  1. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 07:47 PM) Beckham is getting on base a lot it seems like The key will be when he goes bad, and everyone does, is if he can limit the damage. When he has gone bad the last few seasons, he has stayed bad a long time.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 07:56 PM) Yeah, when I said it was empty, that was before I saw the packed outfield!! The outfield should be packed for the rest of the month. PatioParty groupons for $40.
  3. I've heard if Shipley is on the board, he won't get past the Sox.
  4. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 06:54 PM) I walked in late. Are people trying to downplay Bryant because it's the Cubs pick? No its just Marty. It turns out while he wants to trade every White Sox worth something for prospects, he doesn't like prospects either.
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 06:47 PM) If he's the best college bat available this really is a weak draft class. Mayo seems to think there's a good chance he moves to RF. He led the nation in homers, runs, walks and slugging pct. he sucks.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 06:39 PM) Can Gammons do an interview without mentioning the Red Sox? No.
  7. What will be the approximate difference in Appel's bonus between this year and what he would have received last? I wonder if it was worth the risk. He will get more now, but he also is a year further away from arb and free agency if he is any good.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 06:22 PM) Who is at the Sox table? I think Hawk said the Big Hurt is involved.
  9. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 06:34 PM) Harold Reynolds just said he was thinking JP Crawford at #5. He knows absolutely nothing. It's Frazier to me Harold seems like a nice guy, but having him involved in a draft show is like having Paulie making how to steal bases videos.
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 06:29 PM) I wasn't overly impressed by the video I saw of Bryant. I don't think he'll stick at third and a .329 avg at San Diego State isn't all that great. You don't like prospects either? Who would have known?
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 06:15 PM) JIM BOWDEN ‏@JimBowdenESPNxm 1m Astros take Mark Appel...Cubs on the clock and I'm hearing they're taking Jonathan Gray with the 2nd overall pick It makes sense. Kaplan being wrong about the Cubs would be nice as well, although he doesn't bother me as much as he bothers some. He seems like a good guy.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 06:13 PM) The Cubs get to choose between Gray and Bryant. Kaplan said Bryant is their guy.
  13. The ome advantage to taking Gray near the top is with his positive test, his bonus requirement probably goes down a bit and you have more cash to play with.
  14. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) Logically you're right arguing with umps results in nothing being changed 99% of the time so why do managers do it ? Plenty of effective managers do it when they know it changes nothing if only because you have to let an ump know you think the call sucked and you're hurting my team. You hurt my players, my team and I hold you accountable. That does mean something to players as does not going out there when you should. Robin gets on umpires, in fact last season I was at a game sitting in the front row behind the dugout behind first base. A call went against the White Sox. Even with the crowd, I could hear Robin from the dugout really laying into the home plate umpire, using some language you wouldn't associate with him.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 01:04 PM) Omogrosso sent down. Heath and Troncoso called up. Hopefully neither see much time on the mound.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 03:39 AM) I know I said yell at umps but all managers use this to some extend to show players he's got their back. Never said do it all the time nor yell at the players. You're a team of highly paid professionals who are out there to win and supposed to be united in a common goal. An ump who makes a bad call is the enemy. It's not a drastic or unsportsmanlike move to show anyone who interferes with winning not on your team deserves scorn. This in no way that should translate to employees getting yelled at by employers or to win at all costs on any kind of amateur level be it college or little leaguers. I'm sure if you asked the players, they would all say Robin has their back. Ironically, the same probably couldn't be said about Ozzie, a guy who did tangle more with umpires. I do agree players shouldn't be babied, but I think some take Robin's demeanor as meaning he lacks the ability to discipline and/or doesn't care so much, and doesn't really want to manage. I think that is assuming an awful lot, and I believe the assumptions are probably very wrong. The fact is we all baby these players from time to time. We all have come up with excuses about their failures from blaming the weather to saying it is a coach's or managers fault they didn't execute. When Robin gets angry enough to get loud, it probably is very effective, but yelling really doesn't work when it is an act or when it's overdone. Robin being Robin will ultimately work a lot better than Robin being Ditka.
  17. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 12:12 PM) If so, and a smart team takes him in the second and meet his demands (think Nationals, Cardinals, BoSox) they can hit a home run. In a weak draft though, someone may see something in this kid and jump all over him. I don't see him making it out of the first. It depends on his demands. The new rules make it a lot tougher to take guys and pay them way over slot.
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 10:29 AM) That seems very strange that they wouldn't use the same balls. I agree, but it's true.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 09:59 AM) Callis' final mock has the Sox at Alex Gonzalez. I think that if he's available, he'll absolutely be the Sox pick. Personally, I'd like Renfore, Stanek, or Smith if any of those three drop. The preview says Gonzalez's stock is rising because of the development of his slider. They use different balls in college. Thicker and higher seams. Sliders tend to flatten out a little bit when college pitchers turn pro. If his fastball has a lot of movement, that's a good thing, and there is always the possiblity his slider will still be effective with the different ball, but it is worth noting college baseballs and sliders is kind of like projecting hitters with aluminum bats.
  20. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 03:24 PM) I think that the main thing it shows is that our pitchers have been giving leads right back if we do score. And they average around 2 runs a game, if that, during this streak, so when they do score, it's usually not to take the lead.
  21. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) Several seasons ago, when Bonds cheated and broke the home run record, I remember people saying how they couldn't wait for Arod to break it so the record would be clean again. Yeah right. I could not believe that anyone could be so sure that Arod was clean. You can't be sure anyone is clean. Frank Thomas says he didn't take them, and he most likely didn't, but passed tests and saying you are not taking them is hardly proof. Bo Jackson sued and either won or received a settlement after being accused of using PEDs. That doesn't prove anything either. Liberace won 2 lawsuits he initiated when a couple of magazines said he was gay.
  22. He was a great player, and like Bonds, probably would have been an all time great HOFer without PEDs, but if this thing is accurate, he, IMO has zero shot at the HOF.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 10:59 PM) Which pitcher is the career reliever, Santiago or Omogrosso? Omogrosso did well tonight.
  24. Left side I wouldn't be too concerned. I would think it would be pretty hard to do too much damage to that muscle doing what he was doing.
