QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) AJ for Lirano, Nathan, and a 3rd guy who's hanging around AAA. One hell of a good deal for the Twins, and it's turned into a very good deal for the White Sox too. Thanks and i couldn't agree more, now that the twins have their new deal, in the very near future they're going to be good. real good.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:24 AM) He fired another gem tonight against the Angels who've really been playing better of late. He's now 4-0 with 3 starts and a 2.11 ERA. I watched him and I've got to say his stuff is truly electric. If the twinkies get Radke on track, they'll make it even harder in the central. This season is so, so far from over... yeah im glad i had the foresight to take him and Verlander for MLB 8 player fantasy challenge. Didn't the twins give up AJ to get Liriano? and if so who else did they get i can't recall. On a side note the ALC is going to have lots of talented young pitching for years to come, god i love the central.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:44 PM) Who cares, he isnt a member of this team. There are a lot of prospects who light up the minors, and get boned in the majors. BTW Jeremy Reed says hi.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) Question. Whats the Bigger sports story in Chicago Illinois? A: The SOX who are 1.5 games out of 1st Place? OR B: The Cubs who are 1.5 games out of Last Place? If you said B, you would be correct, unfortuneately. The SOX find themselves with the dubious distinction of being Champions of the baseball world, but Cellar Dwellars in regards to Media Coverage. Im sure everyone knows that other team is owned by the Tribune, which owns other newspapers and tv stations and radio stations around the country, so that pretty much explains it. Chris DeLuca does a story today, and instead of telling everyone to HANG ON, the SOX are only 1.5 games out and they can take the lead and the division soon enough, INSTEAD decides to tell everyone to HANG ON, the other team is only 13.5 games out, and they can take the lead and the division soon enough. The White SOX, despite Winning the World Series in 2005, and being only the 5th team in MLB history to lead from wire-to-wire, find themselves INEXPLICABLY lagging in attention from the Media, to a team that is currently as close to last place as the SOX are to 1st Place. ridiculous. Chicago Tribune: 4 cub stories 3 sox stories Chicago SunTimes: 6 cub stories 3 sox stories Standings as of Thursday June 1st, 2006 Priviledged, Media Owned, Media Favored, 4th place in 2005 Cubs 507 Underdogs in Chicago, Media Ignored, WS Champions in 2005 SOX 414 welcome aboard

ST Poll: Which is the most pressing need for the White Sox?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 12:47 AM) The O's are in a perfect situation. Patterson IMO is playing way over his head(I know how much hype he had, but im not sure he can keep it up) and the O's could get a kings ransom from someone in a position like the Sox. When looking at the question at hand, the pen, by a landslide. I think they are actually one really solid RHP away from turning everything around. Clemens going back to Houston really hurts the chances of Lidge being on the market, but that hasn't stoped KW in the past. If im him, I go balls to the wall to get Lidge on the southside, and give him a shot to prove himself in the postseason. He could go back to being the best setup man in the game, and the ballgame could be over in the 7th with a Thornton/Mac-Cotts/Lidge-Jenks matchup, it could make the pen very scary down the stretch. With the addition of Clemens i doubt Lidge is going to be on the trading block, but who knows; his probelms appear to be "between the ears" and i know Coop is a magician but hes definatly not a psychologist. As far as Patterson goes i think your right it prolly would cost alot, but id pull the trigger. Its a shame too because we could've had him for nothing and given him Gload's roster spot seeing how Mackowiak can play 1B. Whats more important: Having a possible 5-tool perennial all-star but not winning the WS again in the form of Anderson(note: I'm not saying we can't make a run in the post season with him, but lets not kid ourselves when was the last time a team won the WS with a CF hitting below the Mendoza line and was simply around for defense)? or Getting what could equate to a medicore/above average/possibly great CF in Corey Patterson who also has all 5-tools and would make us strong up the middle? Would you be willing to give up top prospects/Rookie e.g. Anderson & Broadway/Lumsden/Harrell/Haeger/Fields/Rogo/Sweeney? To acquire the likes of Patterson. i would because most prospects don't pan out and there exactly that, prospects; how many "can't miss" and 1st round prospects have gone bust? Personally i would rather acquire proven ML talent in the form of Patterson yes he is a career .255 hitter but at least hes got a track record, and he's only 26 years old. I remember a certain Dodger catcher who was supposed to be a ROY that alot of people wrote of, and he's currently playing 1B for this team. Here comes the Corey Patterson Love Train Again! ::Turns on Quad City Dj's "Come on and Ride It (the Train)"::Again! "come on ride the train, and ride it".....to another world series championship -

