QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) I will go on record and bet with anybody that Floyd does not win 10 games this year. Wins are a team stat. Why don't you judge him on ERA, IP, WHIP, K? I don't want to beat up on Floyd too much, but considering our "win now" approach, his lack of options and his past record, he needs to put up something.
-
Also: Marmol or Bell?
-
Who do you keep if it is a cumulative, wins-based decision here: Hudson or Penny? I'm leaning toward keeping Penny, but I'm not sure which I want/would be better suited with. and who do you drop, if you have to pick one or the other: Lincecum or Cain? I drop Cain because Lincecum is a K machine and they're both healthy.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) It would have been a bigger story if he hadn't just signed that extension. He probably wants to play with Ozzie, but by the time this deal's up, it's likely Ozzie won't be with the Sox anymore. That Ozzie is "likely" to be gone in a handful of years is quite the prediction considering his youth, success, and this franchise's affection for him, not to mention the fans'.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 10:21 AM) He looks so much slower than I remembered. No comment on Zambrano wanting to be a White Sox?

Crosstown Showdown in Another State - March 15

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) So Hawk said KW has put together a better team than the year before in each year he's been GM. I love Hawk, but has he paid attention the last year and a half? He also said, if I heard him correctly, that now that Schuerholz has stepped out of the GM chair in Atlanta KW is the best GM in baseball. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) I do give him some credit for saying he was saying some of the same things last year and was wrong. Yeah, like the bullpen. -
Crosstown Showdown in Another State - March 15

Oh, Kenny. We have depth at every position? How about quality depth? It's fun listening to him talk, honestly -- but that stood out to me as a you can't be serious moment. -

QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) This would have been better had this burglar broken into the house with the guy and his girlfriend who's stuck on the toilet for 2 years....at least that would explain why the guy was masturbating... What do you do when you watch porn?

But I sitll believe he should be starting. Buehrle, that is.
-
Another consideration: Vazquez, if I recall correctly, has been real good against Cleveland lately and is a better match for them IMO as a power pitcher in a cold-weather climate, at the time.
-
I, for one, have always said that he is not a lock to be good or as good as last year or to improve. And he simply isn't. He needs to prove he can hit good fastballs, hard fastballs, consistently. That said, he should be better than Crede as Crede isn't that good and he's coming off back surgery, but neither one of these guys is a safe bet for anything, although I for one think it's obvious that Fields should start and Crede should be dealt.
-
Henderson would outslug him.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 11:21 PM) Actually I'd prefer Rickey to Jerry I genuinely believe he could outplay Owens.

I'm sad to see this mess.

Article: Why John McCain Will (Likely) Be President
Gregory Pratt replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in The Filibuster
I interject only to note that I do not pay much attention to most polls right now about "Hillary or Obama vs. McCain" because the Republican Attack Machine has not gotten a thorough hold of them in one case or a hold of them at all in another and it is too far away from the election to gauge anything precisely, with the numbers. No true contrasts have been drawn, and these sorts of races narrow as we get closer and after the convention. I will say that I believe the recent continuation and escalation of Clinton v. Obama is good for the Republicans. -
I don't doubt that there might be flames. It wouldn't be the first time. See, Piersall, Caray. But I didn't, and won't, read his column.

Well, we'll see. It's possible. -
Konerko quietly available
Gregory Pratt replied to That funky motion's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
As I understand it, tax issues make it a wash and there wasn't that big a difference, anyway, but I might be irrecalling. And if that isn't a word, then by God it ought to be. -

Except Konerko didn't actually sign a hometown discount. Where's Kalapse with that sheet and website? (I don't know it by heart. ) -
Report: Brett Favre to retire
Gregory Pratt replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I think this is a better article: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3276536 Goes on to note that, for the author's money, Favre, Marino and Elway belong in their own class for sustained greatness but Marino gets bounced for not winning a Super Bowl and then it's up to Elway/Favre.
