Athletics (Braden 5-7, 3.77) @ White Sox (Danks 11-7, 3.23)
scenario replied to LittleHurt05's topic in 2010 Season in Review
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 09:13 PM) Can't link it right now, but KW had some absolutely glowing reviews about Viciedo in Phil Rogers' article on chicagosports.com Link "I was not trading Gordon Beckham,'' Williams said. It's an even better sign that teams did not even ask about Viciedo, who the Sox project as a game-changing power hitter at either third base or (post-Konerko) first base. He's in the second year of a four-year, $10-million contract and is valued higher than it might have seemed heading into the weekend of the trade deadline. "People know how we feel,'' Williams said, explaining why no teams asked for him. "He's 21 years old. A talent like that will be a major force in the league. I'd like you to find one or two (prospects) at his level who can do the things he can do, are as explosive. The ball comes off his bat. People understood we weren't going to (consider trading him)." -
Phegley back in the lineup for Winston-Salem. That's a good sign. Wasn't expecting to see him back so soon.
-
It will just make it all so much sweeter when we beat the Yankees to win the AL Championship.
-
May not mean anything but... ESPN's Buster Olney tweets that the Dodgers took on about $3MM with all their deadline moves. With the financial issues they've got, maybe it will cause them to re-think the Manny situation in mid-late August... Especially if they take a step back in the standings. Worth keeping an eye on possibly.

The one thing that we'll have to see a change in relatively quickly... Is the number of wild pitches Jackson throws. Was leading the NL in that dubious category if I recall.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 04:27 PM) Did Jackson suffer at all from Arizona's awful bullpen and inherited runners scoring? And their sorry defense.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) please share So far a rehash of what we've already heard/read... New GMs with a different way of doing business.. Wish we could have added an impact bat.. Felt like we improved our pitching... Weren't going to make changes that would weaken our current team... Wouldn't get rid of an up and comer (Viciedo) for a guy who might only be here two months
-
You can always get a deal done if you're willing to dramatically overpay. But that's no way to run a ballclub. Trading Viciedo to get a rental bat would have been stupid. So we didn't do it. Get over it people.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) Who was the AA pitcher? Corey Kluber - a 4th round pick of the Pads in 2007. From MLBTR... Kluber, 24, has a 3.45 ERA in AA with 10.0 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9. The Padres selected the right-hander in the fourth round of the 2007 draft and have eased him through the minor leagues. In 122.2 innings this season, the 6'4" starter has allowed just 121 hits. Antonetti says the Indians like Kluber's four pitch mix and low-90s fastball.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:35 PM) Not to mention that we'd be relying on Harrell as our #5 in a tight division race. Moving Jackson at this point would be a mistake, IMO. Torres would be the 5 if we dealt Jackson. Harrell was only called up because Torres pitched the night before.
-
The cost to acquire Jake Westbrook? One AA-pitcher. (That's what the Tribe got for him.) And he agreed to reduce his trade bonus to help get it done.
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) heyman just quoted KW as saying we WILL get a bat - probably dunn - but SOMEONE for sure. EDIT: Haha jumping to conclusions - said yesterday by a friend of KWs. means nothing. I will be sad if we have to give up Viciedo for a rental. I'd rather just install him as DH and say screw it.

11:35pm: The Dodgers asked the White Sox for Dayan Viciedo in exchange for Ramirez, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com on Twitter. The Manny market is heating up, according to Yahoo's Tim Brown on Twitter. The Rays, White Sox and a mystery team are all involved. The Dodgers are considering dealing Manny, according to Brown, who explains that the Dodgers are not shopping him. The left fielder is said to be open to a trade. A mystery team involved? LOL. Boras is a piece of work isn't he? Funny that the only time the words "mystery team" are heard in deals is with his clients. I'd say wait it out. He won't get moved before the deadline. And the Dodgers will move him for money in a waiver deal later.
-
Hey... maybe we should trade for Ted Lilly and then flip him to the Dodgers for Ramirez.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 11:59 AM) I'm good with it...anything would be an upgrade over seeing Kotsay. I just hope we don't trade Viciedo. Send them Marquez in the deal and maybe you could finally let go of your Swisher trade angst.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 11:52 AM) Why is he on the DL? That's what he does when he doesn't feel like playing.
-
QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 11:43 AM) No f'ing Manny Ramirez. He is a cancer. We're not marrying the guy. He's a freaking rental. A HOF RBI machine. Put him in the middle of our lineup and watch what happens to our playoff/world-series odds in Vegas.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 11:41 AM) Please get Dunn!! I don't want Manny. Please get Manny. Dunn will cost us Viciedo. With the Dodgers, this is simply a deal of how much money we're willing to take on.
-
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) This is quickly shaping up to be a disappointing deadline. Nah. Don't be disappointed. Not giving in to some other team's ridiculous demands is a good thing. There will be opportunities for waiver deals after the deadline. Keep in mind that our biggest trade bargaining chip right now is Viciedo and he would definitely be gone if we trade for Dunn. I think it could be a blessing in disguise to have things fall through... give Dayan more time to persuade the Sox that he's a keeper.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) I've filled my car up with BP the last 2.5 years. If I change suddenly will it damage the car? Is Phillips 66 a good brand? Thanx. I really want to stop going there but don't want to freak my car out. Only if you have a japanese car... and fill it up on Tuesdays... then you're screwed.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) Bernstein is just so incredibly arrogant for the amount of knowledge he has. Love to listen to him talk about football. Very knowledgeable. Hate to listen to him talk about baseball. Completely clueless but acts like he knows what he's talking about.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) And if you look a little deeper than that...that is produced by him having good Augusts in 2007 and 2008. He did not repeat a good August in 2009; July was better than August for him last year. So, he's had 2 good augusts and 1 bad august. His August numbers are just his best month because he's been flat out bad in every other month...and particularly bad in September. Meh. The 'bad' August you're referring to was 4.45 ERA in 2009. So, over his career, his ERA during August is 3.26. Which is not just good 'because other months were bad'. Hell, let him pitch in August only as far as I'm concerned as long as it helps us THIS August.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Look at EJax's stats this year, and his historical second halves. Hes been pretty bad. But..... dig a little deeper. Historically, August is his best month.... By a longshot.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) That didn't stop us from killing him towards the end of '08. Take away Jackson's first half of '09, and he's been very mediocre. I think Jackson is more Floyd-like than Javy-like. Javy had great control. But no nads. Jackson has power-stuff but has trouble harnessing it. Coop fixed Floyd. Let's hope he can do similar things for EJax.

As much as everybody is groaning about the tension.... this is great ****. Prime time drama is nothing compared to this. Come on KW... deliver the goods!! Meanwhile, it's like an accident on the side of the road... Not sure we want to see the result, but can't help watching.
