how would YOU fix the sox attendance woes?
Dick Allen replied to ewokpelts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) Sorry to respond late on this, but... what is this referring to? Why are the Sox suddenly going to get $50M more dollars A YEAR from those networks? And how are the other teams effected? They just extended the network TV contracts 8 years at more than double what they were getting. Every team is going to be bringing in an extra $25 million or more starting in 2014. The total for 8 years for the network contracts is 12,400,000,000. I divided by 8 and by 30 for the yearly figure. They will get 51,666,666.67 a year from these contracts alone. From what I read, they had been getting about $25 million. Salaries will be jumping. -
Bears are in serious trouble today.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 01:42 PM) regardless of the OL, cutler has been terrible protecting the ball. Yes, and he probably could have avoided a couple of sacks. Both have been terrible in the first half. If Cutler is hurt then he needs to be pulled. This is Grossmanesque.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 01:36 PM) Fans booing Bears OL at half bad................Cutler mumbling and shaking his head at the fans WTF Cutler they blow! I saw that. The OL and Cutler deserve the boos. JCINAA.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 09:57 AM) The difference between Sale/Buehrle and Peavy was about -7. Put Sale in the pen and it probably is -5 You are still way above 85 wins. I personally don't necessarily blame Ozzie for Dunn/Rios, although an argument could be made. Supposedly Rios and Ozzie were buddies but I don't know if that was true all along which could explain the getting away with loafing or he suddenly became Ozzie's pal when he had to be separated from KW. Ozzie spouts off that he knew Dunn was going to be bad in spring training but it took him over 100 games to move him down in the line up when he wasn't managing to win but managing to try to make his boss look bad. To not notice or to let it slide because of 2005, would question fanhood to me.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) 2011's "all-in" team wasn't going to win more than 85 games with a top-of-the-rotation of Buehrle/Danks as opposed to Sale/Peavy regardless of how Dunn and Rios played. The difference between Dunn and Rios WAR from 2011 to 2012 was about 10. If in contention they don't dump Jackson, and probably add. Considering they won 79 as it was, you're probably not correct.

They are going to need to get more people to the park, but keep in mind, starting in 2014, their TV money more than doubles from Fox, ESPN and Turner. They will be pulling in over $50 million a year from them. Its not entirely out of the realm of possibility the Sox have a higher payroll than most imagine in coming years. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 04:32 PM) I think Beckman is doing a terrible job but there is zero returning talent on offense. The offense was absolutely abysmal last year and the only two legitimate players from that team are in the NFL. I thought this team could get to 6-6 or 7-6 on the strength of the defense like last year but only a handful of the guys on the offense are legitimate Big 10 players. No excuse for the defense to be this bad. He might indeed be the worst hire of all time, but to base it all on this years' results isn't fair. If his recruiting classes are lame, then Illinois has a huge problem and the AD who actually might be the worst hire in Big Ten history, will be the first one collecting unemployment checks. -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 08:58 PM) So did Brent Morel's Sept of 2011. Beckham can still be a nice bench player. 2 different circumstances. Morel was playing in meaningless games, Beckham was not. Of course I'm a little biased because I think Beckham is still going to be a way above average player. I will say if his numbers don't jump in 2013 he most likely isn't going tto be much better. But right now , at his price point, he's a guy the Sox should stick with. At the very least he hits homers and gives you great defense.

What's the deal with the "this chair" crap.

Basically KW is to RH what JR was to KW.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 09:22 AM) leg work, and the basic plan, and most of the ideas for the team. That is a pretty big shift. Of course, as others have pointed out, that was probably already happening in 2012, and will transition further in 2013. Obviously it won't be a an on/off switch. But I have no doubt that by the end of 2013, Hahn will be doing 80% of what KW was doing as of, say, this time last year. I think he will be doing KW's old job this afternoon, the only difference being while KW had to take things to JR, RH will be taking them to KW.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 09:14 AM) Big things will always be done in committee, sure. But little to medium things, Rick will own, and big things, he will own the idea-generation and getting things served up, for discussion in said committee. That is the job of a GM. JR just said KW will maintain oversight and final approval on major baseball deals. I think the change is more gas in Rick's tank, and Hahn now doing the legwork.
-
It will be interesting to see what they say at the press conference. I don't know where people are getting KW is just being phased out. If the White sox told him to leave they have to pay him for a year anyway. I would imagine most of the decisions are a group effort, so that will probably not change, just Hahn chasing down the deals not KW.

