  1. QUOTE(Gldfinger5 @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) more like
  2. Mariotti was on some video clip on ESPN this past season claiming that the Sox 2005 postseason run 'lacked the feel-good quality of the 2003 Cubs.' I love to see him get muted on Around the Horn or have his argument totally turned upside down. The guy is a total heavy-handed Phillistine.
  3. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jan 23, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) I would say that if Borchard makes the team, he could fill the whipping boy role quite nicely. Last I checked, we still have Ross Gload...
  4. Depends on how much room you have and what your tastes are. Wall space is at a premium at my house, and what I do have is already filled out pretty well with other artwork and posters I have. I framed the Tribune front page from 10/27/05 with a $10 dealie from Michaels that I may replace with something more permanent later on, and keep the rest in a drawer. The rest would be the commemorative SI, Believe It! book, programs and ticket stubs from ALCS and World Series, and various newspaper sections. Also have a ball signed by Frank Thomas, Ozzie Guillen, and Alex Fernandez from SoxFest '94 that I found at my parents' house when I was home for the hoildays. I'm not terribly worried about keeping them archival quality as most of this is for sentimental value, although I wanted to frame at least one thing and the frontpage was what I chose.
  5. 65 North to 80/90 West, becomes 90 West, take that all the way into downtown. Take any street East to hit Michigan--off-hand I think Randolph is an Eastbound one-way but I can never remember, left on Michigan a few blocks to Wacker is right on the river. Al's #1 is good Italian Beef, Greektown isn't terribly far from there for good Gyros and stuff. Portillo's on Ontario near Wells is pretty good too, I go to the other side of LA County to the one here when I need a little taste of home. Pizzeria Uno and Due are on Wabash a block apart on Ohio/Wabash. The Berghoff is on 17 W. Adams and will be closing at the end of February, so I recommend going if you can get a table there. I used to live a few blocks from the Wieners Circle on Clark and Wrightwood, so I am partial to their dogs, Polish, and fries. It's been shown on Insomniac a few times and the counter help screams and swears at you. Good eats, but pretty far into Cub territory. The original Gold Coast Dogs is gone now from River North, but there is at least one outlet on Wabash near State that's still there, IIRC.
  6. I'd pretty much figured that would be the case, that they'd go with who was better at no. 2 between Gooch and Uribe. But I am more interested in how the middle of the order shakes out between Kong, Thome, and Dye.
  7. I hope everyone puts up better numbers this coming season but I gotta go with Iguchi-san. He was swinging a tired bat through most of the postseason, and hopefully he will have adjusted to the longer MLB season. While I thought he was a bang-up no.2 hitter, I am interested to see how he does further down the order with a chance to swing the bat more.
  8. I am thinking about driving in from LA. Perhaps a Soxtalk meetup is in order.
  9. Agreed. I remember Gossage being a more dominant pitcher than Sutter, though I only really remember them from the early 80s to the end of their careers. Puckett, though, was a five-tool player. That's a pretty low blow to compare him to Jim Rice, who was a very good player. This is one of those things where airing your dirty laundry is only going to make yourself look worse. The Hall is for the very best at their position, and while I don't know if I could say that about Gossage, I sure as hell wouldn't say that about Bruce Sutter.
  10. Dishonor this, dishonor that my ass. More media posturing from A-Rod. He wants to play for the Dominicans because of their lineup and they're the paper favorite to win just like he jumped ship from Texas to New York. And he'll probably strike out or get caught stealing in the clutch anyway, so who cares?
  11. ya, the market for those kind of goes down fast when there are World Series Champions hats to be bought.
  12. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 10:02 AM) Wait wait wait Nice Sig, But Richie Zisk was the Polish Prince Before my time. Some drunkard from the South Side called into some talk radio show I had on the day after the dropped third strike game reveling all about the Polish Prince.
  13. Not Dayn Perry, but part of the 20 Questions on MLB.com Apparently, curses are the must-have of the past few years what with the Cubs, Red Sox, and White Sox venturing far into the postseasons. But all the Yankees are is the fat kid who is whining because they were denied another slice of birthday cake.
  14. Baltimore wouldn't bite on Contreras, because they want young pitching. They'd want Brandon McCarthy + Uribe + more for Miguel Tejada. I'd rather stick with what we've got if that's the asking price for Tejada.
  15. QUOTE(bulokis @ Jan 1, 2006 -> 11:33 PM) How much do you pay for name/number put in on your jersey? Where is the best place to go? The Grandstand or MLB.com shop. Grandstand is about $40 cheaper.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) It is legal to tape the game for your own personal viewing. it is illegal to make copies and distribute them to other people, especially if there is money involved. If someone was coming on here selling unlicensed videotapes or DVDs of the World Series, then yes, that's illegal. I guess I don't see this as a totally abnormal query, or at least one much different from someone asking around their circle of friends. In that case I still feel that this classifies as personal use and the spirit of the law is against unlicensed mass-distribution. While a lawyer may be technically able to hunt you down for making a copy of a VHS dub, there is no way they would because a single copy that a Soxtalker paid for a blank tape and to have said tape shipped is not worth the effort. If you don't want to help the guy out, don't, but blowing the anti-piracy whistle is excessive.
  17. Damn, St. Charles Bowl?!? I grew up in St. Charles. I'm actually here right now, flying back to LA tomorrow. I think I had at least one birthday party there, and attended more than a few. Talk about a blast from the past.
  18. This makes the second roster in as many years that he is replacing Sammy Sosa.
  19. So far, a new cap, just a New Era 5950, and the Sox Pride DVD. My old one I've had since '97 and makes Freddy Garcia's look like new. The main thing I got was a new 20" Apple Cinema display, so AJ's jersey will have to wait for the spring training trip.
  20. For me it's a tossup. I was at Game 3 in Anaheim, which was pretty damn cool to be there for. All the controversy over Eddings and AJ, and Garland comes in and tosses a four-hitter. Outstanding defensive performance and some exciting offense, but the game was never close. The fans came out with ThunderStix a-blazing but it quieted down in a hurry. I thought that was the most important game of the Series for the Sox. I was also at Game 1 of the World Series, which was a pretty damn good game.
  21. About a month ago some idiot wrote into the Angels site saying "The Angels are a good team that was one blown call away from taking the White Sox down." Apparently he has a short memory for the four consecutive complete games by Sox pitching that totally shut his team down.
  22. I don't have TV reception at my house, my roommate and I reasoned that if we got cable we would never leave. Having said that, I am waiting for March and the release of the entire postseason on DVD, because there are games I have not yet seen other than the highlights because of my night job.
