  1. I vote Reed. He's annihilated three levels in the minors this year. 80K's and 11BB's in 55 innings. He's on a Hudson-like fast track.
  2. Addison Reed is having an amazing Hudson-like fast-track year. Gotta think the Sox will bring him up in September.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 09:31 AM) Even coming into this year honestly. And if he goes 0-4 tonight, there will be people saying it tomorrow.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) I could have swore I saw him at the futures game. Does some other team have a Gartrell? He's playing for the Braves AAA team.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 9, 2011 -> 03:39 PM) Haha. Nice stop Dorn Exactly what I was thinking. lol
  6. Morel has a .338 batting average during day games. Paulie .395 Teahen .161. Dunn .141
  7. QUOTE (gfbaseball @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 07:28 AM) Gotta love those bottom of the 9th wins, especially when the Voyagers pull it off at home. Martin Medina has a great day going 3 for 5 with a double, a run scored, and the game winning RBI. Snodgrass and Bachanov both looked good in relief. Snodgrass went 2 innings striking out 3 with no hits and not runs. Bachanov pitched the final 2-1/3 giving up two hits, walking one, striking one, and giving up no runs. Love getting GF updates!! Do you go to many games?
  8. With the addition of Santiago, the Sox 40-man now sits at 38.
  9. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 10:26 PM) He'll be the extra defensive replacement/PR/PH we'll want to put on the playoff roster as we'll only need an 11 man staff. Seriously though, do you think he can be part of the mix for leadoff options next year? Dude kinda old. Is he exceptional in the OF, or merely good? I haven't seen too much video. Don't think he'd start for a good team. Offensive game is respectable in AAA, but not sure it would translate to MLB. More likely a speedy slappy 4th outfielder type. But I think he could stick on a major league roster somewhere if he stays healthy.
  10. De Aza on fire in June... .348/.408/.573/.979 Brings his season numbers up to .308/.365/.485/.850 as of last night. And he went 3 for 5 with a triple tonight.
  11. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) Why don't we all just move on? Stop sucking up, the "mods" made the rules try to follow, if you don't agree pm a mod a talk about it, but I'm kinda annoyed at this battle and kinda miffed that a lot of posters have thrashed Jordan for stating his opinion. The subject of this thread is NOT about "rules", establishing a hard-line people can't cross, or punishing people for "sharing their opinions"... It's a conversation about reducing the FREQUENCY of over-the-top negative posts. Sharing one's opinion... positive or negative... is fine!!! But the frequency of hyperbolic (over-the-top) negative posts are in the opinions of many people reducing the quality of the board. As someone said earlier, the fact that this thread exists and is promoting a conversation on the topic where people can share their opinions... is a good example of what makes SoxTalk different and better than most boards which would have simply banned people without discussion. What people should take away from this conversation is that leadership of the board wants very badly to maintain/improve the quality of the board and involve other SoxTalk members in the process. And that the solution proposed is for members to: (a) be aware of what is considered a problem by many people, (b) take responsibility for the quality of their posts, and © avoid getting caught up in the negative feeding frenzies that have dominated the board lately. If so, then self-policing will have worked, and banning, hard-lines, etc., won't be necessary. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've seen several recommendations to close the thread... suggesting the topic has been talked out. So, I'm going to go ahead and close it. If anyone thinks I jumped the gun and believes it should be re-opened for further discussion, please pm me.