In typical KW fashion, will his big offseason move be A-Rod?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) There aren't 'alternative players' you can get for that money that will be any better and yes, it would shock me if he hit .170 next season. Not only did Dunn get worse due to his own ailments, but he got worse when his protection behind him in the order went downhill in the second half. Sure blame Konerko for Dunn. Check Dunn's numbers for June, July and August. He got hurt August 31st he was hitting .205 with an ,820 Ops on pace to shatter the steikeout record. He finished at .204 with a .800 ops. He is nowhere near worth what he is paid. If the Sox could reinvest that $15 million a year wisely, they would be a better team. -
Trump,should release his college transcripts.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 02:56 PM) Stop comparing the 2012 Adam Dunn and start making more relevant comparisons: Even with the injury, the 2012 Adam Dunn had an OPS that was 231 points higher than the 2011 Adam Dunn. Even with the injury, the 2012 Adam Dunn had an OBP that was only one point below Rios, a little bit better than AJ, and a lot better than Viciedo, Beckham, and Ramirez. I get that Dunn isn't producing like we expect for somebody with his salary, but the reality is that the 2013 Sox are worse without him than with him, unless there is some really dumb GM out there that will make some insane kind of deal. Yes, you can probably unload him and most or maybe even all of his salary, but that isn't going to make the team better in 2013. If you can unload him and spend the money on alternative players. Would it shock anyone If Dunn hit .170 next season? The injury is a great excuse but he wasn't all that great from late May on. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) I can't speak for him, but I am saying that prior to the injury, he had no trouble catching up to fastballs. After that, it was hit and miss (figuratively and literally), based on the injury. He still was having the second worst season of his career pre-injury, and was on apace to fan 240 times. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) 1.) Why does the cussing get old? I still say Loria is a hypocrite for laughing his butt off at the F bombs and loving Oz's personality before all the losing began. 2.) Maybe, but I don't think he's said crazy things in as studio host. 3.) Can you deny Heath Bell loafed in the offseason to get that lousy? 4.) The Miami players failed. Again this is a case of assessing too much blame to a manager. Players play. 5.) I think Loria was pissed he got called out by a guy who was supposed to be afraid of the big, bad owner. 6.) Loria didn't give him a solid team. Bell was a critical piece who was a joke. Lotta bums in that clubhouse, but one stud admittedly in Mark. They don't need Buehrle now in rebuilding. We have pieces to trade. Get him back IMO. Greg, you are being a hypocrite. You posted to get some posts removed but wonder why Ozzie's cussing would get old. Isn't baseball a family sport? I just wonder where he goes from here. I don't think anyone wii offer him multi-years to manage. Roger said something yesterday that if he wanted to manage again he probably would have to coach first, and said if he coached, somehow it would screw up his pension. I also read Fox didn't want him back for the WS this year as his work ethic wasn't the best. If he were to broadcast, whoever hired him would be a wreck because he could cuss at anytime let alone insult all the listeners.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 07:56 AM) He tore his oblique and lost bat speed, imagine that. I don't know about his bat speed per se, but when he originally hurt his oblique he was hitting .205 with an .820 OPS, and was on pace to shatter the single season strikeout record. If anyone wants his contrct, the Sox would be foolish not to oblige. He can have all the bat speed in the world, if you swing and miss, it doesn't matter. -
Since Trump wants to give Obama zero credit for killing OBL, will he be giving credit to the minion he had dig up this piece of dirt? I thought it would be something about his college transcripts. It seems to be what Trump has been hung up on lately. If this is the best he can do, Obama must be squeaky clean.

Ozzie won't manage on a one year contract. considering how the last 2 seasons have gone, why would any team give him more than one year? I really don't think he is too upset about today's announcement, but it will probably keep him from managing again unless he has been humbled enough to work on one year contracts.
