  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 17, 2012 -> 10:54 PM) Actually the story is now being reported by more media outlets. Link. You can get a passport in a couple of days if needed. It really makes no sense.
  2. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 17, 2012 -> 05:03 PM) The guys on MLB Network said he didn't have his passport, but he's Canadian, I dont get it. I don't think they were being serious.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 17, 2012 -> 12:34 PM) You could put a dress on a pig, but it is still a pig. This is what Dunn does, always has been, always will be. he isnt going to magically start hitting in the .260s and driving the ball the other way because he wants to. He hit in the .260s at Washington, and didn't always strike out at a 240 time a season clip.
  4. Dunn now has the same amount of official ABs as last year. 9 more plate appearances He has 20 more hits. 21 more extra base hits. 23 more homers. 9 more walks and 7 less strike outs. The more contact he makes, the more homers he will hit. Not less. Imagine what his numbers would look like if he was at the 140 strikeout mark now.
  5. You have to be careful when calling up guys when you are in a race for the playoffs. For one thing, if they really were all that good, they probably would already be on the team, so they probably won't play much. The other thing is, you don't want to crowd the clubhouse too much and make it uncomfortable for everyone. The Sox will obviously call up a few guys, but I would be shocked if its more than 4 or 5 and that number is probably high.
  6. The key for the Sox IMO is going to be the head to head with Detroit. Getting swept is not an option. If they would have won 1 out of 3 in Detroit the last time, they would be 4.5 up right now.
  7. I wonder if its Thornton. When he left the game the other night, while he was coming out anyway, Hawk said AJ wanted Robin to come out before he actually came out to remove him. I wonder if he had something wrong with him.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 06:50 PM) Two days ago, he was "worthless" to posters here. Since, he's had 2 HR's and 5 RBI's. I don't care if he goes 0 for his next 10. Those 2 HR and 5 RBI proves he's not "worthless," especially compared to Danks, who hit 1 HR in numerous AB's. He's played a huge role in 2 wins. Paulie comes back tomorrow so its probably back to riding pine for Wise, but he's had a series in Toronto Mike Trout would be proud to have.
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:20 PM) Why was Septimo getting important innings over this guy? Supposedly, Cooper really loves Septimo, Veal was pretty impressive his first stint and looks good again tonight.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:16 PM) That's fine. And that's my point. What percentage of those have come in the last 4 years? It's just not as big as it once was. The pitching today is the best it's ever been. These arms being produced every year just baffles me. Velocity is way up. Seems like everybody has a + breaking ball to go with that velocity. Babe Ruth would be John Kruk in today's game. There has been some stud pitchers coming up the last few years, but some guys far from studs have thrown perfect games. I think some of it has to do with how the offensive approach has changed. There are a ton more strikeouts in today's game which lessens the chance of a cheap hit.
  11. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:12 PM) Ah yes now I remember why i dont follow game threads anymore.... Just picked up Tank last night in my fantasy league, he's back! Tank has Frank Thomas power. He'll obviously never be the overall hitter Frank was, and will never walk as much as him,but I think he can put up very similar power numbers.
  12. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:05 PM) So, AJP is on like a 16 game hit streak or something right? God, what a stud. I've been one of AJ's biggest fans, but I would never have thought he'd have this kind of season in him at this stage of his career. I thought he might do this back in 2007 or 2008, but it didn't happen.
  13. This is what Dunn does. He goes down to .203 or .204 doing nothing, and then gets it back up to .215 to .218 with damage.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 07:59 PM) He's not a pitcher. Hitters have adjustments as well. He's not a very good hitter to begin with. Having him face guys he hasn't faced isn't going to make him better.
  15. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 07:57 PM) These Blue Jays fans are the most annoying fans in the MLB. The microphone has been picking up these loudmouth hecklers all series long. Go to USCF. The hecklers are a lot worse than what I'm hearing. I always am fascinated by the guys who are heckling someone from 200 feet away with 25k on hand and when the guy swings and misses or hits it weakly, they truly believe they are the reason.
  16. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 07:52 PM) Ill pass on Omar......Now if he wants to come backk to coach after his playing days I would be all over that. The only person out there thats even worth a look would be Fontenot. If the Sox got Omar, they could replace Olmedo with Conor Jackson and the bench would be much better. I wouldn't want Fontenot. He hasn't played in the AL.
  17. Its OK. DWise still has at least one more AB this game, but Gavin contiues to dissappoint.
  18. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 07:49 PM) Not really any other answers though. Big K for GAVIN! Probably not. I'd actually like KW to try to get Omar back. At least you know the defense will be solid.
  19. Lopez sucks. I give it 10 ABs before the general consensus is the same as it is for Hudson.
  20. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 12:32 PM) NO manager should give a s*** what fans think. He should give a s*** if the team isn't playing well and recognize that sometimes changes need to be made, as he's done already this season. I still say the only way he's gonna change the line-up onces Paulie's back is if they slip out of first place again. Bobby Knight said if you start doing what the fans want, you wind up sitting next to them.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) Exactly my point. Not in the Trib, not in the ST (lol), not in the Herald or Southtown, Not AM 1000 or the Score, or any of the sports media in Chicago but the New York f***ing Times. And even after it got published, no one at all talked about it. No one. Sports media in this town should be embarrassed. Cowley mentioned it in April in his Ozzie will never come back as long as KW is around column as another unneccesary diss of the great Oz. Of course Joe failed to mention the Sox would actually have want him back. Ozzie's in the cellar, the Sox are in first place. Joe's Ozzie columns have come to a screeching halt.
  22. The Reinsdorf quote was from a New York Times story in spring training.
  23. He's a younger version of Joe Torre IMO. If he manages long enough, someday the overwhelming feeling will be Robin has to go and needs to be replaced by someone more like Ozzie. That's the way it almost always goes. RV was a tremendous hire.
  24. DWise the hero. Drives in the tying run and got the guy to 3rd so he could score on the errant pick off attempt of DWise.
  25. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 06:10 PM) Goodbye Huddy? Probably not, but good bye Olmedo certainly I think it would be Hudson. Olmedo can play SS. But I also think it will be in September making it a moot point.
