QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) Ed is furious at the pitch selection as well is being irrate Gathwright did not steal second. After 3 pitches 2 outs, a walk, and 3 hits 4-2 Royals. The arm slot is killing Ed Count is toast, why is he still putting on cleats plese DL him and hope he retires or his wife appears in a Snapped episode on Oxygen...... Ed wants to fight Gathwright after pounding his chest after making a catch. I had to Google "Snapped" and once I did, damn. That is classless. -
Float his name around as being available and see who offers what. You get something worth biting on, you bite.

Michael Vick Accepts Plea Deal Per ESPN

That's it, too, I'm sure. -
QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) Casey has been playing alot of LF this year, but yeah, his average is .236 mostly from a terrible 1st half. I sure wish the Cubs would have taken Pods Then who would Chicago's twelve year old girls cheer?

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 08:05 AM) add me to this. It's kind of sad how some media members, particularly Michael Smith who's filling in for mike and mike this week, are starting the "overreaction" bandwagon moving. It makes me sick. I'll bet many of the people who are in his favor have been involved with dogfights or would be if they had the chance. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 10:54 AM) Yup. it has been said that a regular pitching schedule is actually easier on the arm than a closers role. Also Bobby has proven that he is now a pitcher and not a thrower. He has at least 5 usable pitches. We have to trade someone in our rotation and have a glaring hole possibly. It makes a little bit of sense IMO. 1. Who closes? 2. It has also been said that pitching a full season is worse for your arm than closing and there's a big debate to be had over what is worse for your arm. I doubt Jenks to the rotation is even an option.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 12:47 AM) Which is why Gillick came right back and dealt with Kenny again at the deadline? Let's face it, the Phillies made the deal at the Winter Meetings. There was no rush to get the deal done before a deadline or anything. They could have done more homework, and they chose not to. Starting pitchers, especially guys that have a lot of mileage on their arms, can experience an injury at any given time. Unfortunately for Gillick, he got burned. But he also got Freddy at a discount considering his velocity and struggles in mid 06', and probably thought it was a risk worth taking. I highly doubt he has a White Sox helmet sitting on his desk and a Kenny Williams voodoo doll in his top drawer. I highly doubt I said that he did but maybe I'm mistaken.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 22, 2007 -> 10:06 AM) Personally I think Bobby should be given a chance to compete for a spot in the rotation next year. You're serious, though.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 11:19 PM) Or how you slob all over Schuerholz..... Better than never saying anything critical about anyone unless they're criticizing Gavin Floyd. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 11:17 PM) You're damn right I'm worried about them winning the World Series. They find a way to win games, and in the terrible NL, they have as good of a chance as anyone if Zambrano gets back on track. Don't worry though, there's no chance they can play your Braves in the first round. My Braves won't be skinning the Cubs in the playoffs this year, unfortunately, though I still think they've got as good a chance as any of the other NL Wild Card teams of making the Wild Card. I still don't really buy the Cubs. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) Great, now we have to hear 100 stories about how a chopper through a drawn-in infield was a work from above. I told my brother before the pitch they were leaving way too big of a hole between first and second. It's better than hearing about how worried you are that the Cubs will win something, anything. -
Santana or Escobar are my horses right now. I'm rooting for Johan, though.

Come on Tim, please do this. -
PS: you meant Doogie Howser.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 07:27 PM) Yet somehow he brought back Crede, Pods, Cintron (elbow surgery late last year,) provided no back up for Thome and of course, signed Darin Erstad. KW isn't quite the Dookie Howser just yet. Cintron's elbow wasn't supposed to take him out this long, Podsednik was a cheap alternative to spending money and he's a fan favorite, Crede he really had no choice with and people had mixed opinions on what rehabbing would do for him, Thome is Thome and you might not have expected him to be so bad -- besides, he's got a full NTC -- and Erstad is a GRINDER
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 07:21 PM) Frankly I think that KW knew what was wrong with FG when he traded him, and thats why he jumped at that offer. I think so too, like Sirotka, and I'll bet it doesn't make for a popular man with GMs and probably limits his relationship with many of them for obvious reasons. (John Schuerholz used to keep a Giants batting helmet on his desk when he was with the Royals because they'd traded him Vida Blue but didn't clue him in on Blue's drug problem so it shamed him and the organization when it came out and so Schuerholz wanted to remind himself to never deal with whoever was GM of that team at that time. And I think that that attitude is prevelant, rightly so, because you're supposed to share that kind of a thing. It's sort of a gentleman's agreement.)
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 07:11 PM) Does anyone think KW may take a flier on Freddy Garcia this winter? He had a rehab assignment Saturday. He probably would have been better off having surgery, but I'm sure will be available cheap, and probably wants to get back to hanging around Ozzie. I've thought that. Wouldn't it be kind of funny?

AJ + Hall wouldn't even be that hot if he hadn't been injured. -
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) I have my doubts about a lot of things. I also know the organization is not stupid and they see the same things we do ... and UNLIKE most of us here, have a basic understanding as to why. There's so much more behind the scenes that we're not privy to, and certain decisions are made with some of you armchair GM's going WTF but most of the time, there's a purpose behind it. We'll have to wait until February to know what's going to be our chances for 2008. I think we're going to see some positive changes, but I'm not going to sit here and speculate who goes and who comes at this point. They just need to fill the holes. I, for one, don't know that the organization is not stupid. I have serious doubts after the Gavin Floyd and Nick Masset debacles, after Day's plusplus slider never materialized, after we gambled away Chris Young with the thought that BA could be a respectable player, at least, and we wouldn't be left naked in Centerfield. We've got some seriously bad scouts and a lot of them have to be fired.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) Very true. Hey you guys have done interviews and I'm trying to line some up. I need a service that will record a phone call that I can then upload to the web. Maybe Skype.

I've doubted it since, like, May.

The Braves have an Australian presence. I wouldn't really waste my time there. Latin America is the answer.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) You can't trade Garland because he's a winner. Look at how many games he won from 2005-2006. I think more than Halladay or Carpenter. Yeah he sure got robbed in the Esteban Loaiza deal. Same with Sirotka
