  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) The 'description' was "black guy." That's it. That doesn't justify stopping any and every black guy walking down the sidewalk. Knowing how this tends to play out in reality, this happens much, much, much more frequently to minorities than it happens to white people. Simply being black while walking down the street should never be a reason to stop somebody, assume they're a criminal and question them as such. That's how systemic racism works, how distrust for the police is built up, how some communities get targeted and policed much more heavily than other communities. Then I must be a racist every M-F by your definition. For my job, there are times I visit accounts in areas that arent the greatest. There is one particular store where I get hit up for spare change quite often. They all have the same story, just got out of jail, dropped off at the bus stop across the street and doesnt have any money. They also all look the same even though I've been hit up by white, black and hispanic people. They are usually wearing jorts or worn down pants, a t-shirt, for the most part tatted up and usually appears to be wandering around the parking lot with no certain direction. So when I'm headed back to my car and see a guy atleast looking respectable and neat then I have no worries. But when I see someone as I described between my car and looking around then I get my excuses ready. And I'd say the overwhelming majority I'm correct on my assumptions. It's easy to just call it racist. I think its more along the lines of profiling.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) Its a tough one. I just dont like the idea that someone can follow me around and if I get nervous or try and protect myself, he may then have the right to shoot me? It just seems circular. I also think (and correct me if Im wrong) that the fact 911 told Zimmerman to stop pursuing should be strong evidence that Zimmerman should face some consequence. If he had just listened multiple lives arent ruined. The only time you should be a hero like that, is if you actually see a violent crime taking place or imminently going to occur. Zimmerman is likely just a scared guy who freaked out once a real fight started and maybe even legitimately believed he was going to be killed. The situation just should have never happened. He wasnt told to stop. He was told something along the lines that you dont need to do that. The dispatcher even said on the stand that he isnt allowed to tell people what they can and cant do for liability reasons.
  3. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 08:27 PM) if my speculative account of that nights events is accurate, what do you think Zimmerman's punishment should be? what do you think his punishment should be based on the picture you painted? because based on your speculative account, what laws were broken by Zimmerman? Even if Zimmerman started the verbal altercation, that doesnt mean Martin can beat the ever living hell out of Zimmerman. If Zimmerman did throw the first punch, that doesnt mean Martin can beat the hell out of Zimmerman to the point where Zimmerman fears for his life.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 06:02 PM) Assuming a random young black male is probably a criminal is straight-up racist and wrong. Calling the police because you see a young black male is racist and wrong. Getting out of your car with a gun and chasing down a young black male because you think he's probably a criminal, though you've seen him do nothing wrong at all, is racist and wrong. His own recordings to the dispatcher shows he didnt know if the guy was black or not. People keep throwing around the racist term but right now the only person showing to have issues about someone's race is Martin. The state should contact some people in this thread because it appears they know exactly how everything went down that night.
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 10:48 PM) "NHLE" code gets you 30% off & free shipping from the store at NHL.com. Nice discount off the overpriced championship gear. wow, pretty cool. I'm not a jersey guy but that code gets you $75 off the Reebok Edge jersey. Might have to buy something now just for that deal.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 01:18 PM) So Bergeron is back in the hospital with a hole in his lung. They aren't sure if it was caused by a broken rib or by a pain-killing needle. Yowza. Might as well just start sliding banners over right now to make room for his number in the rafters.
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 11:39 PM) Bergeron supposedly had broken rib(s) and separated a shoulder tonight. Broken ribs and torn cartilage from game 5, separated shoulder from tonight. guess Bickell had grade 2 sprain in a knee thats a 3-4 week injury. Shaw doing his Cheever's goalie mask impersonation. After an exciting series on national tv, minus two games haha, the NHL needs to take advantage of this and market the sport and players better this summer. Stop shoving Backstrom down our throats and spread the wealth. It's never going to be at the levels of MLB,NBA,NFL but the thirst for more sports entertainment is out there. Golf, NASCAR and the UFC is getting theirs, time for the NHL to step up.
  8. well as the resident Bruins fan all I can say is congrats to you guys. Sometimes the puck doesnt bounce your way and usually in series this tight, the team that does the better job around the crease wins. Chicago got to the loose pucks a lot more frequently on both ends of the ice over the 6 games and deserved to win this series. I'll never be upset seeing an American win an individual award in hockey but there is no way you can convince me that Crawford wasnt the Conn Smythe winner. Not really upset either(Maybe I'm getting old). A little down but I guess I cant really be upset to see the B's lose like this. I guess its fitting after the game 7 vs Toronto. Oh well, congrats again guys. It was fun.
  9. Read on twitter that if it was a spleen he wouldn't have been on a plane the next morning.
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 02:23 PM) Total BS . To hit a superstar like that ,regardless of if its the Stanley Cup finals, is inexcusable especially since Toews has missed time with a concussion before this. If Keith gets suspended for a stick to the mouth why not Boychuk ? Hossa would 've missed significant time with a hit like that last year during the playoffs if it wasn't for the strike. I know Raffi Torres was a repeat offender but the NHL just showed the Cup finals take precedent over player safety and all that talk about not tolerating hits to the head is just lip service. Anyone who thought there would be a suspension is delusional. A stick to the mouth is high sticking. Swinging a stick and connecting to the face is totally different.
  11. Bill Gramatica will always be #1 in my book but to have him at 8 is bad.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 12:26 AM) When I got to the Bar tonight this idiot behind me said "I hope Kane shows up at some point." Really dude? Maybe watch a game or two. Fans start to come out of the woodwork around this time...
