Sox @ Braves 6:05 CDT NBCSN-CHI Lopez vs Keuchel

Idk what to think of Lopez. He has stretches where he's good but for the most part he sucks. His peripherals suck too. I don't think that he's ever had good peripherals. -

He's about as bad as I thought he would be. I agree with not giving up on him in LF, but I'm only willing to do it for 2020. If he can't play a competent LF by September 2020 it's time to DH. -

I can't wait until Castillo is off this team. I know he hit a HR last night but it really doesn't matter. -

Can someone clean up this thread, put most of it somewhere else and close that stuff up? I apologize for going down this rabbit hole and I was trying to avoid it. -

I don't necessarily agree that it's giving up on him. I think he needs to just hit. Learn how to hit in MLB, play LF later. More games at DH next year though. -

Me too. Anyway, sorry for derailing the thread. I should have known when to stop. Apologies. -

I think you're out of touch with reality. You people have all bought the con. Just because it is accepted by most people, doesn't mean that it is true. Ambition and work ethic are a learned behavior, not a personality trait. Quite frankly, it's not worth discussing anymore because we're not going to change each other's minds. Whatever lets you sleep at night. -

Nope. I believe that those people have had their will crushed by lack of opportunity. I believe that that would improve themselves if they had the opportunity to do so. Society chooses that fate for them. Those people are assigned the negative consequences of the instability of the current system. -

Or maybe is it that our quality of life is unsustainable? -

I believe that there is no such thing as lack of ambition. Everybody is ambitious. I don't believe anyone just doesn't care to better themselves. There is no such thing as a lazy person. They don't exist. There is lack of access. I believe that if the proper supports were in place, that 80% of people could do pretty much any job that exists. And I believe anyone who wants to work should be able to find a job. -

The majority of millionaires also came from upper middle class and above backgrounds. They had a financial buffer and a backup plan if their business failed. If they failed, they probably would have one. They just didn't need to. They got a ton of education in person from mom and dad. I'm done. Logging off. Bye. -

Disagree. I think ambition is directly related to the quality of education that one has. If anything, being ambitious has been a hindrance to me because I don't know how to regulate it. I don't understand when it's appropriate to ask for more responsibility. I always will offer to do more, etc. Sometimes you can take it too far. I wish people explained to me that they were laying out the groundwork first. For example, right now I'd love to go back to school and change careers, but money is a huge issue. I'm still paying for my previous education and I'm deathly afraid of taking out more debt with no guarantee of future employment. I'd have to be damn sure that it would work for me to do it. It's not a lack of ambition, it's a lack of access. -

The only thing that separates you and me from the low skilled worker is access to a better education, but I digress. Again, this is going dangerously close to politics. If everyone had access to the same education, it would be different. Right now the quality of a child's education is directly tied to their parents' income. I don't believe that poor people are inherently less intelligent than others. -

I don't believe that the entire point of capitalism is to maximize profitability. I believe it is the combination of of maximizing profitability while providing a tangible benefit to society in both goods and services and good paying jobs. If the entire point of capitalism was to maximize profitability, nobody would get paid. They'd get a roof over their head, food and nothing more. Capitalism that maximizes profitability is virtually indistinguishable from feudalism. -

I don't consider myself one either. I consider myself a social democrat. -

I think that any business model that doesn't pay their employees a living wage is a shitty business model. Extremely low wages have replaced slavery. This is why I think that the economic system as a whole is failing. We're at a tipping point, with consumption destroying the planet and too many people that can't sustain themselves. I've got my own theories about the world population as well, that that has contributed to the breaking of the system. -

I believe: 1. Maximize competition (break up the industry specific cartels) corporate consolidation has messed things up 2. Maybe 1 is enough that things get good again where we don't have to go any further. I've never lived in a world where companies that got too big got broken up. What I do know is that raising wages at the bottom helps everyone, from the average worker to the venture capitalist. I've considered moving from the US, but I can't do it unless I get a damn job first. -

I think there's a middle ground between unfettered capitalism and pure communism. That's what I'm looking for. There's still the incentive to innovate and get rich, but lower income people get higher wages and more help. I'm a believer in the Nordic model as a decent compromise. They're still capitalists but they have a larger safety net. -

Eh, I've about had it. This is getting dangerously close to politics at this point so I'm going to bow out. It was fun though.
