Slightly paraphrased: This man says to me, "You need to go out on a limb for the players you support." Like he does with Daniel Cabrera. I say nothing. But then time comes to decide whether or not I trust Travis Hafner. I don't anymore. Hello Alex Gordon. Don't get too comfortable -- Billy Butler is waiting behind you. But you're the guy for now.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) Maybe I missed something, but the Swisher/Vazquez commercial was one of the worst things I've ever seen. Haven't seen the PK commercial, but the concept sounds great. I agree.

I hate the Swisher/Vazquez commercial. I love the Konerko one.

Holy s***, he strikes out a lot. I hope he calms down a little bit...!

Mutual Contempt: Obama and McCain, genuine dislike

Clinton challenged him to a bowling match. -
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 11:30 PM) Me being an Iowa homer I like, "Is this heaven, No, it's Iowa." I would actually guess that most people would say that, if polled, actually. My favorite is Crash Davis'.

Trevor Hoffman's really getting it from the announcers. And Wesley Wright is really small, or looks small.

I agree with shipps.

Jake Peavy is a bad ass.

Wow! Pardon my cynicism before -- I hope he never comes back to WRESTLE anyway, because this is as awesome a sendoff as I've ever seen. -

This will all be another joke when Flair is back in two years wrestling. -
Yes. But I thought it was classless. And he got much worse than a "mixed" reaction -- the crowd really gave it to him, sad to say.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 01:23 AM) No way, Robert Redford isnt in the book so it cant be as good

Has anyone mentioned Mr. Baseball? Good movie. And I highly recommend the book over the movie in "The Natural"

Bush, Morgan, Miller is a lot of good.

He wanted to get out soon and I don't blame him. How classless the reception was!

Mutual Contempt: Obama and McCain, genuine dislike

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 06:29 PM) GP, I'd contend that what the "genuine dislike" you are seeing doesn't really exist at all. Its the result of the moment in time when each campaign has begun aiming their cannons at each others' camps. In fact, their history shows the opposite - they have the disagreements, but they've actually worked together on multiple pieces of legislation, and ultimately, they'll probably have a much cleaner campaign than we've seen in either party's primary fight. Off-article: we view the election coming fundamentally different. I am sure that the Republican Party is going to drag either Democrat through the coals and they have plenty of ammunition to do it. The way I preface it, "This election will ruin politics for a generation of young people like McGovern in 1972 did." Of course, I could be wrong. On-article: your note is noted, but those characterizations aren't mine but the author's, and I think his argument that they do not care for one another is convincing. -
I will dunk on it.

1. Brian, you replied to the wrong post. 2. Milkman, I don't know what the thread is, but I imagine it's there, or you can ask a moderator. I don't have much else on the subject or any further knowledge. -

Article: Why John McCain Will (Likely) Be President
Gregory Pratt replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) Wait, I wasn't saying they will "bolt". They don't need to, they just need to be apathetic. Bush Sr is a very good comparison, especially his loss to Clinton. The attitude towards him after he broke his no-new-taxes pledge was as close to seditious as you can get while still technically being supportive. That said, I think McCain is doing a good enough job of pandering that he likely will avoid that problem. Bush Sr. is a better comparison in 88, I think, than 92, but I see what you mean. And I know you didn't mean "bolt" but what I mean is that in all practical effects apathy or being mild about him won't truly manifest itself, IMO. We'll see. -

If I recall correctly, LCR got banned in a thread over at SLAM. No clue what happened to Boz. Since it's asked. My Mania predictions: Finlay over JBL Kane wins the battle royal, then wins the ECW strap...even though a sentimental pick would be Dreamer. Batista over Umaga Kennedy to win MITB, I think the twist will be him cashing it in after the main event HBK over Flair it's gonna be the 'Taker Cena wins the triple threat. Mayweather/Show will have some kind of swerve that allows Mayweather to win. Essentially the same as hizzle -

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 08:52 AM) I mentioned that the far right is unlikely to work for McCain. Here's an editorial (by Brent Bozell, liberal media grumble grumble) in yesterday's WaPost that explicitly threatens that: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...8030702845.html His list of demands is, predictably, extreme and silly. They made the same complaints about Bush Sr. Ultimately, the majority will work for him and typical Republicans will vote for him. "We will bolt," a few might threaten lately, but I imagine (with an old political cartoon from the Truman age in mind) a Republican Elephant asking, "Where to, Brother?" -

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/26/dem...poll/index.html The bolded is what stands up to me. I firmly believe that Clinton and Obama are weak middle-class candidates while John McCain should be able to trounce either in a Nixonian, Reaganesque or beat soundly (though not overwhelmingly) in a Bushian-88 way. We'll see, obviously there's half a year left, but I look at Obama and Clinton and I do not see, or hear, candidates that will work.
