8/26 Mariners at White Sox
QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 06:20 PM) I don't think I've seen a single episode of the Batter's Box that was White Sox related. I've only ever seen Cubs ones. Do White Sox ones even exist? I saw one. The players were pretty bad.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 06:05 PM) The "best interests of the game" clause could supercede the official rules for rainouts? That would be an interesting one, especially were the team that was winning in that scenario to turn around and lose...lose their spot in the playoffs, post-season shares and revenue, season ticket renewals, etc. Absolutely not. Besides, in 'the best interests of baseball" changing rules after the fact kind of ruins the point.

Its rained harder during most of the game than it did during the original 2 hour delay.

While I agree this trade looks insane from a Dodger perspective, as a fan, would you rather see the players get tbe money or the owners pocket it?

Harrelson's rant front page ESPN news again...suspension pending?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 12:28 PM) What'd Hawk do in the Tigers series? He's trying to provide information just hit the wrong thread.

Harrelson's rant front page ESPN news again...suspension pending?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 06:28 AM) http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/15/sports/15sandomir.html He still doesn't have the authority to suspend him, and he really doesn't have grounds to suspend him. Punishing people for not lying is silly. Stone said the umpire was bad last night also. Should he go down.? There was ample proof the umpire was awful the first couple of innings. It wasn't Hawk's imagination. If Bud tried to suspend him, I'd like WGN to tell him to go scratch, I don't think there would be anything he could do.

QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 05:53 PM) This could very well cost Colletti his job within a year or so. How he didn't get money back on this is unbelievable. I don't think Colletti had much to do with this deal, although I do agree, if it blows up in their faces, there's a good chance he's the fall guy.

Harrelson's rant front page ESPN news again...suspension pending?
Considering Hawk is an employee of Comcast and WGN, I don't think MLB has the authority to suspend him, and even if they did, suspending someone for calling a spade a spade is a bad precedent. I love Hawk. The one thing he does that bothers me is how he goes on and on about umpires, but I don't think he was out of line at all last night. It was ridiculous and it wasn't just one or two hitters. IMO, the umpire really changed after he threw out AJ and Robin. Maybe he realized Robin being that pissed off is a pretty good sign you're having an awful game.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) My buddy will be behind the Sox dugout with a sign that says "What's up to my Ball State Crew!!" or something close, and then on the reverse side "Rayna, will you marry me?", which is a joke about one of my roommates, Rayna, but he figured it will get him on TV, and then he'll flip the sign. Haha. I've seen that sign before. Was it him?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 04:19 PM) Dodgers gave up some decent pitching talent here also. Yes, but nothing that really excites too much. Face it, you would trade all of those prospects for Adrian Gonzalez alone and not think twice about it. The other guys are just money, and apparently the Dodgers aren't in danger of going broke anytime soon

Gonzales, Kemp, Ethier and Ramirez is a pretty awesome heart of the order. You figure Beckett should be better in the NL, and if Crawford ever comes near the player he was in TB, Magic is moving Showtime to Chevez Ravine. Are they worth the money? Probably not, but they must have a ton to spend so they are spending it. Boston gets a ton of money to play with, but who will they be able to bring in? There's a cap on the amateur guys. The top free agents are guys like Grienke and Hamilton. Are they the type of guys that work in Boston? I understand why they did what they did. If it were my decision to make, I would have done the same thing, but it may be awhile before it seems you watch everyone of their games again between Fox, ESPN and MLB Network.

Bowden/Law/Olney rank Sox 21st in Future Power Ratings
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 10:59 PM) See: Does Soxtalk hate Goldstein too? He also says mean things about the White Sox. Goldstein will at least say something nice when its obvious about the Sox, and if he does project something that is wrong, unlike Law, he will admit it. I understand the Sox farm system has sucked and has sucked for a while, but you know who else sucks? Keith Law sucks. In another chat a Tigers fan asked him about the Tigers taking Trout with the ninth pick. Law called that a "reach". I can say every prospect in the minor leagues sucks and I will be correct a vast majority of the time. What exactly has Keith Law projected in his 6 years at ESPN that is any better than a projection from some guy who watches minor leaguers here? The guy is a tool who, whether you like it or not, holds some sort of grudge against the White Sox. And if you go back and look at who he praises before drafts, if he were actually making decisions on who to draft, the Sox farm system wouldn't be better than it is now.

