QUOTE(FLsouthsider @ Dec 17, 2005 -> 02:36 AM) what, no mention of bob james? for shame, boys, for shame. Looked like the overweight X-Wing Pilot in the Death Star attack scene in Star Wars. Al Jones.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) Jose DeLeon His 2-19 record with Pittsburgh ranked for a long time as most losses in a season. Anthony Young from the Mets tied that sometime in the 90s, and the next season was traded to the Cubs.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) Juan Agosto On the '83 team. Pitcher, for sure, right-hander, and I think out of the pen. I was only 6.

SI book came today, anyone get no.1?

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) They probably gave a lot of the lowest numbers to members of the team and PR staff as keepsakes. just a guess A lot of times with numbered print runs, the press or the client (in this case, I'm referring to SI) will retain the lowest numbers. There is no real way to know. -
QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 10:21 PM) dave gallagher In the late 1980s, could be seen on local TV stations advertising the Stride Trainer, which were pretty much leg irons except made out of plastic and velcro, that one would tie to their ankles while taking batting practice. QUOTE(Adam G @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) It depends on what he's looking for. If he wants the "best deal" (i.e. most money), then Boras is the best in the business at getting that for his clients and there'd be no reason for Crede to fire him. If he wants nothing more than to resign with the Sox, he can dump Boras and negotiate himself or he can direct Boras to resign for a reasonable amount. As for Williams refusing to negotiate with any Boras client, that's just posturing for the media. I agree and would really like to hear what Crede wants to do, whether he's looking for a payday or to stay with the Sox. I think that after Rowand, he would be the most likely trading piece for Kenny Williams but that depends even moreso on what he does this coming year.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) Do they even let you do that in any sport? Sure they do. Robert Parish wore 00 for the Celtics and Bulls. There was a hockey goalie in the 1970s who wore 00, I forget his name. Ed Belfour wore 00 one year in the All-Star Game, back when he was still a Blackhawk. And there was also a 00 for the Raiders in the 1960s or 70s, IIRC.

I usually have one that stands just a bit over the rest. This year it is A.J. Pierzynski. This year is also one of the first where I haven't really disliked anyone on the team, except for Damaso Marte.

I don't know, it sounds more like an insult than a surname.

Franco closes in on two-year deal with Mets

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) ... Jose Valentin ... anybody still miss our "team leader"??? That's right--Hoser led the team in E-6s and E-5s. -
As was said in another thread, if Frank comes back it means that we have a serious problem with PK or Thome.

The Red Sox didn't wear a commemorative World Champs patch on their jerseys this past season but they had a little seal on the top left hand corner of their website. I don't see why the Sox would wear one. I think it's the team's decision, though the league may have a say. I don't know. I'm getting AJ's with the WS05 patch, partially for Anaheim fans when I go down to OC this coming year.

I will always remember game 2 of the Cubs/Sox series on the South Side last year. Bottom of the 8th they bring in Shingo to get Sammy Sosa for the third out. Bullpen gates open with the gong. Two-strike pitch, one of those frisbee change-ups that crossed the plate after Sosa had completed his swing. A resounding "SHIN-GOOO!" from the stands. He made '04 a lot of fun, in no small part to how bad Billy Koch was before him. I would have loved to have him as part of the World Series team. He was a happy guy, just glad to be here, great attitude, and he loved hamburgers.

AJ's road jersey is on my wish list. Of all the silver and black gear, I always liked the road gray the best. Can't tell you why, I just do. I remember when they unveiled it at the end of the 1990 season and they had a picture in the Trib of Fisk wearing the home pinstripes, Torborg in the road gray, and Ozzie in the BP. Then they introduced those bad-ass black ones the following season and suddenly every team needed a colored third jersey. I was close to pulling the trigger on Shingo's jersey last year. Turns out my brother wants AJ's jersey too, albeit the black one. My sister's a Crede fan. I don't usually wear a lot of team stuff, but since I am planning trips to spring training, Anaheim, possibly Seattle, Cooperstown, or Fenway this coming season, I'd like to have something to wear.

His career accomplishments when put next to all-time greats like Montana are undeniably impressive, but Sportsman of the Year isn't a career achievement award. Eh well, he didn't win the Commissioner's trophy, so I can't say I really care.

Rose not on Hall's ballot in final year
Drew replied to Milkman delivers's topic in The Diamond Club
That made me laugh. Sammy Sosa could have gone on Letterman and poured wine out of a baseball bat, had a hoo-ha, and people would have forgotten about it in six months. But Sosa's a whole loaf of idiot, so of course he didn't do that. With each passing folly, George Bell is remembered ever fonder. -
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 12:20 AM) Yeah but they took that right away after soem goofy choices. I can't recall who it was that was the straw that broke the back but I know there was fear that Wade Boggs would try to go in as a Devil Ray. It was near that time that they took the chocie away. Kind of dumb to me. As long as a player played there, it should be his choice in my opinion I concur on the lameness of this ruling.

QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) That's not up to him. He'll probably go in as an Indian, since he spent so many years in Cleveland. I thought it was up to the player which hat he wears on his plaque. I thought I remembered Carlton Fisk deciding on Boston after being on the fence about it.

Mueller as a backup for Crede, sure, although I don't think that's likely. But dealing Crede for Furcal, no thanks.

I've always thought the White Sox have had good advertising. Of recent years, I've liked the "Konerko on Chemistry" ad as well as the one that ran to welcome Freddy Garcia. Seeing as how "Let's do it again!" didn't really pan out all that well, I'd like to see it remain in the archives. About the only thing I don't care for that Brooks has done is institute a basketball-style introduction. I find it particularly ironic because we had such a strong team concept, whole-is-greater-than-the-sum-of-its-parts this year. I think introducing players this way is best suited to moneyballers like the Yankees or Mets.

QUOTE(SS Gload @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 10:07 AM) A-Rod is chock full of great quotes..."Therapy is theraputic." A little bit of W must have rubbed off on him down in Texas.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 11:17 PM) As a side note, my father, who is way more knowledgable about stadiums than I am, has said that his trip to Pacbell was the best stadium he's every experienced. I'm curious to here if anyone else has been there, and what they have to say about it. Phenomenal. Right in worst spammer ever, walk into the stadium, sit down and there is the water right there. Everything about this park is so dead on.
