There we go Yoan. Get hot again.

That being said, the Sox decision to not sign either Harper or Machado looks pretty wise at this point. Harper: .232/.449/.807 111 wRC+ Machado: .266/.439/.788 110 wRC+ Is that worth $300M? For reference: Moncada: .278/.478/.811 117 wRC+ Abreu: .255/.505/.812 112 wRC+

So you think he's a worse player this year than last year then, Because the on base is worse, and you expect him to be the same guy at the end of the season this year as he was last year. Let's let it play out and we'll see
-
Moncada wasn't showing the power that he is this year though. He had like 4 HR through June 1. I happen to believe that injury he had that cost him most of May 2018 had more to do with his poor season last year than anything else.
-
There are plenty of things to be positive about, and there are plenty of reasons to be beyond frustrated. I didnt know this, but Moncada has at least one hit in 36 of his 49 games this year.

It's more about Uncle Jerry than anything else. I know all of those things, I'm sure management does too but Jerry and Kenny don't seem to give a flying fuck. Yes, I'm absolutely a fan of the Sox, i watch 100+ games per season on TV and go to as many as I can afford. I'm beyond frustrated with the lack of results from the draft over nearly two decades. They found Sale in 2010 and Anderson in 2013. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. They need to wake up and realize how far behind the rest of baseball they actually are. The philosophy is the same as a rebuild short term pain for long term gain. That being said, it's never going to happen, and there is still time for them to get some shit right. I'll believe it when I see it.

McCann is catching Lopez tonight. That's a start.

I'd argue that it is best for their long term success in baseball to avoid the Sox system. They have a better chance of making the majors with the other 29 teams. That said, I know it is unlikely to happen. Maybe if it did with HS players it would help.
-
I'm concerned that anyone other than supremely talented players can overcome the Sox player development system. If I am a College player and get drafted by the Sox I go back for my Senior year. If I'm a HS player and get drafted by the Sox I go to college. I wish this would happen so it would get management to wake up

Do the White Sox have too much starting pitching?
Jack Parkman replied to Dam8610's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, he's still a prospect but he's an older one. If he has any growing pains it kills his chances though. He needs to come up and pitch well right away. He has zero margin for error. -

Roughly 45 days. June 1 would get the year back. I think sending Kopech down to work off the rust is completely justifiable. As long as they bring him up id he's pitching well on 6/1/2020 they'll get the extra year back and it would probably do him a service. I'm not sure we can count on Dunning anymore because best case scenario he makes his MLB debut at age 26 now. I don't see how they're going to bring him up at all next year. -
IMO, he's a reach at 6 or above. 7 is about where I'd start to consider him but I wouldn't take him higher than 9 or 10. At that point the reward starts to outweigh the risk

^^^ Nice post. Stole the thoughts from my brain.

Well yes, sure but Vaughn has to be Pujols or Kris Bryant or something like that. It puts a ton of pressure on his bat. The other guys can get away with being a .270, 20 HR player and still have value. Vaughn can't.
-
I think he's riskier than most give credit for. He has to absolutely rake to have any sort of value whatsoever. If the bat doesn't translate as well, you have another Madrigal situation where people are scratching their heads about it. If he rakes, fine it's a good pick but if he struggles any bit then it is a bad pick. Vaughn probably is the riskiest player in the top 10, because all of his value is tied to his bat. As good as Vaughn may be, you can't take a 1B/DH profile in the top 3. For this reason, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Vaughn fell to 7-10 or out of the top 10 all together.

The luxury tax has become a de facto salary cap. If I were the players I'd acknowledge that fact in the next round of negotiations and go one step further and try to get a cap and floor system put into place. The owners absolutely love the way it is right now because there is a de facto cap but no floor. If the players got a floor, say at 55% of the cap, that would be huge for free agency. this year's luxury tax was at a $206M payroll. using that as the cap, the floor would be $113.3M. It would force the owners to pay younger players when they're still good AND pay mid tier FA in order to meet the floor.

I know who does what. I read fangraphs semi-religiously. I'm a math nerd and a huge baseball fan. They get my traffic because I can't afford BP.

Greg, the best thing that happened to Avi Garcia was to go to a competent organization like the Rays. If Reinsdorf and Hahn had half a brain they'd be poaching people from them.

I already asked if Pilkington has a velo uptick or not. Maybe not related to the draft, but it's still a question worth asking. They may or may not put it through
