Oakland A's @ Chicago White Sox
I have an A's Frank Thomas jersey that I'm considering whether to wear or not if I go tonight.

What baseball team do you hate the most?
I suppose it would be the Red Sox, with the Rangers being the runner up. I know ideally, this should probably be a team from within the division.

Adam Dunn on Jim Rome
Rome is awesome. After WMVP stopped running his tape delayed show at night and Mac left for The Score, the only time my tuner ever stopped at 1000 was for Bulls games if I had no access to a tv. As an added bonus, I never again had to wake up to the cacophony that is Mike & Mike if I left the radio on overnight.

Paul Konerko: Mild Concussion
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 09:03 PM) Supposedly Ventura announced in the post game that PK has a mild concussion. Hope it's a little less mild than John Danks' season ending mild shoulder soreness.

CLE/PITT/BAL/DC Parks
I've not been, but Progressive has always struck me as very plain and unimpressive. On top of that, I had an incredibly stupid but terrifying nightmare about the place 2 or 3 years ago that I still vividly remember. The three other parks on your itinerary look like fine places to catch a game. Somewhat pertinent to this thread, late last year I was taking the Red Line back to the city after a game. There was a group of Tiger fans (4 or 5) that were also leaving the game- IIRC correctly, it was Juan Pierre's 2,000 hit game. There was some dialogue, and it eventually led to a US Cellular Field v. Comerica Park conversation. They clearly weren't too fond of Comerica, and (probably because they came into town with low expectations) really dug US Cellular Field.

GT: Royals @ Sox, 7:10, CSN
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2012 -> 06:49 PM) Pierre would be a sensational addition to the bench. Truth.

Easy there, Juan Uribe.

Twitter/Facebook
I put the facebook page to sleep at the beginning of the year, but I use Twitter- not excessively. 5 or so tweets a week. I abhor s***speak. If I want to tweet something, I figure out a way to do it in the required 140 characters or less without murdering the English language. It's kind of fun to take something that started out at around 200+ characters and gradually whittling away at it here and there until you get to 140. I don't think I even follow anyone who comes off as illiterate through their tweets. The best, though, is when something ends up at exactly 140 right off the bat- no editing, modification, or s***speak. It's such a good feeling. Makes me feel like such a good wordsmith.

Another shooting
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 06:18 PM) The Getz is Gay one? The one about the #8 pick that bats .203 I'm not sure what the confusion with hate crime/non-hate crime is. If there are clear indications that race/religion/sexual orientation etc. played a role in the crime, it's a hate crime. If it was a random act targeting whoever happens to be in the way, it's not. This particular shooting is very clearly a hate crime, while the Colorado theater shooting is not. Just because a victim is a certain religion or ethnicity doesn't automatically make it a hate crime. Some crimes just wouldn't have happened if it weren't for those afore-mentioned qualifiers.

Another shooting
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 01:49 PM) Guy's pretty clearly a white supremacist What a stupid f***ing fool. Hopefully the bullet that ended up taking him down took a while to work it's magic.

Return of an All-Star: Sale vs Royals
QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 08:20 AM) When it comes to my favorite Sox players ever, AJ is definitely part of the discussion. He easily makes it onto my Mt. Rushmore of White Sox. 35/56/14/12. I'm glad the team is playing well enough that taking it easy with Sale is something they can afford to do.

Curiosity - Mars Science Laboratory
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 11:50 AM) A gigantic nuclear powered space laser. Is there any chance we blow up Mars? Actually, I wonder how far off weapons testing on the surface of the moon or another planet is. Space fascinates me. Be it through books, internet, even the fairly generic stuff on the Discovery channel- nothing comes close to the level of fascination I have with space.

What do you think of this idea....honorary World Series ring
One of my least favorite things about the 2005 Championship is that Frank Thomas' contributions were limited to 34 Games (23 H, 12 HR, 26 RBI), with none of those ABs coming anytime close to October. Can't imagine how bittersweet it must have been for him.

Sox sign Wise, complete Myers trade
QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 04:04 PM) Dewayne Wise, the guy who made my favorite White Sox moment of all time. I haven't followed him much since he left. How was his time with the Jays and Yanks? .2 IP 0-0 WL 0.00 ERA 0H 0 R 0 ER 0 BB 0 HBP 0.00 WHIP 0 H/9... One less pitcher out there that can shut down this offense. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em or something like that.

2012 Summer Olympics Thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) Delay on weekdays makes sense. Delay on weekends for something that would be 2 pm cst, does not make sense. Speaking of delays... Makes NBC look like Pablo Punctuality.

Pale Hose vs. Piranhas 7/31/2012
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 08:50 PM) Likewise. Not feeling comfortable with him being the closer down the stretch. That's an awful lot of pressure to put on a young guy. It must have been so glorious to be a Yankee fan during save situations from about 1996-2011. I can't comprehend that feeling.

Pale Hose vs. Piranhas 7/31/2012
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 08:37 PM) What do they offer him after the year? Can't expect him to replicate this year but this is the best catcher we're going to find lol Buehrle's gone, so while Konerko is the obvious choice for Face of the Franchise, Pierzynski isn't too far behind.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 09:18 AM) Smart phones have made taking a dump at work like a little mini work vacation. This is absolutely true. Numerous times I've made it as far as sitting on the toilet before I realized something was missing. If that happens I just get up, locate and retrieve my phone, and pick up where I left off. I'm not one of those that walk around like my soul is trapped inside the phone.

Wow. May as well just scrap the term contract year and start calling it an AJ Pierzynski.
