  1. That's ridiculous. It's MLB's ballot, let them decide who only plays 1B in NL parks, on full moons, when Kevin Youkilis needs a day off. I'd say among any White Sox on the ballot, the best chance we have of getting a starter on the field (aside from the mound) is Tadahito Iguchi. With Soriano playing left field in the other league, there is no longer a slam-dunk pick at 2B in the AL, unless you give it to the Robinson Cano because he's a f***ing Yankee.
  2. What a shock, it's another Yankee blowjob courtesy of SI.
  3. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Apr 30, 2006 -> 01:30 AM) My point is if he doesn't play the position, he should not be listed there. My sentiments exactly. Jim Thome is a full-time DH and not on the ballot. Why is Ortiz special?
  4. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 04:25 AM) Kind of BS that Ortiz is on the ballot at 1B. He should have to be a write in like Thome. Got my 100 votes in. Seriously. The guy is taking votes away from Kevin Youkilis ...and guys who play first base every day for everyone else.

    LA SOXFEST

Thinking about going Sunday. Have tickets for Friday. What's going on before/after the game?
  6. The only team I really hate is the Yankees. By no means am I a Cub fan but in 2003 I would have rather seen them in the Series instead of the Marlins. But as long as the Yankees lost, it was all right. I grew up watching a lot of Cub games because they were on WGN when I got home from school, not because I was necessarily a Cub fan (the Dodgers are the only NL team I even casually follow) but because I loved baseball and my parents didn't feel like springing for SportsVision. I'd been going to Sox games my entire life and an occasional Cub game here or there, but Wrigley just wasn't quite as special as the trips down the Dan Ryan to old whitewashed Comiskey. Now, most Cub fans can be a little much to take...or at least take seriously. I was at the Dodger game last week when Rafael Furcal ran into Derrek Lee, a game that was a very mediocre showing from both teams, and from the banter in the parking lot you'd think they clinched the NL pennant that night. And when the Cubs come to town, it may as well be a home game for them because of how many fans come out of the woodwork. Never mind you're minus your five-tool All-Star, you won a game that was given to you on a silver platter. And to think they called the Red Sox idiots...
  7. T221, Row H. Coworker who is also a fellow Chicagoan will be with me. May be at Sunday's game too.
  8. A subpoena is simply a legal mandate to appear in court. It does not consitute a charge of any kind, nor any sort of guilt. Witnesses can be serviced a subpoena. There's nothing to worry about until there is something to worry about.
  9. If your house is falling down, a new paint job won't solve your problems. I think this is the problem with NBA dress codes, whether or not I agree with them (and as was the case with the sideline dress code, I do.) I think that there are very real problems with the league that aren't being solved in lieu of another dress code crackdown. Tights under short denim skirts can be sexy if you're female, but if you make millions of dollars a year playing basketball, you look like a clown.
  10. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Mar 19, 2006 -> 02:31 PM) All I gotta say is where was Debra Beasley Lafave when I was in school. I mean her mugshot is even hot... I remember reading the police reports. They were published on thesmokinggun.com when it happened. I had never wanted to be 14 and in Florida so badly before or since.

    Losing Love

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 18, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) Hi. Short end of the story is this: my girlfriend and I broke up. She left me. There wasn't anything wrong with the relationship. I'd rather not go into the circumstances, but she and I were a wonderful couple. Largely, the break came out of fear of committment, and that's as far as I'd like to go with that. It broke my heart. It was a month ago. Since then, I've tried to move on with my life. Today, I went on a date with a girl and had a splendid time. Part of me, however, feels down because if it were up to me, I'd have been with my ex. I wasn't thinking that at the time -- no way! -- but now, after the date, there's a small sadness in me. A bit of regret. And, let me just say, that I'm known to understate. How long will it take for me to stop caring about her and missing her? Has anyone here ever lost a love and to some extent regretted it for the rest of their lives, or did you get over it? It's only been a month, but you are right to get back in the game. There's no formula for how long it will take. It's about how you look at things, what other life circumstances bring. It will haunt you for as long as you will allow, but it sounds like you're not letting that get a foothold.

