  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2012 -> 10:02 PM) Keep in mind Dan Johnson hasn't hit over .200 in the major leagues since 2007, and is probably a Viciedo-like liability defensively at 3rd base. Brents a black hole, Ill take Pablo Ozuna out there over Brent (this coming from one of the biggest optimists here). I hope they give Brent multiple games off to rest his back and see what Eduardo can do with steady playing time.
  2. Gordon Beckham has struck out just 4 times in his last 10 games... He hasnt looked geat all year but at least hes making contact and doesnt look lost (see Brent Morel)....Has Dan Johnson still been playing 3rd down on the farm??
  3. s*** Happens...The whole Jason Heyward thing makes me wanna lean a little bit towards it was on purpose but we'll never know, either way I highly, highly doubt he was aiming for his face. He could have just been trying to brush him back, who knows. Sox sent a message without getting there pitcher tossed and possibly suspended, its over with. Lets sweep em and send them even further in the cellar EDIT: excuse my language, didnt realize we had a censor here...
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ May 18, 2012 -> 03:54 PM) Anyone have a pitch count for Humber? HA they just showed it 59
  5. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 18, 2012 -> 03:07 PM) Hit a 2 run HR .............hit in the head next AB.......pitch did not get away as Scrub announcer want sheep to believe. Hawk said it too...i didnt notice was there a warning given?? if not Jeff should be hit
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 18, 2012 -> 02:57 PM) Who says you're adding a good hitter? It's laughable seeing some of the guys who get the DH role when the NL teams come to the AL stadiums NL teams SHOULD have at least one good batter on their bench since it gets utilized so much more than in the the AL
  7. QUOTE (Jake @ May 18, 2012 -> 01:39 PM) Sarah Kustok I loveeee Sarah Kustok(in a hawk voice).....Heres hoping for a GW 8th inning pinch hit HR for Fukudome off Wood!
  8. Harold Reynolds on MLBtv "This a guy the sox have got to give this kid 500 ABs to see what he is cause he will hit them 35 HR". How does a team "rebuilding" give up a 23 year old with 35 HR potential? It just makes zero sense to me. Trading him can just NOT happen this year. -Delmon Young was traded because he was a head case.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 18, 2012 -> 12:25 AM) I could be wrong, but I would guess the average 3B OPS HAS to be lower than 724. I'm guessing 675-710. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/position/lf/sort/OPS http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/position/3b/sort/OPS s 12 3b above .725/ 10 LF above .725 but you look to be right as theres more 3B over .800....me thinking .725 was low confused me lol i play a lot of fantasy baseball so I dont really know squat about anything outside of BA HR RBIs and RUNs and I admit that.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 17, 2012 -> 10:54 PM) I agree in regards to Kenny. One other point...anyone who reads what I have been posting here for the past 6 years knows I do not often talk about trading our young players...and I've also been accused of being one of the more optimistic posters here...and always slurping the kool-aid...so I think it's pretty clear that I'm not just pulling the Debbie Downer routine, or the trade everyone routine, or the everyone in a White Sox uniform sucks routine. Then why start now??
  11. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 17, 2012 -> 10:28 PM) Just re-sign AJ. I'm not opposed to this...If this year is a failure like everyone here expects (Im still a month away from calling them a failure) I really wanna see if Tyler can be a big league hitter, if he fails and Phegley is still doing well in AAA then see if he can be an everyday catcher. If were not expecting to contend next year then catcher should not be a problem next year. If we are resign AJ.
  12. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 17, 2012 -> 10:07 PM) I'm confused. Now we're talking about trading Dayan Viciedo for a young hitter with some upside? Isn't that Dayan Viciedo? And who is this magical trade partner? Don't teams trading for young talent usually want to give up expensive veterans? Why do we want expensive veterans? Yup its pretty ridiculous.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2012 -> 09:42 PM) .669 http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/pos.../OPS/order/true He's still in the bottom quartile, but that's among the qualified players...I think it was Balta who said the major league (don't think it was AL, maybe?) average for a LFer was a 724 OPS. I think it's very realistic to expect him to put up 725-750 this season and keep improving every year, both offensively and defensively. That said, because of the position he plays, he's not valuable enough to get back a prime infielder or catching prospect, or a major league-ready starting pitcher that's in AA/AAA. If he was able to put up those numbers at 3B, then you'd have a much more valuable asset and the comparisons to Beltre would be more relevant. But 1) Williams would never trade him as long as he's GM, 2) His upside to contribute offense to the Sox in 2013-2014-2015 and beyond has a greater value to the Sox than almost any other team, particularly knowing you're probably going to be losing offense at catcher too with AJ leaving. This doesnt make sense to me, why would he have less value in LF if the average LF has a .724 OPS whereas Im sure the average 3B has a higher one....It should be the other way around. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2012 -> 09:45 PM) And all of those guys like Jon Rauch, Danny Wright and Matt Ginter being top prospects in 2000 turned into what exactly? And where was Mark Buehrle on that same list in 1999 and 2000? Outside of the Top 100. It's like those football and basketball recruiting rankings, it's ONE benchmark or indictator, but the fact that he was rated 30th versus 15th or whatever doesn't mean much. Look at Borchard's peak rating, for example. Fields, Brian Anderson, etc. I with you on that I was just pointing out that when you rank over 2000 minor leaguers 30's is a pretty good ranking.
  14. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 17, 2012 -> 08:56 PM) What makes you say this? Didn't he top out (only) in the 30's in BA's prospect lists? Who are guys who did that and had similar minor league numbers as Viciedo and became perrenial All-Stars? Interestingly, Magglio did put up similar minor league stats as Viciedo. Of course, Maggs might have had some help putting up those Major League numbers. Not sure what that only means but top 30's of all the hundreds of minor leaguers is pretty damn good. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 17, 2012 -> 09:25 PM) .649 OPS after this "monster" hot streak. Are you seriously downplaying his hot streak??
  15. not even gonna read this to see if something similar has been said....Why must something like this be posted on a day we win???
  16. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 17, 2012 -> 06:12 PM) Blowing this one would be the official beginning of the end. Blowing a 4 and 6 run lead in the 6th in two of three games with a loss in between...would be tough to come back from. You do realize this is a 162 games season and not a 7 game series...theyre not gonna be demoralized for 100 games.....TANKs ES EN FuEGO!
  17. that new hitting coach sure is paying off i guess
  18. Not trying to add to the argument as this article was just posted today but...Lovie Smith is the 7th highest paid coach in all of sports, not just football. http://www.forbes.com/pictures/eddf45hdfm/...#gallerycontent he makes 1.5 mill less than Belichick who's making the most.
  19. Keep that era under 3 Gavin, youve been money lately! GFIAA!!
  20. good to see Tank with another 2 hit game and nearly a 3 hit game with a walk off. Lexi contributed to the rally as well which is another good sign. 8 runs and 14 hits is pretty damn good output by the O, the game was just mismanaged by RV and hopefully he learns from that.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2012 -> 04:14 PM) So much for the good Peavy. It was nice while it lasted. My god dude, one bad inning!!! wasnt it you that was saying Reed is the only reliable guy in the pen, based on your logic why is he still good?
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 15, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) Great. You've gotten us back to 78 wins...which is where I predicted we'd be at the start of the year. I'm not saying thats its worth JUST 8 or 9 games....im wasting my time here, my thoughts are out on this, ill leave it at that and let the season play out.
