  1. Dumb question, maybe, but what happened to Aaron Poreda? Why didn't he become anything?
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) Now they just went for it on 4th and 16 from the 19. Practicing game situations.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) The Pats are up 31-0 and still going for it on 4th down at midfield. Bellichick cracks me up. +1
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) Nothilng about PED's, if that's what you're asking. And even if he's scuffing the ball, which I think is what you're implying, that doesn't really explain how good he became. Dude's got talent and finally put it all together.
  5. Hamilton's been lousy defensively this postseason.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) All those advanced metrics say otherwise. All those advanced metrics are wrong.
  7. Man, this thread died in a hurry.
  8. The first was called "ridiculously long" because that's the author's tag line; it's how you know it's a Posnanski. This one being called "ridiculously long" just ain't right.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) Don't get too excited. Here's a KW quote: "That's pretty much all I'm going to say on it, because I don't know what the future holds," added Williams. "I don't know how we are going to finish. "We are driven by the revenue stream that comes in. People might not like it but it is what it is. We have to at least be able to be a break-even operation, and try to win at the same time." Better enjoy the next week or so of Manny before he decides to take another vacation, as he and Mark Teahen, may just cost you Konerko. At least KW finally clarified the break even operation. Notice he said "at least". I'm sure the Sox more than break even every year after seeing those leaked financial documents for other teams.
  10. I don't like to say that athletes are role models but Wes Welker is an amazing human being. Dude worked his ass off to get back into the game and on his first play back he gets a five yard catch and scores two touchdowns.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 10:57 AM) Joe Posnanski with a great analysis of the season and splits of J4L's man-crush. Came in to post that. Good to see another Joe Posnanski reader.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 5, 2010 -> 05:48 PM) Time to start cheering against the Rays! They have a 7 game WC lead on us, but they have 3 with the Red Sox now, then 3 with the Jays, then 3 with the Yankees, then 3 with the Angels, then 4 with the Yankees again. Need the Yanks to take 6 of 7 from them and the Red Sox and Blue Jays to beat them around a bit too. We need to stay hot and hope to get some help from Twins and Rays opponents! It's delusional to think that the Wild Card will come out of the central, come on.
  13. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 06:00 PM) Where is the bullet point about his impressive .295 OBP and .729 OPS on the road? Great post.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...blings1000902_1 Pratt, this is what I was talking about when I brought up Sabermetrics. Thanks, although what you're talking about contains what I was talking about.
  15. WSI is as lousy a message board as I can imagine. And while I've had dustups with some people here, I love SoxTalk (even though I don't post much anymore).
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) Sabermetrics will have come a LONG way if Felix were to win it. Liriano and Weaver both deserve serious consideration as well. Unfortunately, we still have old, crusty voters who forever think it's 1950 and refuse to acknowledge that the game is forever evolving. I expect CC to win it. Felix is not a sabermetric candidate: he's a horse with the second lowest ERA, most Ks, most IPs, etc. etc. Conventional stats. I don't think he'll win, but damn, he should.
  17. It will be a crime if Felix doesn't win the CY this year, but I don't suppose he will.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:12 PM) I know the Chicago media would hate to hear this, but the Tigers announcers just said that many of Manny's former teammates say he's one of the best teammates they've had. Come on fathom, you and I both know that's just crap.
  19. Manny's probably not available to pinch-hit tonight, probably doesn't want to pinch-hit.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 06:53 PM) Yeah, I'd hate to give him up. He's a 45 homer guy easy if he puts it together. There's no such thing as "a 45 homer guy easy," whether or not it is someone who is putting it together, needs to put it together or has it together.
  21. So, I'm at work and I go to a Subway restaurant downtown. The lady ahead of me is on her cellphone and orders a Philly Cheesesteak. She then explains to the person she's on the phone with that the serve only put in a container and a half of meat. "Oh, so usually it's two?" she says to her person on the phone, then starts tapping on the little glass separator. "Excuse me, miss? I want that extra half-container." The weird thing isn't just her haggling over how much meat she's going to get but the fact that she's on the phone consulting with someone about it.
