Buehrle named opening day starter
I thought Ozzie only liked Latinos? Buehrle definitely deserves it. Good show!

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Feb 22, 2008 -> 08:03 AM) I heard we got him to help us sign Fukodome Gold.

I'd spend the next week in Church if Sheffield called me a bad person.

Official Gavin Floyd/John Danks thread
QUOTE(WCSox @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) Garland still is anything but a sure thing. He's still getting hammered when he doesn't have pinpoint command of his sinker and two-seamer. Would you be saying that if he were still a White Sox?

Unemployed Pitchers
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 03:53 PM) me neither. But I know it pissed off the Sox The Sox don't like Boras because Selig and Reinsdorf share the same baseball-economic philosophy. There are instances where it's flared up -- Magglio, Rodriguez -- but those aren't the reasons. Just additions.

Unemployed Pitchers
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) was Bobby Hill a Boras client? Boras didnt endear himself to any general manager with the JD Drew/Phillies debacle Boras also solidified his non-negotiating status with the Sox in the original Alex Rodriguez negotiations, when KW wanted to talk to A-Rod and Boras wouldnt let him without being in the room. I don't think any agents would've granted that request.

Shooting at NIU
Warning at my school now: Nothing's going to change in my life. I will still most likely sit at the front of the room during lectures and classes. I won't be looking over my shoulder. But this does scare me on a deep level. I just figure there's nothing I can do or not do, and if something happens it'll be something to deal with then and not before. My best regards and deepest sympathies for all at NIU. I contacted all three people I know there and fortunately they're okay.

Bonds Tested Positive in 2001
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 08:04 PM) NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111 What a shock. Sad to see baseball wants nothing to with the all time HR leader, the all time hits leader, and probably the best pitcher of the 90's. Greg Maddux?

Curt Schilling might be done
In defense of the Sock and Schilling, I don't think the Bloody Sock was blown out of proportion or unnecessarily praised. It was one of the noblest, gutsiest performances in baseball history and deserved to be hailed as such, especially in the context. Boston winning the World Series was a huge deal, as it should've been. Because history and bias dictates that.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 4, 2008 -> 06:59 PM) Good interview of Paul Heyman The more noteworthy thing is that it's his first, isn't it, since leaving? And it is a damn good interview. I was hoping someone would post it!

Clemens on 60 Minutes
Why would he keep the evidence? Because Clemens is a known hothead (see Piazza, Mike), for one, and you want to protect yourself. Because anytime you are the subordinate working for a bigger party, and they are doing something wrong with you, you want some proof that they knew about it; it's a way to keep your boss from throwing you to the wolves. And no, he probably didn't manufacture this evidence to turn over to the Government. I can't say for 100% sure, but I'm 95% sure. It doesn't pass the logic test: why would he make it up knowing full well that they can test it and throw his ass into prison? I hope like hell that this turns out to be true and Clemens loses his future in baseball, like Pete Rose. I've said it before: Roger is playing a dangerous game, with these denials, and now that there is apparently physical proof he might have lost. Of course, we'll have to wait and see what these things say, but Clemens is clearly in trouble.

Hawk signs extension
QUOTE(SnB @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) as much as everyone doesn't like him.........he is white sox baseball to me. I can't imagine watching a game and not having hawk talk about catfish hunter. I find that most people like him very much, at least in Sox fandom.

Aaron Poreda
Yeah, but that's not really what he's saying. Mauer and Prior were the consensus 1 and 2; he doesn't want us to take a Jordan Danks with #8, is all.

Hawk signs extension
Another unnecessary, premature contract from the White Sox. Good for Hawk. Man's gotta get paid.

Who is dieting?
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 02:26 AM) 6'6, 225. Dec. 2006, I was at 199 and in great baseball shape. I'd love to get back down under 200 and be that lean pitching machine again. Unfortunately, eating right in college is kinda tough. I've been going to the gym pretty regularly of late, but haven't been eating to healthy...and alcohol doesn't help anything. It helps forget.

Clips of Carlos Quentin...
Just for the record on the Padilla hate -- as I understand it, Padilla has drinking problems [drinking and driving story] and a big attitude [quiet, surly], but in the interest of fairness I remember reading that Padilla was being heckled by the White Sox dugout quite seriously -- if I recall correctly, it was racial and or drinking slurs -- and that's why he hit Pierzynski, as the most vocal. [That was what I read somewhere; I think I posted it here somewhere but I don't know that for sure and can't find the article.] I don't know if it's true that they were heckling him, and I can't find the story anywhere (Pierzynski and Padilla bring up Ozzie's epithet incident or the general beaning, but a lot of stuff about Ozzie's slur). [This is probably why I can't find the article, and also it was a small one that happened way after the fact.] So, just throwing it out there that, IIRC, there's more to it than it seems. It is cool that Swisher charged him. Swisher rocks. [i'm not saying anything about whether or not he hit AJ for a reason but I am saying that usually you don't hit a guy for no reason and never as obviously as Padilla hit him so when I first read that story it made sense, especially coupled with the fact that AJ is kind of a jerk ] [Padilla is a real interesting guy; I'm no fan, but I find him interesting.] Edit: Bracketed is edited in.

Harold Baines Will Be The New Outfield Statue
Pierce isn't a baseball icon, but he is by Chicago baseball AND humanitarian standards. For where Baines is in White Sox lore, he belongs, and he is a damn fine player.
