  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) Jon Garland never shows enthusiasm on the mound. It's been something that's frustrated a lot of Sox fans over the year. Judging by where the two pitches ended up, there's no doubt that Garland tried his best to hit Kinsler in the leg. I know that. I just meant it looked like less than usual.
  2. I liked SoxMachine's take on it (and no, I'm not paid to promote him): Then he goes on to say that it'll basically be a wash. I don't agree, as I think Alomar's an upgrade, but I thought his view was funny.
  3. I was about to post that. This part is so sad to me: Oh Widger! I hope everything works out for him.
  4. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) Do you mind rehashing that? I dont remember that match I read about it earlier, actually, but not the full details, so if someone else obliges, please do. Basically, he no-sold the Spear.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:16 PM) Of course Garland was told to hit the batter. Any talk about it being otherwise is just trying to make it look like our pitcher wasn't ordered to throw at someone (and save face with MLB). Did anyone else notice the lack of enthusiasm in Garland's demeanor in the throw? Some people are saying, "Sometimes you miss, blah blah blah, he tried," but I thought it was clear in his demeanor that he wasn't trying very hard, and wouldn't mind missing.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 06:01 PM) I've been thinking of this since this thread went up, and the only guy that really sticks out to me is Mark Buehrle. What about him?
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:09 PM) Yes, I saw the Garland clip again on SprotsCenter earlier. They showed a brief clip of it, and you see Dye/Thome walking closer to it in order to break it up if needed. Yeah, I noticed that. Thome's awesome.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 08:55 PM) I think it's safe to say that no one is safe on this roster right now. For some crazy reason, I think that KW's comments about forgetting about 2005 were directed at either our LF or SS. Uribe is safe. Maybe Podsednik isn't, but there's no way Uribe is going to go. Was the Garland-berating shown on Sportscenter? It'll probably be on BBTN or on Sportscenter later, right? Uh, I'd intended to post that about Garland in the Sox Catch-All, but accidentally clicked this, so I'll just leave it unless someone else decides it's better elsewhere.
  9. I love Regal, but I'd been under the impression that he was dead, and since I've stayed out of touch with wrestling...
  10. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) Not sure if this was posted anywhere else, but Kenny was on am 1000 before the game [around 12:35-12:55pm] and basically mentioned Alphonso Soriano. In essence KW said that he could very well make a trade for an impact guy to prevent competitors from getting him and then turn around and trade him for more than he's worth. This is Soriano in a nut shell. With Det, NYY looking to land him, getting him and then dealing him to a NL team or to a team like Sea that are a long shot to make the playoffs, the sox could fill holes and keep the main competition weaker. It'd be nice if we could pick up Soriano and then trade him for pieces, but there's no way we could do it, I don't think, without wounding our team. We'd have to give him up, and Pods/McCarthy might have a lot to do with it; if not them, then McCarthy and a bunch of prospects. What would we get trading to Seattle -- Ichiro? It'd be awesome, but I doubt it.
  11. Frank Thomas got ejected today, in the As-Tigers game. Got into it with the umpire over strikes.
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) Garland was fantastic again today, and as much as I know the guy is a bench player and anything more is a stretch, let me express my appreciation for Mackowiak busting his butt down the line on routine groundballs. He's the only White Sox that does it every time, and today he got himself on base because of it. Thome does it, too, but I'm with you.
  13. I'll always respect Widger, and I enjoyed him (05), but I can't say I'm too devastated. I don't think I ever called for him to be DFA'd, and that was mainly a personal sign of respect on my part.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) Ozzie just said that KW is looking at getting someone to help our offense, as well as a back-up catcher. From what he said, it sounds like we're close to making some trades. I'd be surprised if we get anyone much more substantial than a reliever and a backup catcher. Soriano would be all right, for the right price, but if they want BMAC, they can go to hell.
  15. I move that a different Admin start a gamethread per day until we lose, for luck!
  16. Good job Thornton and Gload, too, today's forgotten heroes. Podsednik, Gooch, good job.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) Sure there is. Blalock hits .100 pts less against lefties. Thornton dominated him last night. A shutout would have been great, but a win is more important right now. Also, I believe Blalock has done a lot of damage vs Garland in his career. I'd have trusted Garland to get those two, but you really can't go wrong. SIT DOWN B----! This ballgame is over!
  18. I'm a huge mark for Thornton, but there's no reason not to let Garland finish it off.
  19. Why can't the swear filters be something like, "S---" instead of "spiff" and "f---" instead of fish?
  20. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) LOL. Right. Nice change of the subject. He called him that before the game, we heard about it in the post game stories after the game. DId we play a 12-hour game I didn't know about? That's enough, isn't it? I'm sure fathom isn't making s--- up.
  21. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) Is this another one of your sources? Troublemaker.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) or how about Garcia to start the game yesterday. Ozzie had said he'd hit their guys if the Rangers hit one of ours, and Pods had been hit in the 9th inning before. In no way was I trying to start a race discussion. I know, I didn't, either, I was just joking about. I was surprised that Ozzie didn't ask Freddy to do it, as Freddy's always been good about hitting people (I remember when he got Derek Lee right in the shoulder blades), but maybe Ozzie just thinks Garcia, more than any other pitcher on our team, doesn't need more baserunners!
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) Greg, not going to get in race discussion so that post was deleted. Ross didn't have the best bunt, but it got the job done. For a second I was thinking oh crap. I was kidding, for what it's worth. Vazquez wasn't asked to plunk because he was a starter and the warning had already been given. Montero? I don't know. Tracey was a minor leaguer about to leave, anyway, and Garland was asked to do it because no warning'd yet been given.
