  1. QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 04:21 AM) maybe Pods could move to CF God, I hope not.
  2. speaking of... "Search and Destroy" Iggy Pop and the Stooges "Raw Power" Iggy Pop and the Stooges other stuff... theme from "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" I'm listening to "The Sound of Terror" by the Von Bondies and it's got potential.
  3. I'm not a Metallica fan at all, and I think that their entire catalog and AC/DCs is considerably played out around pro sports. And there's reason for that, their stuff has the right themes of foreboding power and impending doom. But give me some Stripes, Iggy, and Zeppelin.
  4. "When the Levee Breaks" Led Zeppelin
  5. "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes or "Search and Destroy" by Iggy Pop and the Stooges. Of course "Enter Sandman" is a far more likely pick.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxmurph @ Mar 4, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) Saturday and Sunday for me (unless I'm working weekends). There are quite a few Sox fans in SOCAL, you just have to know where to look. I actually play on a softball team in LA and half the guys are from Chicago. If you live in the LA area let me know and I'll fill you in on any "Chicago" get togethers. I live in Burbank. Been here going on a year in April. Show me where to look. I bought tickets for the Coachella Festival which is that weekend that I've decided to unload because I'd actually rather go to the games than spend $230 on a bunch of bands I'm not all that hot on.
  7. Just looking for someone or ones to go with to the games. Have not got tickets yet. All the other baseball fans I know down here are either Dodger or Angel fans. Anyone planning on meeting up? Tailgating?
  8. If he makes the team, it'd be almost like a baseball version of The Parent Trap with him and Bobby Jenks.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) Why? Just because the guy leaves the team suddenly his jersey becomes useless? I still wear my Rowand jersey and will for as long as it fits. When I get my road grey Widger jersey I'll proudly wear that b**** forever. For serious. Franchise players have been the California Condor of pro sports for a long, long time now. I got a Jeremy Roenick jersey in 1996 and that summer Dollar Bill let him get away to free agency. But he'd been my favorite player for years, and I still have and wear that jersey. I'd be cool with getting most any player from the '05 Sox team. QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 04:34 AM) I always thought it would be cool to get a Don Cooper jersey. I agree.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 12:28 PM) I love AJ, it still confuses me to how Twins fans could love him, sox fans love him, and Giants fans hated him, yet love Barry Bonds. The situation that gets the most press over and over is how he wouldn't put his cards down to discuss pitchers with Brett Tomko before a game. But when was the last time the Giants clubhouse was a rosy place to be?
  11. He sounds like a lot of people I went to private (Christian) high school with who would believe and regurgitate everything their preacher says.
  12. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) Bingo. Those corners are bigger than you might think. I think Rocker is a pretty thickheaded and ignorant f***ball, but I respect him having the balls to say the things that millions of other people think. I also have to respect his freedom to say them. At least you know what the deal is with Rocker. I don't know if respect is quite the word I would use for my stance on what John Rocker said, regardless if there are millions of people who feel the same way he does. People have the right to do and say a lot of things, it doesn't mean their viewpoint is respectable. Ignorance breeds hate, but how ignorant/hateful do you have to be to go on the record with statements like that? There will always be an audience for someone like this--a former Major Leaguer who probably has a small army of publicists spin-doctoring his fall from grace--but I don't know about demand anytime, anywhere.
  13. Photoshop for my current sig, Illustrator for my new one in the works. CS2, baby.
  14. My high school buddy is getting married that last weekend in March in Scottsdale. I am going to be in San Francisco the first part of that week to meet my mom and sister on their vacation and then coming down. I'll be in Phoenix or Scottsdale for the wedding. I know that Tucson Electric Park is a bit of a hike from there but I'd like to fit in some ST games if I can, and at this point have a rather pliable schedule.
  15. Not a guy I'd want on my team, but a hell of a player when he wants to be.
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 02:00 AM) It's comparable in this way ... we had a great staff '03 and added Seaver to it during the off season. We had a great staff in '05, and added Vazquez to it in the off season. We went into '84 as the prohibitive favorites, as we will do into '06. The main difference I see in the "Let's do it again!" Sox of '84 vs. the 2006 Sox is that the '84 team was built based on plug-and-play formulas and lateral moves with a GM that largely stood pat in the off-season. They brought pretty much everyone back, and they didn't even have a winning season. Rarely if ever are teams good enough to fool the rest of baseball two years in a row with the same mix of players. Even when you look at a team like Boston between '04 and '05 that was kept largely intact with Pedro Martinez being one of the only exceptions, they could not sustain the success of the year before and they had a team full of All-Stars. A lot of people picked them to go all the way again.