  12. Wolves’ second-round pick lied about age, should have been ineligible http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont...?urn=nba-wp5562
  13. Really depends on what you'd like to do with the site. If it was me... I'd set it up as a Wordpress blog-site. Wordpress is both powerful and very flexible. Has grown incredibly in use, so there are LOTS of free templates you can use... widgets you can add, etc. Plus you can host it on Wordpress.com for free. No hesitation in making this suggestion. In fact, I'm building a new website for my company and am using Wordpress. If you want a separate hosting company, there are several good low cost ones... each providing tools that will help you build your site. I'd start by looking at Hostgator.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 11:01 AM) I've read through the thread. And I've come to the same conclusion. Now I have to worry about getting suspended if I say something as trivial as "Adam Dunn sucks" after another 0/4, 3K game. You really don't get it. Being critical and being dramatically over the top critical practically every time you post are not the same thing.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 08:48 AM) I was the one who brought those examples up. All I said was that there was a growing trend to make statements such as "Player x is horrible at baseball," or "Player Blah is pathetic at his profession." Honestly, I don't think it is against any rule to make such a statement, but when there is a chorus of people making such statements, what has been added to the discussion? What do I take away from someone's effort to type those opinions out? Agreed. I think it's natural to see some posts like this in a thread as people vent their frustrations. The problem is that posts like these have (IMO) become the average post... with people spewing more and more negative comments like they're trying to outdo each other. That's what it seems like these days. As a result, there are days when not only do I not post... I simply stop reading game threads... and catch myself wondering why I even bother posting here anymore. And I'm a pretty hardcore baseball junkie. So, I know if it's happening to me there are lots of other people who feel the same way. Solution? People must simply be aware and take responsibility for the quality of their posts. Nothing wrong with being negative. But if the only contribution being made is bash more and louder without much substance... the board becomes much less interesting... and much more like a Yahoo or ESPN board.
  16. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 12:45 AM) Typically your reasoning would be sound but, having spent 8 years reading this board, it's different now, and the internet was just as knee-jerk 8 years ago as it is today. Jake Peavy says he's willing to pitch from the bullpen if that's what's asked of him and there are 4-5 posters who present and control the narrative that his comments meant that he knows he's washed up and can no longer start. Really? Those are the fans that this board used to make fun of, the drunken idiots who call into post-game shows or post on the MLB boards. It's what differentiated Soxtalk from other sources...there was always reasonable conversation about both positives and negatives but, no matter what, it was from folks who enjoyed talking baseball...not a gaggle of idiots who think it's pretty badass to be contrarians. Thank you. You said very clearly what I've been thinking about PHT the last couple of months.
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) Scenario, When I saw that butler was 6'7 I was shocked, because I remember him generally being the 4 and therefore I thought he was more like 6'9. As soon as I saw he was 6'7 I started to think that the Bulls may play Butler as both 2/3 because I do think he has the quickness to play the 2 and offensively hes a decent slasher. Actually, I was thinking Thibs might slide Deng down to 2 and play Butler at 3... take advantage of Deng's improved shooting. Not as a regular thing... but could be part of a great defensive alignment when needed.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) Scenario, I presume the reason why butler didnt play the 2 more was because of Marquette's love of playing 4 guards at a time? I know a lot of games he was one of the taller guys on the floor. Yes. Plus, Marquette didn't have much up front... which made Butler more valuable as a forward.
  19. Marquette alum adding my two cents... Butler is a solid role-playertype pick... offensively, he's an effective slasher who needs to improve his outside shot.... sort of a poor-man's Luol Deng. Strong defender who can defend multiple positions... 2, 3, or 4. Should fit well into Thib's system.
  20. Lots of wishful thinking until Ozzie decides to sit Pierre.
  21. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) Really though how do we know what Milledge would've done had the Sox kept him? Hasn't exactly been lighting it up in Charlotte. 162 at-bats... .235BA, .323OBP, .364SLG
  22. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 10:42 PM) You really still are hanging on to hope? Even after the interview with Buddy Bell basically said his swing didn't respond well to the coaching and reverted back to the norm? He's going to be 25 years old in less than two months, I just don't see it. Hmm... I just reread that part of the interview several times... and I'm not sure I would interpret it the way you did. Bell seems to think Danks was over-coached over the winter... and was over-thinking his approach at the plate. His recent changes don't imply that he scrapped improvements to his swing.
  23. QUOTE (bulokis @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 10:17 PM) Great win. But why is Ohman still with the team? Relievers who are left-handed and have a pulse usually find their way onto major league rosters.
  24. Curveball looking good early tonight. A good sign.
