Dick Allen replied to justBLAZE's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 28, 2015 -> 02:41 PM) They removed it. A Meniscectomy is a removal. Just the part with the tear. Gar said they shaved it off. -
Shades of MB56 ten years ago. That season went pretty, pretty well.

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 28, 2015 -> 09:12 AM) I heard a report saying it was just a ten minute procedure. That kinda surprised me. You would figure with DRose involved, a 10-15 minute procedure would take a few hours. All in all, this was very minor. He was starting to shows some really nice signs before the All Star break. I am trying to be optimistic, but you have to figure his injuries aren't just going to suddenly go away. I think a positive is the organization has to know now they won't be able to count on him being what he was for long stretches, and have to figure movimg forward he is probably a 60 game a year guy at most as a 30+ minute player. They can act accordingly. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) If you did this for a few years for multiple teams, yes I would, and that maybe there was a flaw in your ability to project it per season but that, given a 324 game stretch, you were spot on, I'd say your analysis was very good and would be interested in reading how you came to those conclusions. If I made a 2 year projection at the beginning, I would agree, but year to year with teams that change, to say spot on is silly. Once you are innaccurate, to look spot on, you can't get more accurate, but be innaccurate some more. The projections are fun to look at, and brings up discussion, but to say they are accurate isn't right. It is OK advanced stats is no more accurate in telling you how a season will unfold, than any ither way. If you knew, it would be boring.

White Sox getting $3.443 million for Int'l pool in 2015-16

Aren't the Dodgers supposed to go like the Yankees last year? -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 11:13 AM) 10 years of team performance versus projections This is an awesome article and those who question projections should find this to be a fairly informative read. They are imperfect and are not always right, but they aren't incredibly wrong, especially considering it's something that has yet to happen. Also of note...dis graph Over the last 5 years, the White Sox have actually underperformed their projections by 1 game, which means they've been pretty much spot on. If I underestimate their win total by 10 this year, then overestimate their win total by 10 next year, would you consider me spot on?

Vince Coleman has Sox itching to step on gas
Dick Allen replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Technique can be taught, but if you are really going to steal a ton of bases, you have natural speed, some natural instinct, and you have to be pretty tough with a high pain tolerance. Guys that steal a lot get pretty beat up. Vince Coleman's pointers aren't going to make Adam Eaton a 75 SB guy. They can help for sure. Rickey Henderson was every bit of a freak as a baserunner as Nolan Ryan was as a pitcher. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 1h1 hour ago Friend: and mentor: Josh Hamilton should retire from baseball for his own well being. #Angels http://usat.ly/1BBHJyy Makes sense if playing worsens his chances at staying sober. He probably is go to go in the cash department. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) Scott Merkin, the Sox MLB.com beat writer and a good barometer of how the team sees guys, wrote a full article in the fall predicated on the idea of him being the guy but Johnson not wanting to take if for granted. Bruce Levine (whom I dislike as a writer but he's close to the teams) specifically said that management sees him as the guy. Then there are the facts other have said - he was hinted as a September call-up last year, for example. It's been pretty obvious for a while they see him as the guy, either now or very soon. Yes, and either Merkin, Hayes or Levine reported last September that the 2B job was Johnson's to lose.

QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 05:31 AM) I never read or heard any details, but the word out there was he was a party boy. I guess you can't hit the big city lights every nite and still be on your game. Too bad, he could resist everything but temptation. thanks, douglas They always said the hardest part of the game for Mickey Mantle was the bottom of the fifth.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) Any chance they decide they can use Sanchez, Beckham, and Bonifcacio as their bench, basically declaring that they all will "figure out" how to play OF spots? I would guess they would want either Sanchez or Johnson, playing every day in AAA vs. riding pine in Chicago.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 01:43 PM) The White Sox are about to change the feel of U.S. Cellular Field to that of an NBA game to reach a "younger audience". It's really not that different. They have done an NBA style for years. They just hired a guy from the Miami Heat to take over the game day duties. I wasn't at the opening ceremony at Soxfest, but supposedly that was his first production with the team, and probably a sign of what you can expect.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 11:18 AM) This is how I feel too. I feel like if Johnson shows he can handle it this Spring, it'll be his. If he can't, they'll go with Sanchez. That's what I think as well. Just because he wasn't much at AAA shouldn't play a role. Many guys have gone from AA to the major leagues. I think the Sox will be very dissappointed if Micah has a poor spring and winds up in AAA. Now is a good time to break him in. He can hit 9th. I am worried about the glove.