QUOTE(Chet @ May 31, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) Is our Bull Pen really that bad, or does Cliff Politte just skew it? Seriously i think Cliff Politte skews it that bad. Matt Thornton has had how many scoreless apearences now? and as that recent article has stated hes now in phase two of his project with Coop soon he will be putting hitters away with regularity. Jenks has been great when used in the appropriate situations, Cotts has been good hes posting a 2.91 ERA. I think McCarthy needs to be moved into the right handed set up man role and get more consistant work. Jeff Nelson is the ROOGY, and Politte needs to be moved into the mop up role. Uribe has proven himself at the ML level hes getting better at the plate these past two games he hasn't been swining at the first pitch as much and yesterday he actually had hit, up until today he was batting .265 in his last ten days. Anderson just looks lost and outmatched right now. He's an amazing defender but as i've stated time and time again we need a complete CF, Mackowiak appears to be cooling off a bit, and i really don't feel comfertable with him in CF. In other news Corey Patterson went 1-3 today with a single, SO, BB, SB. hes still batting .290 and has 19SB/1CS -
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 31, 2006 -> 02:02 PM) How about this. Uribe needs to pick it up. He is the vet, he is the one who has had success before. If he was hitting then we are not talking about Brian Anderson's BA. The tasmanian devil needs his leg kick back, and all is good. Then we can afford Brian to learn on the job. We need a right handed setup guy in the bullpen more to replace Polittes production more than we need someone for Brian. Our pen is more of a worry than our O right now. Cotts, Thornton and Jenks are what I trust out of the pen. Bmac needs to get more consistant. He has great great stuff. Politte needs to figure it out. Jabronis little friend Nelson is a ROOGY. Which is fine. But he is not a right handed setup guy anymore. I agree that Uribe should bring back the leg kick stat all though he is batting .265 for his last ten games, and that if he hitting even remotely decent we could afford to have Brian learn on the job, its just very frustrating watching Brian have an excellent spring training and *poof* disapear. Also having two automatic outs that kill any semblance of a rally is painful to watch. I too agree that Jenks, Cotts, and Thornton have been great out of the pen. I feel as many here have suggested Ozzie needs to move Brandon into the right handed setup role, and get him more work and politte into the mop role. Nelson is fine as a ROOGY.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) We weren't in World Series or bust mode when Crede was breaking into the majors. Also, Crede was a much more accomplished minor league player than Anderson was. Thank You. I'm growing tired of the "but we waited for Crede to devlop at the plate at the ML level" argument. We weren't defending world champs and as you stated Crede had a more acomplished Milb career, if im not mistaken he was a 2 time mvp? anyways in Kenny i trust i know hes high on Brian and im still in the kids corner but if he can't pick it up we need a complete CF simple as that. -
QUOTE(hi8is @ May 31, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) the same corey patterson who made a game saving catch last night in the 9th with 2 outs AND hit 2 homer runs? im guessing O's fans aren't booing him =) Here comes the Corey Patterson Love Train ::Turns on Quad City Dj's "Come on and Ride It (the Train)":: "come on ride the train, and ride it"

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 30, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) So, you're willing to start a guy in the majors who has never played in left and one who is shoddy defensively in left to shift to a much tougher task in center? Makes sense to me. i hope that wasn't directed at me, but if it was, i agree with you i don't think its a good idea to move fields up and put him in left, and podsednik in cf. -

QUOTE(3E8 @ May 30, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) When I heard 'Miss Murder', it hardly sounded like Davey at all. What's your biggest gripe with this release? litteraly everything. its just weak sauce. One would think that since they had 2 years to write this album and said they wrote over 100 songs for it they would be able to pick 13 that didn't suck.

The new AFI = X3: The Last Stand....FTL. I've been huge AFI fan since "answer that and stay fashionable" and i really liked their last release "sing the sorrow" but this...this is utter crap; an abomination. Glenn Danzig and Jeff Pezzati would be turing over in their respective graves if they were dead.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 27, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) I wonder if KW could get Carl Crawford. I think he could play CF. It would cost a ton, but would be worth it. I actually don't think the Sox need another CF, but a guy on the bench who hits right handed would be nice, and some bullpen help. i would love to have Carl Crawford on board, but can he play CF, i know he plays LF for the D-Rays, he has tons of speed, ...hmm. he would become pod's replacement and hes only 24. What would it cost? anyone want to take a hypothetical stab at it? My suggestion is Corey Patterson, as I've said in the "Corey Patterson" thread, if Anderson can't pick it up at the plate we need a complete CF. Mackowiak is tearing the cover off the ball as we speak but he is the definition of a streaky hitter. Lucky for us hes on a streak, but hes bad in CF, Ozuna bad. Patterson may not take the best reads on a ball but his make up speed is ridiculous and hes got a cannon, hes defiantly a + CF. I think he could handle the 8 spot in the batting order and Juan wouldn't give so many ABs away. Also it would be the second coming of the top of the order Patterson has 15SB/1CS. What would it take to get him? my guess pitching prospects along the lines of: Charlie Haeger, Tyler Lumsden and Lucas Harrell. The reason being FA pitching is at an absurd price and i don't think the O's are going to attract marquee FA talent case and point Paul Konerko. If the O's are going to contend its going to have come from within, same with the D-Rays. Anderson could go down get it togeather and possibly in the future we could see an outfield of Patterson in RF, Anderson in CF, and Fields? in LF. anyways just my $0.02

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 25, 2006 -> 08:11 AM) Let me also point out that a crowd of 15 k that is going wild circa 2002 CAN be better than a sellout crowd doing the wave during key spots and such, so I agree with the premise.......however more people=more payroll, and I'll sacrifice a few bandwagoners in the park if it gives us more money to spend, ESPECIALLY with Kenny as GM since I know in that case the money will be spent wisely. / Agree
