I don't have any love for Baroid, but Springer couldn't have made it any more obvious at the outset as to what the plan was. And that's just all shades of wrong, whether the guy is a juicer or just a jackass or in Baroid's case, both. He put the guy on first, but could have put him in the ER, or on a pension plan. If you think someone deserves to be thrown at, put Selig in the batter's box. By refusing to address the steroid problem, this is the situation he has fostered. And there aren't words for how sad this state of affairs has become. I was hoping against hope that Baroid would quietly retire after his knee injury, but rarely are things ever this neatly sorted out. As I was discussing with a buddy of mine a couple of weeks ago, the absolute best thing for the game, the first stitch to close this gaping wound, would be for Albert Pujols or Jim Thome to hit 74 home runs this season.

Since I have nothing to add as Torii Hunter to the White Sox is about the most ridiculous thing I've yet heard in this young season, a related story found by a quick Google... http://ozzie-ball.mlblogs.com/ozzie_ball/2...ay_the_sox.html

A sweep means three or four consecutive wins, so any sweep is pretty damn sweet. Be that as it may, if I had to choose, I'd rather a sweep be against a team in our division.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 16, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) Especially since it was announced today Zambrano has a career threatening injury. That trade might go down as one of the all time worst ones period one day, Kazmir could be that good. I think B-Mac and the pen will get it done against the struggling Rays bats tonight, but we will have to figure out a way to get a few off Kazmir, which won't be easy. GO SOX!! I thought it was Phillps too, but the trade was actually made after he was fired. I can't remember who the GM was, but it was a guy that was GM for a short time in between Phillips and Minaya IIRC. A guy I know who is a lifelong Mets fan always claims that 'Mets' stans for "Makes Erroneous Trades and Signings"

Who is your favorite player from 80's, 90's, and 00's?
Drew replied to SoxFanInDallas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
1980s- Harold Baines, Ozzie Guillen, Carlton Fisk 1990s- Robin Ventura 2000s- Paul Konerko A couple of favorite players I had as a kid growing up in the 80s weren't White Sox. My family lived in KC for about a year, the time I was old enough to start Little League and really begin to understand the game. George Brett may well have been the mayor of Kansas City back then. He was a great guy, and I love the way he played the game. He was easy to admire. On the off chance I didn't get marooned in right field (where you knew no one would ever hit it and you couldn't play with just eight guys), I played second base, because that's where you put a shrimpy kid who could field well but didn't hit for a lot of power and couldn't make the throws from across the diamond. And that was me when I was about eight. Ryne Sandberg was the best, he did it all. Or at least a lot better than Julio Cruz or Tim Huelett. Current favorite: A.J. Pierzynski, closely followed by Paul Konerko, Jim Thome, and Joe Crede. What I love about this team is that there are so many guys that are likable, and play the game admirably. -
QUOTE(worldchampsox05 @ May 13, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) yea i agree that place is just nasty..Hawk and DJ were talking about minnesota getting a new ballpark tho in a couple years The hangup is that they want a publicly-funded stadium, which the taxpayers don't want to pay for. If they were willing to secure private funding like the Giants did, they could probably have a new park by now. Problem with that is the Giants enjoy a larger market stake than the Twinkies, and they have a HOF-caliber tourist attraction to keep butts in the seats. This was talked about at least once in every sports talk radio broadcast I listened to when I lived there for all of 2003, and given the well-formed discourse of the debate I surmised it may well have been going on the day after the Humpty-Dump opened its doors in 1982.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 13, 2006 -> 12:50 PM) The problem with the Garland-Loaiza comparison is that Jon was a solid pitcher before he had his great year, last year. He might not be the Jon of 05 when all is set and done but he surely isn't going to be this bad either. I wasn't so much comparing the two as I was saying that the 18-10 year may be the best we will ever see from Garland. You probably will never see Esteban Loaiza win 21 games in a season again, either. Either way, too early to tell. Even so, 12 wins a season isn't bad for a back of the rotation starter.
-
Well, Garland could have had his Esteban Loaiza year in 2005, or he just is off to a slow start. Far too much season left to know one way or the other.
-
It's better this season, for sure, but still has its quirks.

