It's about that time of the year again...
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 11, 2014 -> 08:30 AM) I also feel like scouting would be a bit more improved today. One thing that stings about Trout was there were a lot of mock drafts that had the Sox taking him. They went, as they usually do, with the college guy.

It's about that time of the year again...
The Cubs did pick right before the Sox 2 years in a row when the Sox had to rebuild in the 80s. They took Mike Harkey, the Sox had to settle for Jack McDowell (This was luck, as I read an article about Al Goldis several years ago, and the Sox really did want Harkey. The next year, they drafted The Ty Griffin. The Sox had to settle for The Boy Wonder, Robin Ventura. This isn't the NBA. You still needs a lot more luck in the MLB draft, even when drafting high, and you can always make your allocation work out.

White Sox v. Oakland A's
Hawk mentioning Kip Wells being impressive his first 7 starts. He must have forgot his 3rd start when he gave up 8 earned in 3 2/3 innings.

White Sox v. Oakland A's
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 08:42 PM) How? You find out that he's overmatched and see if he can make the needed adjustments. If he continues to flail away like this, it crosses another option off the list and forces his hand a bit more in terms of either trading for another bat or signing a FA. Personally, I'd much rather see Mitchell out there than Danks, because we already know exactly what Jordan is capable of doing. Mitchell would be awful, but i do agree, if this stint actually harms Wilkins, he isn't going to be someone you can use anyway.

Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
Good guy Ray who only made this one mistake, spit on his fiancé twice before he knocked her out. http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/115...h-lines-reports

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 01:24 PM) He lost Jeffrey. That's it. He still had Forte, Bennett and an 80% Marshall. Missing Jeffrey didn't cause the moronic interception that lost the game. The O-line replacements were more than adequate. And I won't even start on the Conte nonsense. I agree. People are giving it to Conte and I sure he's a bit embarrassed about that last play, but when he started getting pushed around, Jackson was already in chip shot FG range.

Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) Murder and battery are not equivalent. If Ray Rice murdered his fiance, Im pretty sure they wouldnt have entered him into a domestic violence program So lets make a legitimate comparison. You are out one night with your friends drinking. One of your friends gets annoying and you tell him to stop. He keeps going. Youre drunk and not thinking straight, you knock him out. The police come. Your friend is like "Hey its not really his fault, we were both drunk and acting stupid, 1 time incident." Should you go to jail? You knocked a human out, are you a menace? A bad person? Youre entitled to your opinion. I have no problem if Rice is terminated, suspended, whatever. I think its sad that most people actually dont care about the victim and care more about patting themselves on the back about how much they stand against domestic violence, but that will never change. And I dont think Ive once supported Ray Rice. Ive merely challenged people to look at the situation rationally instead of like a lynch mob. You can always take your time to review/investigate and then make an informed decision to execute. You just cant execute and take it back. So he knocked her unconscious, she hit her head on the way down and "oh it was a one time mistake". However, if that same fall resulted in a head injury that caused her death, HIS action is totally different in your mind. And if you knock your friend out in public, yes you should be locked up. What "good person" knocks their friends unconscious? Ray Rice is scum. He ultimately got what he at minimum deserved. I think most people do care about the victim. They are very worried she is in a dangerous place. The people not worried about the victim are the ones saying, well she still married him. That is not what a woman who is thinking clearly would have done. I really doubt we have seen the last of Ray Rice and police.

9/9 vs Oakland A's
There was a Pirates scout at the game tonight. I really don't know why, it could be for Oakland, but maybe they are looking at acquiring Sox players. I hope he wasn't looking at Semien tonight.White Sox batters averages in the 9th tonight: .178 .188 .056 Dunn could have mowed them down.

Line-up protection....here comes the expected article, replacing Dunn
QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 04:46 PM) I have seen a few people (namely the BFFs SS2K and Dick Allen) refer to what Hahn said the other day. Where did he speak and can I find it online? I get mine from chicagotribune .com . Right before game time, they usually have fresh videos with Robin maybe a player and occassionally Hahn.

9/9 vs Oakland A's
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 08:41 PM) How in God's name do you make 4 errors in half a game? Not even Jackie Robinson West did that...they were better coached and exemplified better fundamentals IMO. OK

9/9 vs Oakland A's
I am at the game sitting right behind Ozney and Oney. They are checking the Twins scores hoping for a last place White Sox finish and I don't think it is for the draft picks.

Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) Worse in the sense that he might have gone to jail for a night, but there's no way in hell he's losing his career. These guys punch each other in games with no fines or suspensions. You really don't get away with knocking someone out in public. Especially when there is video of the entire thing, and your victim is willing to press charges. Rice would have been looking at several years in prison. Probably wouldn't have got it, but he would have received some time, and it would have cost him a lot of money.

Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) Did he commit a crime? Well it depends on how you view the American justice system. I view it as simply, you are innocent until proven guilty. Since he was never found guilty, I have to say he is innocent. Doesnt mean he is a good person, or that what he did is right. It just means that a prosecutor and judge (who had more information than I do) believed that the best route was to get a deal where Rice would have to work on his behavior, instead of trying to take this to trial and putting him in jail. Was that a good decision? I dont know, but its no different than the NFL's original decision. Once its done, its done. To me its akin double jeopardy, which is something you either believe in or not. He certainly committed a crime. Whether he gets convicted of said crime is another story, but I think he would have a hard time getting out of this one. But if I am a good person and for some reason my neighbor cranking Boy George at 1 in the morning bothers me so I go over and stab him to death, instead of putting me in jail, I should go to some classes to work on my behavior? If not, what is the cutoff? To me if this was a one time isolated incident, I would have figured, he would have come to his senses after he knocked her out, but yet he dragged her by her hair out of the elevator. If he is capable of doing that, why wouldn't he be capable of doing it again to anyone and why shouldn't he be considered a menace?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 02:58 PM) Just making s*** up here. There's no evidence of that, at all. Also, I'd like the record to show that we're treating women differently here, even though we're not supposed to. Equality, right? If Rice had hit another guy in the elevator this is a non-story. If Rice had hit another guy, he certainly would have gone to jail, probably would have been sued, and perhaps unavailable to the Ravens this year anyway. I do agree, the outrage wouldn't have been the same, but Rice may have ultimately wound up worse than he is now. But read about abuse. This stuff is not made up. There is a pattern that develops, and Rice seems well into that pattern.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 02:56 PM) Not really that ironic. Most people dont get charged with crimes for 1 single incident, especially if the victim doesnt really want the charges pressed. He had to enter a plea deal, which is what would be the likely outcome for most people given the same circumstances. And I think the point is, its not right to hit another human, but before we put them in jail and throw away the key we should really make sure they are a BAD person, not just someone who was in an unfortunate position and made a terrible mistake. I was once hit head on by a driver with no insurance, who totaled my car. I went to his court appearance. They said they were going to drop the charges because he had no prior record. I asked them how anyone could possibly get a prior record if that was the policy. They just looked at me. As for domestic abuse, I mentioned earlier I have a friend whose daughter was a victim. She went back with him. At his hearing she said she didn't remember him hitting her, so everything got dropped, like it never happened. Rice is a bad person. He not only punched her, he knocked her out, and then, apparently not realizing his mistake, dragged her around by the hair. Did he commit a crime or not? I don't care if people like him.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) I don't buy this at all. About 5 years ago I decked a guy in a bar who was being a dick and messing with friends of mine. I was drunk, I got pissed off, and I acted, unfortunately in that way. Before that, I had never hit another person in my life. I'm one of the least confrontational people you'll ever meet. I snapped. Rice, while drunk, could have just snapped too. Could have, but more likely there has been previous incidents. Maybe not as bad as this, but going after a guy in a bar is far different than going after a woman, not to mention one you supposedly love and are about to marry.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 02:41 PM) Exactly my point. Either you believe in protecting rights or you dont. I dont just get to say "Well I really hate X so they dont deserve a trial, they should just be executed." You may not believe it, but the time where we need to be most vigilant about protecting our beliefs, is when it is the most heinous of criminals. I don't know why you need a trial to determine what happened. Everyone knows in our system, whether you are guilty or not is largely determined by what kind of representation you have. I saw a video of Ray Rice punching his fiance in the face and knocking her out. I also saw another video of him dragging her out of the same elevator by her hair. Call me crazy or unAmerican, or whatever, if I was on a jury, the video trumps whatever BS his lawyers could possibly come up with. He's as guilty as can be, and really should be spending time in prison.

Ray Rice Cut and Suspended Indefinitely
QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 02:18 PM) They were not married yet. That is the whole point I am making. But I certainly concede he may have somehow convinced her to marry him despite continuing trauma. And if that is the case, then she's not going to tell the truth, whether he is in the room or not. That's all I am trying to get across. I don't think it really mattered whether he was in the room or not either. I'm sure they had their story straight before the meeting. No clear thinking woman is going to marry a guy who did that to her one month later. Again, everyone show their wives the video and ask them if they would have married you one month later if that was a one time unfortunate mistake. There is obviously something up, and to think this was the first time he whacked her is just like thinking when guys get busted for steroids, it was a one time thing. There is a chance it was, but we all know it's pretty slim. I don't know why some feel it is their duty to try to acquit Ray Rice. It's pretty apparent a heinus crime was committed. 2 games was ridiculous, there was outrage about that. Sure, it's funny this comes out and the NFL supposedly never saw it before. Sure it seems weird the punishment has changed. But regardless, at least now the NFL punishment is appropriate.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) You have no evidence of what happened or why she said that. The definition of abuser doesnt matter, what matters is the fact that people seem to always believe that they know best for everyone else. Last I checked Rice and Turner were adults. At this point Rice does not seem to be a current threat to her life. If she wants to forgive him for what he did, thats her choice. Just like if someone forgives a spouse for cheating, etc. Their life, not mine. (edit) Does anyone have a shred of evidence of prior abuse by Rice? Cause in my experience usually there are more signs than just 1 sudden outburst in public. I wonder if she were your sister or daughter or friend if you would feel the same way.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 9, 2014 -> 09:58 AM) This is not a case of a married couple headed for divorce at the time of the interview/hearing...this is not the case of a couple on the outs...this is a couple that was just married...if there is still not enough trust between the two of them for her to accurately recount the events, without fear of retribution, than her testimony is not credible in the first place. Psychological Effects One hallmark of an abusive partner is that he convinces the woman she is worthless or undesirable and that no one else would ever want her. The abuser often convinces the woman that the abuse is her fault, claiming that her behavior caused the abuser to react violently. Many abused women also feel ashamed of their situation. They fear the social stigma of the “battered wife” image and try to maintain a façade of normalcy, even if this means staying with the abuser.
