Your favorite Presidential speeches
Gregory Pratt replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in The Filibuster
I happen to think Richard Nixon got the rawest of deals in Watergate and that whole affair will eventually stop overshadowing his Presidency, if not be criticized as having a whole hell of a lot less to do with Nixon than some might imagine. But hey, I think Richard Nixon was a great President and a great man. I'd recommend reading Nixon: A Life by Aitken. -
Thought it'd be interesting to share some of your favorite American rhetoric. I have numerous speeches I'm fond of. Probably at least one from every President. Truman especially, and Nixon additionally, are well-represented. I'll share Nixon's 1968 Convention address, which is in a lot of ways perfect for me. Edit: sorry about the long formatting, but that's how it copied.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 01:21 PM) The book sounds like it will actually be pretty entartaining. I heard an NPR piece on it yesterday and the author described some pretty humorous research studies covered in the book. One of thestudies she includes had an investigator pitting tiny polyester pants on lab mice to see what the effects were on reproduction.

Great column by DJ Gallo: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...mp;sportCat=mlb I've bolded two things that I really liked (Cleveland's, Baltimore's) for humour's sake, and I bolded the insults of the White Sox (there are two) with a reference to the Ligue brothers and an attached picture (in the article, not in this paste-up). Also: he makes fun of one of our jersey promotions, but to be fair he gives it to everyone.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) at least kerry wood just blew a save on that similar note, does Marmol get a hold still, in Yahoo! leagues? -
The Mets will be lucky to make the playoffs with that ugly rotation they've got.

Someone I know argues that the Bears would've won more than one Super Bowl in the Eighties if they had a "real coach" like Parcells or Walsh or Gibbs. But yes, I do love Ozzie. And I'd volunteer for the "follow a team and break them down" assignment but I simply don't have that kind of time right now. I'd guess he'd compare favorably with LaRussa, among others.

As the quoted text will explain, I am now writing a weekly column for Baseball Evolution with my Thoughts on The Last Week in Baseball. If no one objects, I'll link to it (in case anyone wants to see the article itself), then copy and paste it. http://baseballevolution.com/gregory/weekreview1.html

The thing that most annoys me about people in Soxdom is "Ozzie is racist!" and its more subtle incarnations. Not everyone, but those that do. Glad he spoke out about that, because there's just no evidence he has anything against white people but people say it.

I think you elect someone, and then it's up until they either resign, are impeached-then-removed or die that they leave office. I think voter recalls are dangerous.

Posing as Lenin, with Mr. Sunglasses as Trotsky. In happier times. In front of the mic, opening a fundraiser for the Vagina Monologues with a dance and then poems by Lucille Clifton. Puffier hair, on the day of my biggest competitive defeat. In a debate round. Preparing for a soccer match. ... If you can't tell, I have very different faces depending on whether or not I've shaved, what I'm wearing and what sort of hair I have at the time.

I come because it is a great place for information and I've made several "friends" here who I PM with routinely. I've met several people from this forum. That's why I come to SoxTalk overall. Before I give any more information, I'd like assurances that further feedback is free. That is: we are allowed to speak freely and openly, as long as it is with good faith, no matter if it is critical of X or Y. Actually, I am only going to share my thoughts with Gage, but want to clarify what I meant with the second "paragraph" of this post -- I didn't mean critical of any posters or moderators or Administrators.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) Yes, but that's why you don't talk to his parents. Floyd should always start in Detroit against Detroit. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) Please tell me I heard wrong...did Ozzie say Floyd did a great job last year, and he's doing a great job again this year? Nice job by Swisher out there today. I would guess that Ozzie is just being nice... but there are plenty of people who think he did a good/great job last year. -
