The Sox/Twins Non-Sweep Aspirational Thread
Dick Allen replied to Joxer_Daly's topic in 2013 Season in Review
What I don't understand is the posters who think losing is the best still complain when they lose. Shouldn't the losing make you happy if that is what you think is best? -
QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 12:37 PM) Hawk off the record " Carlos Gomez would fix everything". Carlos has been doing a pretty good Mike Trout impression this season.

You're Hahn, who are you looking to trade first?
Dick Allen replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
To gain compensation for Crain, you would have to offer him a 1 year deal for over $12 million. That isn't going to happen. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 07:29 PM) Well, whatever we were going to get is quickly disappearing, the window closing a bit. There was at least THE IDEA he could bring us back something...a couple of weeks ago. Not really. His stuff is short. There is no reason to think he ever was destined for long term success. He can help a pitching staff, and was very good for the Sox in stretches, but he never was somone you would get anything more than a marginal prospect. He woth more to the Sox than what they could get back for him, and who knows how much that even is. He has been a master at getting out of jams but that catches up to you eventually.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 07:25 PM) The way this season is going, any idea of trading Axelrod and getting any kind of decent return is being wiped out as well. First Floyd, then Peavy, we might as well have all our assets fizzle to make it the perfect storm of a season. Axelrod would never get you much of a return.
-
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 07:22 PM) Peavy played under Bruce Bochy the Giants manager. They also seem like they could really use a SP. I like their uniforms, don't know if I'd like their prospects though. Hope they have someone good. Dylan Axelrod would be a big improvement for them right now. We can do that. Axe is getting lit up again tonight. He wouldn't fetch much. He is ome guy who is probably worth more to the Sox than what they could ever expect to get back for him.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 05:58 PM) You pretended my statement didn't happen. Are you ok with Santiago going back to the bullpen? You worry about that when the time comes. These things usually work themselves out eventually. I think whoever is traded is going to be based on the return. It would be silly to move anyone just to save money. They need to get talent back. And to whoever thinks Ramirez has to go, who exactly is going to play SS? Not just the rest of this year, but for the next couple of years? The Sox have so little in house, Ramirez has to play all the time, and it's not like starting SS are abundantly available in the trade market. The Sox will be dumping some guys, but I think it will be the guys that weren't coming back in 2014. I think Peavy stays, rios stays, Ramirez stays, Reed stays, Paulie probably stays.

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 15, 2013 -> 08:55 AM) I agree the great plays are nice and great, but I rather have a steady shortstop that makes all the routine plays and few a few awesome than the other way around. The awesome plays happen one in ten. You win with steady heads up players, I know thàt is obvious.. I tend to agree, he is very frustrating, and the dissappearance of his power is baffling to me. I remember when they signed him a scout was posting here and said he was Omar Infante with less power. Now he really is. I just think there are more important things to address than SS, at the moment, and it is also a very hard position to find someone better.
-
Youk back on the DL. He has been hurt and awful. The Sox did play the Youk card perfectly. Gave up nothing to get him, paid him very little, and discarded him when they would have had to pay him to be awful and injured.
-
QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jun 15, 2013 -> 08:48 AM) Not trying to be awesome. Just saying, that the signs were there. Maybe you should have posted your comment in green next time....... Alexei playing with his head up his ass is nothing new, and doesn't take a genius to notice. You have to live with the bad plays because the great ones still occur.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 05:10 PM) Last thing they wanted is fans leaving for the game around 5PM today with the prediction of horrendous storms. Yes. Obvioisly many with tickets wouldn't have come if it was a perfect day because of the Hawks, but they aren't calling it because of that. Make up date crowds tend to be weak as well, and I think the attendance people here really overestimate walk up sales. I think 2500 is the biggest walk up crowd of the past 2 years. Most of the tickets the Sox are going to sell, they have sold.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 04:53 PM) I know there's history, and i dont care, you don't hit the other pitcher, and if you really feel like you have to, you don't go after his recently surgically repaired shoulder. that's just pathetic. If said pitcher is throwing at your guys, he is the best target. What is the difference between what made ZG throw at someone and his hitting Quentin, when many said Quentin was out of line, no one tries to hit you 0-2? Wasn't it 0-2 when Puig got hit? Greinke got what he deserved from Quentin, and he got what he deserved here.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:39 PM) Dunn hit it right to shortstop....and the shortstop was there. What? Vs. lefties they don't shift at least as much.
-
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:33 PM) Rongey prepping his Thornton defense case as we speak Should be interesting.

How come Marty never posts when the Sox are on a winning streak?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:02 PM) I'll ask again, have you seen every single mistake they've made tonight? Our offense and our fundamentals are hopeless. Sometimes, I think the coaching staff is hopeless. We still have the pitching. Just like the Royals, who actually lead the AL in ERA, a lot of good that's done them...since their best hitting prospect is playing in AAA for the Rays. The offense has been better the last week or so. The problem now is every error is magnified on this board. Ther have been too many of them, but it has been better lately, except tonight has been tough. I will say Alexei getting doubled off would have happened to just about everyone because even if you know the SS is playing right behind 2nd, when you see a liner up the middle your first instinct is going to be toward 3rd, and one step that way and you are dead.

