way to come back EJ. Man behind the dish has been calling a horse s*** game tonight.

Jesus the squeeze is real..., Suzuki should've been 1-2 then 2-2 not 3-1 and escobar should be sitting at 0-2
-
nice effort by Olt, solid double by Micah 1 out man on second

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 07:50 PM) Ump seems to be squeezing hell out of Johnson i count 4 strikes and 3 more additional pitches that were on the edge.

nice catch Avi, all though i held my breath. Great job EJ picking up your team mates and pitching over it. Ump isn't calling the outside edge and high strike so far.

I think the aside from the normal inflation of WAR the lack of young talent hitting the free agent market is having a direct impact on the inflation as well. Heyward and Upton are the only young position players that will be available this offseason. I think if you want an above average return on your money in free agency you must look east to the KBO and NPB.

Interesting take. I'm firmly in the wait and see camp but the law of independent trials is at play here. As others have said he won't fail because others before him in a similar profile have failed, he'll fail if he doesn't make his adjustments. Honestly it would be refreshing if a very athletic player that has underperformed in the minors came up and something just clicked. He cut his k rate down in the minors but also his walk rate took a dip as well. As said in that comment if everything clicks to me he screams Alex Rios( stance, long strides, swing, everything) but with possibly better defense.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 10:42 PM) I agree - they won't. He is the 2nd to best hitter, but he's not that great of a hitter. As for cost controlled - well, you'd get the value of cost-control back in trade. Have to trade something to get something. It would also be a sell=high opportunity, something that the Sox don't do. From what I've seen, if Trayce is part of this team, he should be in CF. Eaton should be in left. I went back and looked at Trayce's highlights over a few days. Swing looks pretty tight to me. Of course all I'm seeing is his hits. I don't mind Eaton in CF even with his below average defense if the sox don't have anything with Thompson; but if Trayce is the second coming of Alex Rios with the bat and an above average defender in CF that would be a huge boost for this organization. Moving Eaton to LF allows his bat and defense to profile very similarly to that of Alex Gordon especially if the second half power hitting version of Eaton is here to stay .320/.407/.479 the BABIP is unsustainable (.409) but maybe his ISO is (.160); Moving Eaton out of CF and placing an above average defender like trayce there is a swing of nearly 20-25+ in DRS seeing how Eaton in the past in left field has been an above average defender .

"he'll only ever be a 4th outfieler that crushes lefties.." his history tends to disagree.

no bueno TFT...

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 09:21 PM) Carlos will be fine. He's young and it's his first season. His defense is gg caliber. Honestly I see alot of Freddy Sanchez in Carlos and hes still incredibly young and making adjustments at the major league level. His defense is stellar, if anything micah needs to be DHing next season.

sometimes you run hot..lol

patiently waiting for Jeff to no longer be a part of this team.

Trayce misread it off the bat but has the athleticism to make the catch

on an inside 1-2 pitch..nice very nice.

Solid command of the strike zone by Thompson, nice professional AB.

Hes only 20 and a switch hitter on top of that. Power is usually the last tool to develop its even more pronounced in switch hitters. I think the sox will be aggressive and push him to AA next year. Hes also more of a natural hitter from the right side.

When looking at this team and the rebuilding effort by the front office I feel like this past offseason really set us back and honestly I don't know if what is in the system combined with the major league roster in addition to what is going to be available on the free agent market in coming years is good enough for anything more than the second wild card spot during the prime years or Sale, Quintana and Abreu. So having said that would a full on rebuild be the worst thing for this franchise? and if a full rebuild, how quickly can we turn it around and look to get back to the top of the Central. Below are Fangraphs 2015 top 50 Trade Value of which Sale, Quintana and Abreu make the cut here is the link and excerpts centered around them. So based off that we have a primitive idea of what their perceived trade value would be. If the sox are going to enter a full on rebuild they would want young major leaguers and top prospects, thats the obvious part but what isn't always obvious is what is the value of said prospects. Previously Kevin Creagh and Steve DiMiceli over at the point of pittsburgh wrote a great piece about that here I encourage everyone on this fourm to read that article when discussing potential prospects the sox should consider if they plan on going in that direction. Below are two tables from that article and comment section that are pretty telling. These tables are in regards to baseball america's top 100 list. With all that out on the table I think when weighing prospects and their value the team sending the proven major leaguer should have consideration of the obvious bust rates of said prospects and the fact that the majority usually 66% of their value comes during their arbitration years.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 10:25 PM) Which would be a bad decision. I don't think this organization is good enough at scouting and offensive development to start from scratch. I think they're ok at acquiring near ML ready talent or talent that needs a change of Scenery, there have been misses (Davidson) but there have been hits as well De Aza, Abreu, Eaton even Gillaspie to a lesser extent and the verdict is still out on Avi. This team's core competency is pitching.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:45 PM) Too bad Boston doesn't have enough to trade for Sale. Only the Cubs and the Dodgers can match his value with non-MLB or rookie talent. The Red sox have the best system in baseball right now followed by the dodgers then the rockies, the cubs have graduated a ton of talent. I think both the dodgers and the red sox make a ton of sense.

Chris Sale could bring back a franchise altering haul, and between boston with dombrowski at the head they might be willing to sake f*** the rebuild and lets reload. I feel if you move Sale though you're forced to move Quintana and Abreu as well, and eventually Robertson when the best deal presents it self and anything else in the pen. You'd be forced to play LaRoche in hopes that he can perform a Dunn and sell high at the deadline same goes for Danks and melky if he produces his second half numbers would have a lot of teams giving calls. The nice thing with moving everyone not named Eaton is that we should be able to cut our rebuild time in half and be competitive in 2-3 years with the addition of another 2-3 top ten picks to supplement the transition. Keeping eaton makes sense because he is still young and under contract for when we should be ready to compete.

8/27 Sox ( Rodon) vs. Mariners (Elias)
beautox replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in 2015 Season in Review
I can appreciate the fact that Trayce isn't getting worked over like most rookies, let alone ones that usually come through this system.
