  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 01:22 PM) Detroit can take on some huge salaries though You mean on top of their current $133M payroll?
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 01:37 AM) You know what would be absolutely crazily awesome? If Reed decided suddenly to live up to his potential (well, that he had) and went to RF while Q DHed. It'd be like Freddy or Pods, yet about 1000 times less likely and 10000 times more awesome. Actually it would go like this... He gets called up... has about a 2 week hot streak... then goes back to sucking... Ozzie sits him... and we'd have a series of flaming poster arguments about why he's in Ozzie's doghouse, why Ozzie should be fired, etc.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 12:08 PM) Is it time to panic if Hudson lays another egg at Seattle? No. But I'm sure some people will.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 08:07 AM) But if this team is in the playoff hunt...the question changes from "Is he ready for the majors" to "is he better than Threets and Williams". Since Williams looked like he belonged in single A ball...it's plausible that Sale could be an upgrade even if the answer to your question is no. Exactly. I think the team wanted to see how well he commanded his fastball and changeup before promoting him. And they must have really liked what they saw. A pitcher who can command a 95mph fastball and a plus changeup can pitch in anybody's major league bullpen if he has the right mental makeup.
  5. Minneapolis has a great music scene. Lots of clubs with great bands.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 07:10 PM) If Cox hated Escobar that much, how much would he have hated Alexei? Why? Escobar's problem was attitude.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) Like...? Accept the fact that he can't hit major league pitching and turn him into a reliever like Santos.
  8. My guess is that Escobar must have really pissed somebody in the Braves organization off with his attitude. Link
  9. Take out the Detroit game and see how the numbers look.
  10. I was dumbfounded at the pitch calling for Thornton. Fastball... fastball... fastball. In an all-star game, the odds of guys being able to turn on a fastball are pretty good... especially if they know what's coming.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 09:32 AM) The idea of using Sale as a 5th starter this year is terrible. I think the odds of that happening are extremely low. They're worried about his innings. But having him available as a reliever could be very interesting.
  12. He hits the ball extremely hard.
  13. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 07:35 PM) Well Detroit's is brutal, they still have Texas (5), Tampa Bay (7), Boston (3), LAA (3), and NY (4). That is 22 games out of the Division vs winning teams all in the hunt. Minnesota's is more like ours, which is why it is nice that we have a few games on them. They only have Tampa Bay (4), LAA (3), and Texas (7). 14 games. Add Toronto into the mix and it's even more stunning. By my count (and anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Sox play a total of 13 games in the second half against "good" teams from outside our division: Yankees (3); Angels (3); Boston (7) The Twins play 18: Toronto (4); Texas (7); Tampa Bay (4); Angels (3) The Tigers play 29: Texas (5); Tampa Bay (7); Toronto (7); Boston (3); Yankees (4); Angels (3) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Inside the division games remaining... Sox vs Twins (13 ) Sox vs Detroit (10) Twins vs Detroit (6)
  14. Another little stat... We're a major league best 20-9 in day games.
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) I wonder why Carlos Torres was used out of the pen? Tuning up for his all-star appearance this week maybe?
  16. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) alexei Ahhh.... I forgot Omar started at SS today.
  17. So... if Beckham or Lillibridge got hurt on a play in the next two innings... who would finish the game at their position?
  18. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) Lillibomb for a double. 5-5 with 7 RBI's as a pinch-hitter since getting called up.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) OK time for me to make a negative comment. Those kids singing God Bless America were bad !! Yikes. I'd almost rather listen to Roseanne Barr.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) I've got to agree with you here. I specifically remember some thread where the majority of posters were actually claiming that after 42 games or so, at 7.5 games back of the Twins, we were already incapble of making that ground up over the remaining 120 games. Now obviously no one can claim that they foresaw this sort of run happening, but the Twins' stumbling made us getting back into this very possible without playing .800 % ball for a month. Just going 18-12 would have gotten us back into this thing. What some of us were arguing is that over the course of 120 games, a LOT of different scenarios could occur which could lead to us being in a competitve position before the end of July or August, making it absolutely pointless to start dumping players before the end of May or June. Exactly. You said it better than I did. Thank you.
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 04:58 AM) That's crap logic. The White Sox were awful to a point where it was very tough not to be down on this team. Anyone outside of Sin City Sox who said they saw an insane run like this is lying. It's not like people (like myself) who gave up on this team were not operating from a burden of proof. It's not ridiculious to assume that in times of trouble people would prefer to jump ship, instead of getting their hopes up for something that is very unlikely to happen. Give me a freaking break people. Suggesting "mailing it in in May is ridiculous" is NOT the same thing as saying I thought we'd go on an insane 24-5 run. THAT's crap logic. The point is that bailing less than 2 months into the season is ridiculous. Period. Don't work so hard to justify it.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) eh anybody who expected they'd get THIS hot is just lying. They are as good after losing the series to Cleveland in June as they were bad before it. Oh, I agree that nobody thought we'd get this hot. But it's still illustrates why it's ridiculous for people to want to mail in the season in late May or early June. And there were quite a few people who did.
  23. I'm too lazy to look them up, but I'd love to go back and read some of those "our season is over, we suck, we'll never catch the Twins" posts that cluttered the board before we got rolling.
  24. OT but notable... Travis Wood has a perfect game through 7 innings for the Red against the Phils.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) Will Paulie make the White Sox Hall of Fame? Absolutely.
