Why not? Why can't we talk about if Rodon, Lopez and Moncada are going to take that next step? Why can't we talk about Cease and Dunning? Why can't we talk about Eloy and Robert? Why can't we talk about whether or not Giolito is ever going to figure it out? Those are all more constructive discussions than the pipedream of Harper.

That actually wasn't accurate. From 2013-17 he put up 3.5+ fWAR each season, peaking with 5.1 in 2015.

Quintana put up 5 seasons of 3.5+ fWAR, and 3>4.5.

For Lopez to be a TOR starter, he has to put up a few 4.5+ fWAR seasons.

It's possible that the org looks at this the way that old school football coaches looked at passing: If they chase a big FA, there are three possible outcomes, and two of them are bad.

Both statements are not mutually exclusive. The issue is that if Machado signed and flopped the org would use it as an excuse to be cheap, and wouldn't help out the team in other areas, etc.

I'm being overly cynical right now because I'm pissed at the FO. For the time being, they could take an 18 year old Mike Trout and turn him into a non prospect. Regardless of that, I think Collins is a non prospect anyway. Thought so a month ago, continue to think so. Rodon is somewhat disappointing for being the consensus top college arm in his class and I'm pretty sure everyone would rather have Nola now. We all look like fools there.

My perspective is this: I want to get all of my negative energy out before ST games start. I want to watch the games with a clean slate. Until then, I'm going to be overly cynical. I hope that I'm done with it by next week.
