A few months ago I had zero interest in the Gold Cup from the US perspective but now I'm curious because of the roster. I wished Torres and Edu were selected just to see them more. I dont see us competing for the title but atleast some new guys can get some playing time in an international setting. I'm picking Canada to win it this year.

Just got home from Cincy
QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) Waffle House is a wonderful establishment. Yes it is. I once went and the waitress was some fat girl that was a daytime stripper at the most ghetto club in Orlando. Well she changed into her outfit and started dancing and what not. It was funny but gross at the same time. I almost puked when I noticed she was in her socks and the grease from the floor was soaking through her socks.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) Anyone been to a World Cup before? If so what is it like? My friends went to the one in Germany and are planning on going to South Africa next year, I love to travel and thinking of joining them. I am not a huge soccer fan, follow the EPL a little on the FSC, but I can appreciate basically any sport played at its highest level. Are they run well? Is it a cluster F? Is it fun or uncomfortable in the stands? Any thoughts would be appreciated I was 12 in 94 but they had some games in Orlando. Since Orlando is already a tourist city it was jammed packed. I live in the tourist side of town and I remember looking for a new big barrell bat at a sports store in the heart of Tourist-ville after one of the games ended between Mexico and Ireland. Well the Mexican fans just stormed the streets celebrating. It was fun and scary at the same time. I wished I was able to go to a game back in 94 and have wanted to go to a WC since so I'm hoping the US gets it in 2018 b/c there is no way in hell I would go to Brazil for the 2014 WC.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 12:48 AM) We saw the fight of the year to this point tonight. Sanchez/Guida was the s***. Plain & simple. I scored it 29-28. Sanchez with a 10-8 1st round, Guida winning round 2 & I had the 3rd dead even. I was wrong about the TUF winners, I still don't see them doing anything worthwhile during their UFC runs. Stevenson saved his job tonight. Now as MMA fans we get spoiled to a great July & August. This will hopefully only get better. Nice to see you coming around on the TUF fighters. I had the Guida/Sanchez fight a draw. The 3rd round was a coin flip so I can see where Sanchez got the nod.

I'm on the Fire Bob Bradley Bandwagon if Beasley starts another meaningful game after today. Beasley is absolute trash.

Altidore really needed to finish that ball off in the first half. I wish our guys would take more distance shots instead of always trying to get inside the box. Dempsey had a nice shot from distance as did Sacha late in the game.

That was not a red card foul. Shouldve been a yellow. Ref very easily couldve given a PK when Landon got drilled in the box but decided not to allow two PKs in one game I guess. Oneywu is overrated IMO. That second goal should have been knocked away by him. Overall I thought we played well. Hard to play an elite team with 10 guys for 60 minutes.

The first 25 minutes of the Spain/NZL game was entertaining as hell. Friendly or not, I cant believe Italy allowed 3 goals to that New Zealand team. South Africa and FIFA has to be disappointed in the SA/Iraq game. I'm sure South Africa will still advance but they couldve basically wrapped up 2nd place today with a win. I wonder what the crowds are going to be like for tomorrow's matches.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) I'll watch. The US really got screwed in being placed with Brazil, Italy and Egypt. The other group has New Zealand, South Africa and Iraq (and a 4th who I forget)...talk about talent differential. I strongly believe the other pool is so much weaker in hopes that South Africa can qualify for the semis. Hopefully we can get a point vs Italy. 4 points and I would consider this a success. Making it to the semis then we had a great tournament. I'm just hoping we put together a good showing so we have something to build on come 2010.

I'm rooting for UVA or Arkansas. Southern Miss since they are a dark horse too. I dont root for west coast teams and I will never root for LSU in baseball. I dont like UNC so they are eliminated.

SOXTALK DRAFT THREAD, DAY TWO
QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) Sox just took Brian Goodwin, a top 100 OF, committed to UNC. Not sure what to think. I know it happens to all the good programs but for some reason it seems like UNC is getting cherry picked this draft.

SOXTALK DRAFT THREAD, DAY TWO
I'm surprised at the Bellamy selection in the 5th round. I've seen a good amount of him and he's got good size but he's a specialist type pitcher at the MLB level. I like him as a pitcher but you dont draft s specialist this early in the draft IMO. Maybe someone can change his delivery and try to utilize his size and become more of a power arm.

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 03:06 PM) I agree, but I'm glad that I was able to be there I bet it was a blast. I went to 2 Olympic Qualifiers last March and it was awesome. The stadium was 95% empty but I sat in a fun section. The first game was Panama vs Honduras and Honduras scored in the 90th minute and the fans went nuts. I was in that section and the fans were just throwing beer in the air. The second was the US vs Cuba and it was fun too. Funny thing was the Cuban goalie was having conversations with some of the Cuban fans while the ball was on the other side of the field. That night, he and a few others defected to Miami.

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 12:16 AM) Being at that game was one of the greatest experiences of my life, great win! Who ever decided to hold that game in Chicago needs to be fired. That game needs to be in a city where it will be a pro American crowd. Whats next, hosting Mexico in Houston? I watched from the point when Mexico tied the score til the end. Mexico looks horrible and they look so lost out there its not even funny. If there is ever a time to win a game in Mexico, its in August.

I'm starting to think I can KO AA. Guy has a glass jaw. But nice win by Rogers. I'd like to see him fight a top grappler. Diaz looked great once again.
