  1. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:12 PM) Ah yes now I remember why i dont follow game threads anymore.... Just picked up Tank last night in my fantasy league, he's back! Tank has Frank Thomas power. He'll obviously never be the overall hitter Frank was, and will never walk as much as him,but I think he can put up very similar power numbers.
  2. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 08:05 PM) So, AJP is on like a 16 game hit streak or something right? God, what a stud. I've been one of AJ's biggest fans, but I would never have thought he'd have this kind of season in him at this stage of his career. I thought he might do this back in 2007 or 2008, but it didn't happen.
  3. This is what Dunn does. He goes down to .203 or .204 doing nothing, and then gets it back up to .215 to .218 with damage.
  4. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 07:59 PM) He's not a pitcher. Hitters have adjustments as well. He's not a very good hitter to begin with. Having him face guys he hasn't faced isn't going to make him better.
  5. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 07:57 PM) These Blue Jays fans are the most annoying fans in the MLB. The microphone has been picking up these loudmouth hecklers all series long. Go to USCF. The hecklers are a lot worse than what I'm hearing. I always am fascinated by the guys who are heckling someone from 200 feet away with 25k on hand and when the guy swings and misses or hits it weakly, they truly believe they are the reason.
  6. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 07:52 PM) Ill pass on Omar......Now if he wants to come backk to coach after his playing days I would be all over that. The only person out there thats even worth a look would be Fontenot. If the Sox got Omar, they could replace Olmedo with Conor Jackson and the bench would be much better. I wouldn't want Fontenot. He hasn't played in the AL.
  7. Its OK. DWise still has at least one more AB this game, but Gavin contiues to dissappoint.
  8. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 07:49 PM) Not really any other answers though. Big K for GAVIN! Probably not. I'd actually like KW to try to get Omar back. At least you know the defense will be solid.
  9. Lopez sucks. I give it 10 ABs before the general consensus is the same as it is for Hudson.
  10. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 12:32 PM) NO manager should give a s*** what fans think. He should give a s*** if the team isn't playing well and recognize that sometimes changes need to be made, as he's done already this season. I still say the only way he's gonna change the line-up onces Paulie's back is if they slip out of first place again. Bobby Knight said if you start doing what the fans want, you wind up sitting next to them.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) Exactly my point. Not in the Trib, not in the ST (lol), not in the Herald or Southtown, Not AM 1000 or the Score, or any of the sports media in Chicago but the New York f***ing Times. And even after it got published, no one at all talked about it. No one. Sports media in this town should be embarrassed. Cowley mentioned it in April in his Ozzie will never come back as long as KW is around column as another unneccesary diss of the great Oz. Of course Joe failed to mention the Sox would actually have want him back. Ozzie's in the cellar, the Sox are in first place. Joe's Ozzie columns have come to a screeching halt.
  12. The Reinsdorf quote was from a New York Times story in spring training.
  13. He's a younger version of Joe Torre IMO. If he manages long enough, someday the overwhelming feeling will be Robin has to go and needs to be replaced by someone more like Ozzie. That's the way it almost always goes. RV was a tremendous hire.
  14. DWise the hero. Drives in the tying run and got the guy to 3rd so he could score on the errant pick off attempt of DWise.
  15. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 06:10 PM) Goodbye Huddy? Probably not, but good bye Olmedo certainly I think it would be Hudson. Olmedo can play SS. But I also think it will be in September making it a moot point.
  16. Peavy on the mound and a s***load of Manto praise on the broadcast. Double whammy. This has the makings of the Sox struggling to score.
  17. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 04:31 PM) Since some people want so badly to point out numbers: Wise's career mlb OBP in over 1000 plate appearances (again he's not young) is .259. I rest my case. There will be refreshments served in the lobby while the jury deliberates. What are his numbers this year? Isn't that more important than what he did in 2006 or 2009? BTW, Jordan Danks career OBP before the one AB you said had no bearing on your feelings was .260 and his sluggling pct. .271. The verdict is in. You lose.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 03:07 PM) So the reality is, they are pretty identical players offensively, but Danks is a better defender. Looking at the numbers, you are vastly underrating Wise's defense. His career numbers are pretty impressive. Well above average.
  19. Peppers has to have some sort of grounds for a lawsuit. Amazing how little you have to do as a student to be eligible to play.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) I think it's pretty obvious he'll hit below .200 again. But his dingers have been a big plus this year and his RBIs. Its possible, but not obvious. He only needs one more hot streak to almost guarantee it won't happen. Earlier he got it up to .215, went 2 for 27 and it only dropped to .205.
  21. The Rockies signed Jeff Marquez to a minor league contract. I think Adam Dunn has a better chance of hitting .350 than Marquez ever helping the Rockies pitching.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:29 PM) You're only saying that because of The Catch. Absolutely not. To this day, I have never seen the catch Per mlbtraderumors when Wise signed with Toronto in 2010: The Blue Jays have signed outfielder DeWayne Wise to a minor league deal, according to James Hall of MLB.com. Wise, 32, opted out of his deal with the Phillies on Tuesday. In 145 plate appearances for Triple A Lehigh Valley, Wise posted a slash line of .272/.317/.515. In his big league career, which has spanned parts of seven seasons, he has hit .216/.255/.380. Wise is known for his outstanding defense and has a career UZR/150 of 9.2 in the outfield.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) On this team, the smart move is to take the better defender. That is the primary thing we need out of our 4th OF, especially with Dayan Viciedo in LF. Wise is a decent enough defender. Its not like he's Ralph Garr. When rosters expand, defensive replacements will fit in nicely. From mlbtraderumors: The Blue Jays have signed outfielder DeWayne Wise to a minor league deal, according to James Hall of MLB.com. 24. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) Wrong. I would have. It's not about the f***ing homer or his OPS in his 49 ABs. I happen to like his speed, his defense and his potential and prefer him to Dewayne Wise. Why do you have such a problem with that? You wouldn't have had as much company as you do today. Wise's OPS in the major leagues this season is .791 and he's better at stealing bases than Danks. I'll take the mediocre veteran over the mediocre rookie everytime in crunch situations. Sorry you have a problem with that.
  25. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) It's funny that everyone is harping on the homerun. No one except for Greg (bless him) has said that was the reason why Danks should still be on the Sox and that was in another thread. The Sox made a decision to go with a more experienced guy in Wise as their 4th outfielder for the next 20 days. I just happen to think Danks was doing fine in that role and there was no need for Wise in the first place. That said, I hope Wise does a Rennie Stennett in his next game and goes 7 for 7. If he popped out and didn't homer, there wouldn't have been complaining about a guy with a .260 OBP and a .520 OPS which is what he would have had, if not slightly lower, being optioned to AAA for 20 days. Most people who are very upset by this would have most likely thought it would be good for him to get some ABs, come back in September perhaps with a little momentum at the plate. There's someone on another board who basically thinks this move will either keep the Sox out of the playoffs or kill them in the playoffs if Danks isn't on the playoff roster.
