Calling all Soxtalk minor league gurus.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) FWIW... As for our team ranking, the Sox will be one of the 3 worst. FWIW, I think you're wrong. -
Morneau transferred to the 60-day DL to make room for Matt Fox, a AAA pitcher called up to start against the Rangers.

I know it's popular to bash the farm system, but it's really not that bad. Yes, we're weak at the upper levels due to trades and some poor picks by the old regime. But one more draft pretty much flushes that out. Fact is that we've come a long way. If you think I'm wrong, go back and look at the last 3 years of draft results of other MLB teams and compare. -
QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) Is Danks too old for the AFL or does he just need to get healthy? He doesn't need the AFL. He needs to get healthy. Then go back to AAA next year and work on cutting down his strikeouts.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 10:22 PM) Where the hell was all of this yesterday? Seriously, this is getting old. Are you going to come out from your Bobby Jenks defending slumber every time he gets a save and then when he blows one, you'll crawl back into your cave and say nothing? I'm not backing every one of greg's Jenks loving posts, but... The attacks were over the top tonight. And the fat f*** comments have to stop.

QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:39 PM) That's P Gregory Infante, does anyone have any info on him? Rocket for an arm. High 90's fastball. Over 100mph several times this year.

I'm more concerned that Manny is ready to play against Boston. Not sure we need him against Cleveland.
-
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) I would rather face the Twins at their park. You are living up to your name.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) #mlb #dodgers GM Ned Colletti on moving trading Manny Ramirez: "Not inclined to move anyone so long as we have a chance.'' - Nightengale Weak positioning by Colletti. They're 11 games out with 3 teams in front of them. The Tigers, A's, Rockies, and Angels are closer to first place than they are. I know he needs to make things look a little better to in the hopes of squeezing a decent prospect out of the Sox, but... They have no real chance. Time to give it up Ned.
-
I don't think we'll end up giving up ANY prospects in the deal, unless LA kicks in cash. If the Sox claim him, the Dodgers are not going to pull him back and eat $4M. They will let the Sox have him.

Since I think of the Sun Times as only about 1/2 a step up from the National Enquirer... I'll wait until other sources confirm.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) Can't believe Flowers will go to AFL. What's the point? The AFL isn't just for development. When you go to AFL games they are loaded with scouts. Some days it seems more scouts than fans. So, teams use it to evaluate specific players, make decisions about them, show case them for trades, etc.

QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) Kyle Bellamy! haha He lost his control somewhere on the trip between Winston-Salem and Birmingham this summer. He was playing great. Now he couldn't find the plate with a GPS.
-
Threets is almost a lock for the lefty slot. My vote for a potential surprise righty pick... Miguel Socolovich
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 08:04 PM) Simple question: Am I the only one that thinks spending 4 million on Manny would be an absolute waste of money? It would be a great use of $4M if he plays anywhere close to what he is capable of for the next two months.

I'm a little concerned about us sending a guy whose arm hurts out to start more games. Has he told anybody his arm is sore?
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) I was going to guess burrito. A week old burrito
-
Can anyone recall a more gut-wrenching few weeks?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 07:08 PM) Am I the only one who remembers the mid to late 80's? No. I went to some of those games. -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 12:44 AM) Infante was hitting 102 and 103 regularly tonight. Holy Schnikes. I don't care if the gun is off a little bit. That's serious heat.

De Aza is playing like an all-star against right-handers this year. (.339/.406/.484/.890 in 186 at-bats) But he is completely and totally useless against lefties. (.202/.260/.292/.553 in 89 at-bats) Might have some use as a September call-up.

SOX @ Twinkies Danks (12-8 3.19) vs. Baker (10-9 4.76)

When Thome played for us, everyone on the planet knew he was practically an automatic out when a lefty reliever threw him offspeed stuff that tailed away. But now he's playing against us and what do we throw him? Fastballs over the fat part of the plate. ****. We deserve to lose for being stupid. -
Duensing has had 5 starts. I think it's a little premature to say he's completely stabilized their rotation. Slowey getting hot after a rough start has had more to do with their recent pitching success than Duensing.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 09:48 PM) You'd have to bring in Castro and AJ on one-year deals, telling them they should be happy to have big league jobs. Fixed
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 09:37 PM) I have no faith in Ozzie to actually use a platoon correctly. I agree with you about Flowers, and have little doubt he'll be traded this offseason. Flowers isn't going anywhere. He's pre-arb. He has options left. He's only 24 years old. We have no other catching prospects in the high minors. And he's having a sub-par year. It all adds up to him having greater value to us than we could get in trade.

Compared to other GMs, I think Kenny's record for getting value in deals, not making a huge error, etc., looks pretty damn good.