It's nice to know Carmelo is saying a reason he didn't sign with the Bulls is because of Rose's injury history. There was no guarantee he would play for a championship. Of course he winds up injured himself, playing for the team with the worst record in basketball. Carmelo should join the circus as a clown.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 26, 2015 -> 10:28 AM) Tufanos or Fontanos haven't decided yet. You can't make a bad choice there.
-
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 10:11 PM) I think that was expected. It is going to take time for the team to get use to Brooks and Kirk running the offense more. Isn't this the 12th game Rose has missed this season? It's not like the other guys never play. I think they are plenty used to them running the offense. I do think they may have been a little let down by the news and mentally weren't all there.

2015 Non-White Sox Spring Training Catch All

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 07:46 PM) A source tells Jon Heyman of CBS Sports that Josh Hamilton relapsed a few months back involving "at least cocaine." Heyman says Hamilton turned himself in and that, if true, he would be put in a drug program as a first-time offender. Without a positive test, it's unclear how MLB could suspend Hamilton for the incident. Reports were that the 33-year-old had a meeting with MLB Wednesday to discuss what happened. More should be known shortly. Source: Jon Heyman on Twitter I feel bad for him he fell off the wagon. I hope he can get back on and live a happy, full, life. But he does get tested 3 times a week. I don't see how anyone should get credit for turning himself in vs. a positive test. -
For a while you would see nothing but goatees. Now it's beards, and some really big ones. I couldn't grow one if I tried. Being blonde, I can't even get a good 5 o'clock shadow. If I could get one like LaRoche, I'd be sporting it in the winter.

Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
Dick Allen replied to justBLAZE's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) IMHO basketball is the sport where players win championships, especially NBA. Not to mention, how can someone compare Hoiberg to Brad Penny. Hoiberg never even coached in the NBA. If you want to make random comparisons, why not Steve Kerr. Hoiberg and Kerr are both white guys who played for the Bulls, so they gotta be the same right? And even then, is Kerr a "good coach" or does he just have a good team. Outside of Popovich, I really just dont see most NBA coaches as being game changers. First off no one compared Hoiberg to Penny. I just said the chances The Bulls would be better with Hoiberg vs Thins were the same as Penny being any good. Secondly, if coaches don't really matter, why force out a guy who hasn't coached a team at full strength for 3 years, yet has a career .653 winning percentage. -
Derrick Rose to have surgery on Torn Right Meniscus
Dick Allen replied to justBLAZE's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) There is definitely different schools of thought on which surgery is best. Ask D-Wade how happy he is about the decision he made. Obviously that was in a different situation, but I just have faith that Rose will do what the doctors think is best rather than make a decision based on his day-to-day pain at his kid's graduations. If he repairs the re-tear isn't he subjected to the injury possibly recurring again? I've also read you can't repair it for a second time... I wish there was more information on the surgery that Bledsoe had that consisted of removing part of the meniscus. Regardless, I think the article you linked to may be referring to Rose's surgery choice from the last time he tore it. This article talks about the Bulls options and the ramifications of each option and certainly doesn't make it seem as if the choice has been made. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/b...0225-story.html If DRose truly cares about not being in pain at his kid's graduation, he should hang 'em up right now. That's the best chance of that not happening. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 25, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) Russ never tore his ACL as far as I can remember. I think he's had 3 meniscus surgeries. DRose should look for a buy one get one free coupon. It's probably not the last time his tears his meniscus.
