  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) It's even more ridiculous than that Angels protest. Plus, even if MLB granted them the protest, what would happen? They'd have Konerko do a re-do? Bulls***. Clearly not happening. Judgement calls are not protestable. There won't be a protest.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 10:05 PM) Wow, a reliever with a 2nd pitch. Amazing. He's great, gave up the lead without getting an out.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) Greinke strikes out Dirks with 2 on to end the 7th! Greinke to the Angels is really working out for the Sox. The Sox knock him around, but Detroit is baffled.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:17 PM) That might not even put the Dodgers over the luxury tax. They were stripped to the bones by McCourt. If this trade goes through and they don't chop payroll elsewhere, they will have a payroll over $200 million next season.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:13 PM) Agreed, but the Dodgers are basically giving them a second chance to make things right. The Crawford contract looked to be one of the worst in baseball history. I don't think the 2012 free agent class is stellar, but obviously Boston will have a ton of cash to spend. And the Dodgers are going to have a crazy payroll.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) That proposed Boston salary dump again shows how DUMB baseball owners are. All they do are slobber over these players in the offseason and sign them to HUGE contracts, then desperately try to get rid of the salaries during the season. It's insane. Unfortunately the people who have suffered because of these moronic baseball owners are the fans. Prices didn't have to go up, up, up if owners would never have decided to overpay these guys in the first place. They better hope there's not another deep recession or a true depression, cause these teams might finally go broke. I think it just goes to show you how much money some of them have. If this goes through, look at the money the Dodgers will have picked up during the season. It has to be a record.
  7. Boston is going to probably have to send some cash back to LA, but I read a Red Sox fan's take on the whole thing. They let Beltre go so they could trade for Gonzalez. They move Youk to 3rd where he wouldn't hold up for Gonzalez. They then give Youk away and are sending Gonzalez away so someone will take Crawford and Beckett.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) Is Bud Selig really going to allow a salary dump of those dimensions? Amazing how the Dodgers and Rangers have gone from broke/bankrupt to flush with cash in just a couple of years. John Henry is his buddy. I don't see why he wouldn't. Its not as if Boston is bringing the payroll down to 10 million.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:03 PM) Loney, Sands, DeJesus, Webster, De La Rosa Don't the guys on the 40 man have to go through waivers? If so, why wouldn't a couple of the youngsters be claimed?
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:01 PM) Lots of speculation on MLB network that the Bosox are sending Adrian Gonzalez, Jos Beckett, Nick Punto and the injured Carl Crawford to the Dodgers for I don't know who The only thing I wonder is how are a couple of these LA young guys getting through waivers?
  11. QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 07:55 PM) I can't believe that f***ing trade. That's what you call a "blockbuster". Someone had a tweet that said a team finally is getting rid of all of the players instead of the manager.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 12:09 PM) Drink as much as you can, and take out whatever they will let you. Enjoy. Exactly. They will pour you 2 at a time. Take 2 at a time.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 02:24 AM) People, it's obvious Law was wrong about Sale. But he doesn't pick on the White Sox. When was the last time the Sox hit on a first round pick? I didn't even have hair on my nuts last time that happened before Sale. The criticism, mostly, of the Sox drafting pedigree and overall system is justified. There is no doubt in my mind that why what you say about the Sox drafts is true, Law would have at least a slightly more optimistic view of the player the Sox draft if he were drafted by another team. There is no doubt in my mind he has something against the White Sox. He'll occassionally throw a minor compliment their way, very minor, probably in an effort to come across as partial, but I don't think there is any way he's partial when it comes to the White Sox. As to the rankings...........who really cares? I wonder what the same rankings would have looked like in 2001 or 2005 or 2009. I bet the Sox were behind teams like KC.
  14. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 09:13 PM) He hit over half his career HR's to short porch in RF please! A right handed hitter going deep the other way 3 games in a row rarely happens, especially with a guy who doesn't hit 30 a year.
  15. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) 1st time Jeter has ever hit 3 Hr's in 3 games..............He pulled them all............Yankee Stadium I am suprised he never did it before. Yankee Stadium isn't a home run haven for right handed hitters.
  16. Wise has really been hitting well, but eventually reality will enter and he'll be back to a 4th OF performance-wise. De Aza needs to get back soon. Let DWise do his thing once in a while, not leading off everyday.
  17. He's struck everyone out in the Yankee line up tonight except Jeter.
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 08:58 PM) What has happened to Russell Martin's career? He's had a lot of injuries. I think he has a bad back as well. Catching and bad backs don't go together very well.
  19. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 08:43 PM) The jeckle and hyde offense continues to do its thing. Hughes has always baffled the White Sox for some reason.
  20. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 08:31 PM) so $500 is just a huge over exaggeration? Yes. There are some listed on stubhub for that price, and even higher, but no one is going to buy those, and the Sox won't charge that at the box office, but it will cost you close to $100 for a premium seat. A lot of New Yorkers are in town. Compared to Yankee games, $100 in the infield may be a bargain to them.
  21. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 08:28 PM) those of you saying the thin crowd is because of dynamic pricing, can't you get them cheaper by buying sooner? what's the cheapest that these tickets be purchased at? I paid $130 for section 130ish against the Yankees a few years ago on stub hub Last night on stubhub, after 5 pm you could have bought club level tickets for $13 and premium boxes for $23. I was going to go tonight and looked at it at 5. Everything was over $100.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) Does Sale have a prayer at the Cy Young award? There's still a quarter of the season to go. He still has a shot.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 08:23 PM) So much for that That was quick.
  24. At the moment Gordon Beckham has a higher OBP and slugging PCT than Alexei.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 07:45 PM) On the Score today, they were talking about a Chris Rongey tweet that said the premium tickets were the ones that sold well yesterday and it was the regular priced tickets that didn't sell. Not sure if that makes sense. The premium lower box and premium club are pretty much sold out by season ticketholders. The premium upper deck box as well, so Rongey is right, but he's right every game.