  14. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Mar 18, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) More than Konerko Konerko can score from second on a home run.
  15. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 12:22 PM) TUCSON - Spring things: • Former Cubs manager Jim Riggleman can sympathize with current manager Dusty Baker. With Kerry Wood already sidelined and now Mark Prior's right shoulder having flared up, questions have been raised about the workloads Wood and Prior carried in helping the Cubs claim the National League Central title in 2003. Wood led major-league pitchers by throwing 4,007 pitches that season and threw 120 or more pitches in 14 of 36 starts. Prior, meanwhile, averaged a major league-leading 114.2 pitches per nine innings that season and threw 120 or more pitches in 10 of 33 starts. Both have battled injuries ever since. Baker doesn't buy it. Neither does Riggleman, who managed the Cubs to the wild card in 1998, when he allowed Wood to throw 120 or more pitches in nine of 26 starts, including a 135-pitch effort just before he was shut down because of an injury that required reconstructive right elbow surgery. Riggleman was then questioned about how he used Wood. It is a classic case of a second-guess. "It's fair to ask about how many pitches I let Woody throw that year and what effect it might have had on him," Riggleman, now a top assistant in the St. Louis Cardinals' farm system, told the Chicago Tribune. "But the only time people seemed to be upset was when I took him out of the game. That's when I heard it from the fans and when I got asked questions by reporters. Nobody seemed to care when I left him in." If you're Dusty Baker, you shouldn't buy Wood's case. I don't know about Prior, but ever since Kerry Wood threw that 20-strikeout game at the beginning of '98 (iirc), anyone who knew anything about baseball gave the warning that if he didn't work on his mechanics, he'd blow his arm off at the elbow. It's been the warning throughout his whole career, and what have the Cubs ever done about it?
  16. AJ Pierzynski is like an early '90s Theo Fleury, in other words without the liquor and drugs.
  17. Our (sexy) neighbor is a lifelong Scientologist. My roommate and our friend found this out over brunch with her a few months back, but only after a 15 minutes worth of quality snarking on Scientology which was one of if not the most awkward moments of my adult life. She still insists she doesn't believe in aliens, but she comes and hangs out with us at our place all the time and doesn't inquire about our thetin levels.
  18. My sister is turning 17 in about another six weeks. Hands off.
  19. She should fire the publicist that told her putting a picture like that on her Olympic profile was a good idea. I've seen her look decent, but she's got a penchant for really stupid hats. Sounds like a prime candidate for What Not to Wear if you ask me.
  20. QUOTE(The Human Borch @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) I've been looking for a picture of Dr. Dre in a white sox hat for a long time. So if anyone could find one that would be great. I remember a lyric from The Chronic, the song escapes me, where Dre said "I got my chrome to the right of this White Sox hat." I always thought that was cool.
  21. QUOTE(Darth Saluki @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) 1st post I've always like the thought of a closer entering to an editted version of Def Leppard's Excitable off the Hysteria album. I've always seen it like this.... As the guy leave the pen play the woman's scream from about 15 seconds into the song, continue with the thumping bass drum to get the fans clapping and the "Stand Up! Say YEAH! Stand Up! Stand Up! Say YEAH! Stand Up! Never go Down." mix that in with some of the "Excitable" chorus and you might have some energizing music. That'd be a pretty good one, too.
  22. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) Whoever said "Seven Nation Army" hit the nail on the head. There's just something about that first part that fits perfectly. *bows* I think that the selection should be more about the riffs and the melody than about the actual lyrics because at most it will get maybe a minute-90 seconds' worth of playing time from the time the bullpen gates open until play resumes. IMO, the riffs are infectious, the feeling is ominous, and the cadence lends itself well to a stroll out and some warmup tosses. And I've got serious biases on the issue, but I think stuff like AC/DC and Metallica are every shade of played out. Angel Stadium uses "Thunderstruck" as gratuitously as they do at the Cell.
  23. I prefer "Here Comes the Hammer" by MC Hammer. "Let's make it smooooth...ROUGH!" On the subject of "Seven Nation Army", I found out about Italian soccer fans co-opting the bass line as their chant. Then I made a new ringtone out of it for my phone. Imagine the Cell alive with this when Bobby takes the mound.
  24. How could I forget this one... "500% More Man" by Bo Diddley
  25. I like American Roots music, jazz, blues, bluegrass, old country, folk, and really good rock and roll. I particularly dig a lot of the bands coming out of Detroit in the past few years like The White Stripes, Soledad Brothers, Brendan Benson, The Come Ons, and the Detroit Cobras. And a whole bunch of other stuff that's too much of a mishmash to describe.