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 10:39 PM) It was almost an upset, but they snuck in that 10th goal at the end. May have to re-think that Oceania spot in the 2017 Confed Cup. I have no problems with Oceania getting an automatic bid to the Confederations Cup. For starters, its really just a meaningless tournament. Practically a warm up for the organizers to run a smooth tournament. Plus it gives Oceania a chance to play against the world's best.
  14. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 01:49 AM) The Heat need to figure out what they are gonna do about Wade. I really do think he's on full mode decline. He's still very good when he's healthy but the older you get, the more injury prone you become and the longer it takes a body to heal. He's had a history of being injury prone and it's only gonna get worse. LeBron, as good as he is, can't do it alone. They wont be able to do anything with Wade. He wont be traded because no one will want to trade for a guy making 20M a year who is starting to break down. He has two player options remaining for 20M in 14-15 and 21.5M in 15-16. He wont sniff that in the open market so he'll opt in.
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:40 AM) You are making up your stats. SA didn't hit a three until five minutes left in the fourth. They didnt score for the first 1:10. Duncan can sit, just not with Parker at the same time. That's right. I misread the ESPN PBP. I'm happy though ESPN pointed out that a 3-foot shot is with just 2 points. Still nitpicking on the subbing patterns. With older players, youre going to try to maximize the chance for Duncan/Parker to sit. So the final minutes of a quarter + tv timeout + a minute into the next quarter is ideal. You get them to sit for about 8 real time minutes and only miss 4 game minutes. Every coach would have done the same thing, especially if they had the lead at that point. When it comes to ranking why SA lost, that is below others. You can blame Green going 1-12. Parker not scoring in the second half. The rushed shot after the steal when it was 85-82. There was plenty of time on the shot clock to wait for the rest of the Spurs to get back on offense. No reason for Green to shoot a 3 with 16+ seconds left on the clock.
  16. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:34 AM) Stop with the absurd hyperbole. They had to change the rules of the game in the past for guys. Also squeeking through game 6 and getting an absurd shooting night from Battier = having it on lock? Game 7 and he scores 37 points and hits the shot to seal the game. It's not like Battier saved James tonight. Battier saved Bosh.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:26 AM) Given the 8-0 in the first half and the 3-0 run you mention, yes, I'd say it is fair to say Miami took advantage whdn Duncan and Parker were out together. 11-0 is a big deal. Both teams hit a 3 during the time Duncan/Parker were sitting in the 4th. Duncan also sat for the first 3 minutes of the 2Q and SA outscored the Heat 4-3. So for the 4-5 minutes that Parker and Duncan sat together, the Heat outscored SA 11-5. 14-9 during the 5 minutes where Duncan didnt play tonight. But yes, after playing 44 minutes 2 nights ago, lets run Duncan out there for 48 minutes and not give him a breather tonight.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:17 AM) End of the first when they were both on the bench is when Miami made the initial run and once again TP on the bench for your most important possession which makes Manu the primary ball handler...DUMB. We're going to critique the end of the first quarter subs now? Parker left the game with 3 minutes left in the first and Duncan with 2 minutes. Yeah the Heat went on an 8-1 in the final 3 minutes to take an 18-16 lead but when are these guys going to sit? You guys act like a coach sitting his key players to finish a quarter and get a few minutes for the tv timeout is something new. Bosh and Wade were taken out at the same time as Parker. Is Pops suppose to play these guys for minutes 9-12 and not think about the fatigue level for minutes 38-48? Want to question the possession down 4 with 30 seconds fine. But there is nothing to argue when it comes to the resting of them in the 1st or the first minute of the 4th.
  19. Duncan sat for 30 seconds and Parker sat for the first 90 seconds of the 4th. Both teams scored 3 points during that stretch. Miami really took advantage of that time on the bench.
  20. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:07 AM) Really........... players are measured by championships won when you talk about the all time greats. So Jerry West sucks. Brad Johnson and Dilfer is better than Marino and Kelly. Robert Horry should have a HOF plaque next to Jordan.
  21. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 11:53 PM) Shut up dude, stop disrespecting Magic, Larry, Kareem, Wilt etc. Wilt?? Now youre really disrespecting Lebron. Put the hate aside and lets all be grown ups about this.
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 12:00 AM) He benched Parker and Duncan to start the fourth quarter. The same exact decision that already cost them a championship in game 6. Benching Duncan and Parker together at all is laughably dumb. Then he inexplicably takes Parker out on the last meaningful possession while drawing up a give and go for Ginobli. Just terrible. So you think Duncan, who played 43 minutes tonight, should have played even more? When was he suppose to give Duncan some rest, in the middle of the 4th? Parker was exhausted too. It was a one possession game going into the final minute. Really grasping with this.
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 11:53 PM) Can we put the "genius" of pop to bed? Good god he was beyond awful this series. How was he awful? If Green makes 25% of his shots tonight or Parker shows up tonight, Spurs win the title. As someone else said, players gotta make plays at some point.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) He deserved it. He was being attacked all game long and broke through. I loved hearing the creative trash talk he was getting like "ill be here all night" I'd love to watch a game from were Pierre McGuire sits. I'm sure the game would be awesome but the talk between teams would probably just as fun. Especially if its in the middle of a playoff series.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 08:19 AM) No, they're not Wiki shows CR playing their other WCQ matches at the new stadium but shows the US game at Saprissa. Also ussoccer.com has it listed at Saprissa. I'm pretty positive the game was originally going to be at the new stadium but was switched after the snow game.