Bowden/Law/Olney rank Sox 21st in Future Power Ratings
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 10:54 PM) Heh I love the this talking point. Except it really isn't true. And before we go "b-b-b-but the Wells trade!!!" KLaw wasn't even in Toronto when that deal went down. This has been proven. And frankly, all the terrible things Law says about the Sox system, he's been pretty much spot on since he started as ESPN. Oh and he was really high on Beckham too. Further, why would someone who is paid to give their professional opinion, risk their professional reputation on some petty (non-existent) grudge? Mike (NJ) [via mobile] Keith, what are your thoughts on Chris Sale? Klaw (1:25 PM) I ranked him 47th. The White Sox took him 13th. You do the math. Maybe there's a reason Keith Law is at ESPN and not making actual decisions.

8/24 Mariners at White Sox
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 10:34 PM) I just dont think Humber has earned the trust this season to get the benefit of the doubt after he gives up a homer and then a walk. I'm most disappointed in reed and the pitch calling. He was killing the Yankees with the straight change and he tries to blow away Jaso with three straight fastballs. Mind boggling Here's the thing, everyone complaining now would have been complaining had Ventura stuck with Humber and he blew the game, they would have wondered why the closer wasn't used, its a tight playoff race, its obvious Humber didn't have it..........At least they came back and won. Its too bad Humber put the Sox in the situation where it was even a consideration he get lifted.

8/24 Mariners at White Sox
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 10:20 PM) I really don't think he did. Humber needs to grow a nut and get 3 outs. Veal, one pitch double to a .239 hitter. And reed walks two and gives up 5 runs. This one is on the players to me. Robin has had bad nights but I didn't think this was one of them I agree. People complain about slow hooks, they complain about quick hooks. I personally like the quick hook. Humber wasn't good tonight. Veal gave up a hit to the only batter he faced and Reed didn't have it. I don't know how that's on Ventura, but a few people here know how to manage a lot better than he does, and after the fact, if what he does didn't work, they'll let you know their genius.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) It's even more ridiculous than that Angels protest. Plus, even if MLB granted them the protest, what would happen? They'd have Konerko do a re-do? Bulls***. Clearly not happening. Judgement calls are not protestable. There won't be a protest.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) Greinke strikes out Dirks with 2 on to end the 7th! Greinke to the Angels is really working out for the Sox. The Sox knock him around, but Detroit is baffled.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:17 PM) That might not even put the Dodgers over the luxury tax. They were stripped to the bones by McCourt. If this trade goes through and they don't chop payroll elsewhere, they will have a payroll over $200 million next season.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:13 PM) Agreed, but the Dodgers are basically giving them a second chance to make things right. The Crawford contract looked to be one of the worst in baseball history. I don't think the 2012 free agent class is stellar, but obviously Boston will have a ton of cash to spend. And the Dodgers are going to have a crazy payroll.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:10 PM) That proposed Boston salary dump again shows how DUMB baseball owners are. All they do are slobber over these players in the offseason and sign them to HUGE contracts, then desperately try to get rid of the salaries during the season. It's insane. Unfortunately the people who have suffered because of these moronic baseball owners are the fans. Prices didn't have to go up, up, up if owners would never have decided to overpay these guys in the first place. They better hope there's not another deep recession or a true depression, cause these teams might finally go broke. I think it just goes to show you how much money some of them have. If this goes through, look at the money the Dodgers will have picked up during the season. It has to be a record.

Boston is going to probably have to send some cash back to LA, but I read a Red Sox fan's take on the whole thing. They let Beltre go so they could trade for Gonzalez. They move Youk to 3rd where he wouldn't hold up for Gonzalez. They then give Youk away and are sending Gonzalez away so someone will take Crawford and Beckett.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) Is Bud Selig really going to allow a salary dump of those dimensions? Amazing how the Dodgers and Rangers have gone from broke/bankrupt to flush with cash in just a couple of years. John Henry is his buddy. I don't see why he wouldn't. Its not as if Boston is bringing the payroll down to 10 million.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:03 PM) Loney, Sands, DeJesus, Webster, De La Rosa Don't the guys on the 40 man have to go through waivers? If so, why wouldn't a couple of the youngsters be claimed?

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:01 PM) Lots of speculation on MLB network that the Bosox are sending Adrian Gonzalez, Jos Beckett, Nick Punto and the injured Carl Crawford to the Dodgers for I don't know who The only thing I wonder is how are a couple of these LA young guys getting through waivers?
