0 if the infield defense wasnt so tough in the 6th. Lee is 5-13 this series batting.
  22. I love the fact that its for any of 78 games (only the 3 guaranteed sellouts with the Cubs are offlimits). My radio station just staged a fundraiser for Red Cross military services yesterday, and its like everyone's already forgotten about the war.

    Dilemma

Political Science, c'mon JoeBatters everybody knows that there isn't an std called poli sci...get your head in the game If poli sci isnt an STD, why did i have to take penicillin when I dropped out of school?
  24. Thinks to remember, since the KC series, the Sox are 6-2. Carlos seems to be settling down and going for the base hit rather than the home run. 3 solid hits today. So far this series, he's booted his average up nearly 60 points. Big Frank is drawing walks. 2 today and hes getting on base. We got more than 10 hits in the game - and that isn't that shabby. Detroit was aching for a win, and their offense actually showed signs of life yesterday. We just got lucky. When they hit the ball, they were hitting it hard. Yesterday, a lot of the shots to the outfield didn't fall in the gaps. Today they did. We lost a game to Detroit, but we still have a big edge on the Twins, Tribe and Tigers. When the only team ya need to worry about this week is the Royals, it ain't a bad week.