  17. looks like Joe Crede's chunky little brother.
  18. Hard to say. I'd rather see him break the records than Barroid, though.
  19. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) Because they are a joke. Should have just left the sport in the Olympics. Damn softball. I agree that the IOC should not have removed baseball's Olympic charter. But I also think that there is room for the WBC—soccer has both an Olympic stage and a World Cup stage and the world still can't get enough of it. The WBC scheduling is stupid, putting it weeks before the MLB season and in the middle of spring training, especially when participation from MLB players is counted upon as heavily as it currently is. Have it around December, so there are no conflicts with spring training and less worry about injury. And lastly, this is a contest that will more than likely be a lot bigger in other countries than it ever will be here.
  20. I *heart* my 12" Powerbook G4 and 20" Cinema Display. My Tangerine iMac is just a relic of the dot-com era.
  21. Nice, but I like my iPod the way it is. I was hoping that this would be something about Podcasting games and stuff.
  22. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) He is playing for the States, not the Dominican. I guess he would rather play with all the star power of the American team with Jeter, Chipper Jones, Texiera, Damon, Griffey Jr, Vernon Wells, Clemens and all the rest. Obviously I did not correctly word that post. However, my point stands. The only thing he was doing in all this flip-flopping was weighing who the stronger team would be--would I rather play for the US or the DR? Frankly I don't care who he decides to play for, but I think that the honoring homeland bit was just media posturing. It's nothing he hasn't done before. His tendency seems to be that he likes to prostrate himself before the media as continually at the crossroads of unfortunate circumstance, like the change of heart he had in Texas. I don't know who eats it up, though. He makes $25M a year, but wants to have his cake and eat it too. Everything he says all goes back to this simple principle.
  23. I was just watching ALDS Game 1 last night, and I love how we came out with guns a-blazing in that first inning. Most importantly, everything that happened before Konerko's FC--HBP, sac bunt, HBP, stolen base. They started off throttling Clement and then opened the floodgates. There was that feeling like in The Natural when lightning strikes beyond the grandstand in that final game as a foretelling of what would happen. The Sox 1st of ALCS Game 3 also had a similar feeling, and this one is particularly dear to me because I was at that game. Podsednik singled, Iguchi sac bunt, Dye double, Konerko two-run jack and Garland's four-hit gem. That was also a crucial game because after that dropped third strike call and then going back to Anaheim, the series was very much up in the air.
  24. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) If Ozzie really wants to b****, he could complain about the real jokes of the WBC, like Mark Mulder and Dan Haren being listed for the Netherlands, or Piazza being listed for Italy. (I mean, Mulder was born in South Holland, after all...) Ripping on a guy who lived his whole life in a Dominican community, lived for a long time in DR, and holds (I believe) dual citizenship is ridiculous. Not entirely. I for one thought that A-Rod's flip-flopping over who to play for if at all was total media posturing. The guy is a damn moth, he gets off on this sort of thing. If you don't if you want to play or who to play for, say you're still deciding. Don't make a decision, re-nig, beg off, and then change position. In the end I knew he'd side with the Dominicans, but as a dual citizen it's his prerogative. But don't try and tell me that he changed his mind because it's honoring his parents. Bulls***. He'd rather play with all the star power that the Dominicans have. And if the Americans had Guerrero, Ortiz, Martinez, Tejada, and all the rest you better believe that he'd want to honor his homeland by playing for the Americans. He's a spineless piece of s*** is what he is. If you want to go where the money is, just say so. If you think the grass is greener in the Bronx and what you want is a World Series ring, then just say so. Don't feed us a fabricaated web of bulls*** so you can come out smelling like a rose after your trip up the moral high road. The only thing I won't take away from him is that he's a hell of a ballplayer, although David Ortiz IMO was more valuable to the Red Sox than A-Rod to the Yankees during the '05 campaign.