Specifically, this set. Now I know that they don't have all twelve games in their entirety or such is the rumor. But what can you say about it that one can't deduce from looking it up on the web? I've been fed up with MLB.tv and their choppy, slow streams, their blackout restrictions, and PC-only Digital Rights Management for a while now, which means I can't even buy the downloads and view them on any computer in my house. Clicking the icon just means another few hours worth of stop-and-start, freeze-to-black, sound-only torment. But without Cable, Tivo, or a decent Network TV signal, it's the only way I can really view the Postseason games I missed because of my night job, being out of market and all. While we'd all love a set that has all twelve games, it doesn't seem in the cards at least for now. Specifically the ones I'm interested in are LDS Game 3, Games 2, 4, and 5 of ALCS, and 2 and 4 of WS...the ones I didn't see either at all or not in entirety. Thanks in advance.

I've had good luck in my travels with hotels.com. Decent selections and good pricings. NYC is the most expensive metropolis in the US to do anything, so leave 'cheap' at the door.
-
Yah, I don't get why B-Mac didn't get the nod for last night's game.
-
I actually think the Angels broadcasting team is a lot more even-handed than most when it comes to the Sox. However, I don't think you can say your slumping team is 'back' after roughing up a rookie pitcher. Let's see how Escrybaby does against Garland.
-
Hit Scioscia when he is giving the ump the lineup.
-
They ought to play "Jimbo Song" by Rev. Horton Heat whenever Thome comes to bat. I do on my Gameday mix.
-
"The White Sox aren't angry at the Angels right now--they won the ALCS, so they're focusing on their own team. The only anger they have is toward the Cubs, but now they're finally starting to take some of that ink away from them and rightfully so, because they have a very, very good team" --paraphrased from Angels radio broadcasters earlier tonight. Granted they're not exactly experts on all the nuances of our South Siders, but they gave us some well-deserved props.

In LA/SFV, it is: Mostly Dodgers Red Sox and Yankees in a dead heat a few Angels some Cubs a whisper of White Sox and maybe one or two Padres We represented pretty well at Angel Stadium. I was at Dodger Stadium for the Furcal/Lee collision, and it was pretty much a home game for the Cubs, idiotic drunkard fans cheering for a game Little Leaguers could have taken from the Dodgers when their five-tool All-Star leaves the game hurt. There is a guy I've seen tooling around Burbank in some little red rust-bucket sedan with the navy and white Red Sox B painted on the hood. And there was the kid I waited on a couple of months ago who had a red B tattoo that took up his entire triceps. Maybe that's his car. Eh well, better them than the Yankees.

QUOTE(Balance @ May 7, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) Those look like they are from the prop department of "Back to the Future III" That'd be II. Inside source says AJ will be donning power-lace cleats next week as part of a Nike promotion.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 1, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) I don't. Right. Notice how many times you saw the sleeveless jerseys after ALCS Game 1, which, OT, I really like. And I have a road gray on order, so...any way you slice it we have one of the best wardrobes in the game.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 5, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) We were able to get 2 runs on the great Santana, yet dogs*** pitchers like Earlton shut us down. MAKE THE ROYALS EAT s*** ^^^^^ I don't get what the deal is with this Elarton guy. He gave us fits last year in those crucial September games against Cleveland. He's this big dude with this really weird delivery, yet somehow isn't good enough to get picked up by a contending team so he's got to go to KC, and we can't light him up. Every game we make him look like Cy Young. I'm not opposed to using the bench but we're using with confusing frequency, and like you said, little success thus far.

f***ing bullpen.

Due and Uno are the same thing. I have to go with them, they've been doing it before anyone. And I still think they do it the best.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ May 2, 2006 -> 07:23 AM) I agree with those here that say hopefully this is not how we treat Frank. I always thought that was childish, that fans worship a guy until he's wearing a different uniform, and then he's instantly an asshole. I never booed Magglio--why would I do that? He was one of my favorites and I was certainly stunned when he left, but we'll never know exactly what went down that caused him to leave so I wish him the best. Plus, if people haven't learned in baseball that nobody is permanent no matter how long they've been around or how good they are... well, welcome to reality. Take the red pill next time. This again proves Jerry Seinfeld's "rooting for laundry" theory on team sports.

I was at the game, and it looked like he waved from where I was sitting, which was shallow right about 20 rows up. I heard this on the radio driving home and also thought the caller was on crack. It wouldn't be the first time that bad press about AJ has been fabricated.