Beckham's outs have been hit hard for the most part simce he's been back.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 08:54 PM) The Blue Jays are TERRIBLE, except for Encarnacion and Bautista. Wang is TERRIBLE. There's no reason we would be winning this game if we weren't playing one of the worst teams in baseball. It's not a team that's going to be able to compete with the Tigers, not without Konerko and Peavy. Have you watched the entire game? Have you seen each of the 7 mistakes they've made? It's BAD. And they are winning. They damn near swept the A's, a team your posts leading up to the actual games gave them no chance to win one. I understand you think the Sox suck, and the situation is hopeless. You post it 500 times a day. If it is so horrible, why do you continue to subject yourself to it?
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 08:48 PM) This organization needs a complete reboot. Has simply gotten stale (veterans like Ramirez, Keppinger and DeAza) and old, in the case of Konerko. It's like they've completely forgotten how to play in the past 9 1/2 months. Just watching the Dodgers with the injection of excitement coming from Puig...there needs to be SOMETHING to wake this team up from its stupor. Nevermind the Sox have won 3 in a row and are winning this one.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 05:45 AM) Can't blame Emery. You have a new coach and a guy who has a lot to prove no shows OTA's. No brainer. I don't have any inside knowledge, but it seems he probably was told he was going to be moved. Personally, I wish the Bears had kept him. I think he still can be a good player if he can get healthy.

Ventura has never said he doesn't want the job. In fact, the only thing he said about it was during spring training when he said he liked it more than he thought. His demeanor hasn't changed. It was the same when he was playing. He basically said the other day, he is managing out his comtract, then they will talk about another. The comclusions being made because he turned down an extension are proposterus. How it is ovvious to anyone here that he doesn't want the job, is crazy unless you have talked to him and he told you so. The other thing I don't understand is the Dave Martinez love. The guy has interviewed for several jobs and hasn't been offered one. If standing next to Maddon makes him so skart, how is Ventura so dumb when he has played for Torborg, Lamont, Valentine and Torre?
-
QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 10:34 AM) Check out Edwin's FIP, and then come back and amend your statement. Check out Nate Jones' FIP and then tell me why Ventura shouldn't use him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 09:17 AM) To be fair, Paulo Orlando did turn out to be an incredible baseball player. Rogers actually helps rank players for BA. How he got that Orlando was such a stud was from Dave Wilder. They aren't the only team that works that way with BA. It is always a good idea to take BAs rankings with a huge grain of salt. Wilder was using them to cover up his scam, another team may use them for other reasons like to bolster trade value of a prospect or to even knock a player down a peg or two perhaps for motivation. It would be almost impossible to know every player, and the bust rate is far higher than in other sports. Guys like Keith Law have a cult following, but the reality is he is a failed MLB front office guy.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 01:14 AM) Who cares he is a bad manager who makes bad managing decisions. He doesn't value outs. He tries to setup sacrifices by players who can't, he calls for sacrifices when the players coming up have a low propensity to produce the run from the sacrifice (fly ball or base hit), he trots out guys like Nate Jones who have a high propensity to go ball 1,2,3 in bases loaded situations, he still thinks Matt Thornton must be throwing 97 with a 12.0 K/9, he loves to call for steals ahead of players like Dunn who are true three outcome, negating any value in the steal even if they don't get thrown out. I would prefer him to leave and Rick Hahn to hire someone that fits his bill, someone whose attention to detail and modern metrics is superb. Someone who wants to put in the time to follow an organization and developmental protocol and strategy. Like how Theo hired Sveum or how Cherington hired Farrell. When RV leaves I will cheer. Let's see, Ventura is an idiot for putting what was his only lefty in the bullpen into games or Nate Jones. and Theo is a genius because he hired Sveum, a guy who even Cub personnel questioned his overuse of Marmol. Gotcha. What kind of modern metrics tells Sveum to keep sending Edwin Jackson out every 5 days? And ask people in Toronto what they think of Ferell. There's an excellent chance that if the players remained the same, there is no one some here would like as the White Sox manager.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 08:27 PM) If Reinsdorf had a problem with re-hiring Collins there would be no contract offer. Reinsdorf has no beef with Guillen. KW had just as many detractors in the front office, if not more, than Guillen. As far as the Guillen twitter fiasco goes, yes that was bad, but nothing compared to KW hiring his friend (Wilder) who embezzled money from the organization. Reinsdorf had a big beef with Guillen. A huge beef, as loyal as Reinsdorf is, disloyalty is something he does not understand. Not only was Ozzie disloyal not telling Oney to shut up, the way he left and refusing to manage while under contract gives him no shot of ever managing the White Sox again unless they are sold.
